4. Adam Lambert: $5 Million: Adam's debut album, For Your Entertainment was in the top ten charts in several countries. And the success continued when he went on his own worldwide tour, Glam Nation. His second album, Trespassing took the number one spot in the Billboard 200 album chart. Alongside his music, Adam has also appeared in Glee and returned to American Idol as a fill in judge for Keith Urban. (WENN)

Who cares, we all know it's Carrie Underwood, and Kelly Clarkson. They are a few years ahead of Adam, and he is doing extremely well in 5 years. He is living comfortably, with no money worries, and is happy and single.
That is all I need to know. It's not a race to see who can earn the most money. Cannot figure why this is even talked about.

Anonymous said...

Actually from this picture, he looks like he is poor and homeless. Nothing could be further from the truth. He is a rich man, in finances and friends.

The figures are also from last year... most likely quite a bit more for this coming year when the new Forbes Magazine estimated earnings of the most successful American Idol contestants are published..

When you become a celebrity, your private life, including your finances, tend to become public..

It's public knowledge and has been out there in various articles.. No big deal really.

I personally think it's rather nice that others (ie non-fans) will know that Adam is doing well, and it shows the nay sayers out there that Adam is absolutely one of THE most successful Idol contestants..

And that you don't have to "win" to be a winner.....

Earnt?

@Anon 1:18 PM
"earnt" is an alternative form/spelling of "earned", sometimes used in the UK.. This article is from the UK...

Anonymous said...

Actually earnt is not an acceptable written form here in England. I rarely see or hear it. Not sure why it was used in this article.

Kelly and Carrie have several multi platinum albums. Adam has none.

Gabi said...

Carrie is way above the rest because of her numerous endorsement deals. As it's obvious that a musician's financial success is not based on music sold alone, I am extremely happy that Adam tried to diversify and not focus on his next album/new music alone. Since touring with Queen was not even mentioned in this article, I wouldn't be surprised if Adam had already surpassed PP and Kelly in earnings. He's done really well for himself, just like quite a few others who are off the radar for non fans. All good :)

Out of all Idol winners and finalists (1-3) Adam is the only one that can be described as an International SuperStar with great chances to become a true Worldwide Iconic Name. Talking about his epic voice and persona (not sales figures).

All the rest are huge or popular mainly or only in US. Little or no international appeal (not mocking anyone, just pointing out the differences of the music scenes).

Anonymous said...

3:47 pm, maybe you better say in your opinion. You said "Talking about his epic voice and persona (not sales figures).". Because Kelly definitely has international success. I'm sure her fans around the world would disagree with you. Just trying to keep things realistic here.

Anonymous said...

I don't get why some people have to try to lessen the success of other performers to try to elevate Adam's success. It just looks like sour grapes.

Anonymous said...

Was not trying to lessen anybody's success. Just putting things in to perspective. Kelly, Carrie, the WGWG boys have huge audiences in US and those people are most likely never gonna be Adam fans, i.e. mainstream US, country music lovers, casual autotune music lovers etc. So in that respect Adam has not a chance to sell and earn similar amounts as Kelly and Carrie.

However, Adam is more "understood" (entertainmentwise) and wanted outside US and has a lot to gain internationally, from markets that are not into music performed by Kelly, Carrie and the wgwg's...Country music may be big in some English speaking countries outside US (Australia etc), but not much elsewhere. They are all talented people. Was just describing the difference between the music scenes and taste. Due to the huge numbers of c & w music lovers in US Carrie (for instance) does not even need to do international tours... She is so huge in US.

Anonymous said...

6:03 pm, please provide some sort of actual proof to support your comments. What proof is there that Adam is more understood and wanted outside the US? What proof is there that Kelly fans are likely to never be Adam fans? Are you aware Carrie does tour internationally?

Adams song WWFM went double olantinum in the US and was no1 in several countries. iIHY was a minimal hit US but was no. 1 in many countries stayed no. 1 in Singapore for four months other counties. His album FYE went platinum abroad and sold over two million and five million singles trespassing did well abroad as well. Kelley Clarskson has some world wide appeal but not Carrie U. Any figures here are from this year. Adam this year will have under his belt by June 2015 which is the cut off date for Forbes list some major $ will for surpass this year. Most likely he will the second biggest earner under Underwood. kC doing things this year but been off se with the baby so pretty sure Adam will be second biggest next year. Think Adam still has that game endorsement in China that I don't think gets counted. Adam is one of maybe two or three from Idol that are world wide yes KC is one.
Adam has also had tremendous success with one if the biggest iconic bands of rock Queen. That has and will next year expand his popularity and fan base which hopefully will translate in sales no way it will hurt him. People complaining about fans here belittling others for Adam should look at their own self who are belittling Adam to make who they are fans of sound better or just belittle Ad in general to make themselves bigger are make him smaller if they are not fans. You say ugly thing and expect no one to anwser your stuff. Adam most certainly has had platinum abroad the first album and WWFM went double platinum here. Corrections figures above from June 2013 to June 2014 Forbes. That was before Queen concert started after 55 Queen concerts you will see a much higher figure next years Forbes most likely he will be second place. KC doing things now but been home some with baby.
It is kind of crazy to compare Ad who is doing very well however to the very first winner of Idol who been aroun close to 14 years and Underwood four five years longer. Adam does heve works wide audience and after the concerts in 2015 probably a lot more.
Can't wait until after the Queen concerts for new album which Adam and Ryan S. has described as the strongest of his career. Sue

Sue, I am an Adam fan and saying people don't need to belittle others doesn't make me less of an Adam fan. I am not promoting any others. I am just saying it is not necessary to put others down to raise Adam up.

I am not 6.03 but Adam has performed and won quite a few big awards in Asia and other countries. Performed China Idol, Japanese music Awards, Chines Idol. The Voice and X Factor Australia and now the UK X factor and the Chinese music awards. Also has won awards in many other countries. He flew to China just last year to pick up award for favorite entertainer something like that. He won several awards in Asia and in many countries. He done two sonic festivals that have only the best of the very best perform there. He will be going to Europe touring with Queen next year and has toured many, many countries with FYE album and also did some abroad touring with X Factor. This is just a small sample of what he done abroad. He also just won for best band of the year for Queen and Adam. This Ward show was in Europe for years but now in the US. Just a few samples of his world appeal not that any of us owe any explanation to any one. Anyone that does not know how many, many countries been in last few years entertaining knows very little about Adam Lambert. He been a world star from the start. Adam touring in Europe next year will not broaden his appeal world wide and help his album. No Adam fan need prove anything because if you are a regular fan you would know all this. Just a sample of all he done abroad. Catch X Factor abroad this Sunday he will be dazzling them this week end.

I predict that the newest updated figures on Idol alum earnings will be very favorable for Adam. He has toured internationally with and without Queen. His Queen tours alone have undoubtedly made him a lot of money. Unlike many singers, Adam is harder to categorize. He isn't as easily embraced in the U.S. like the more traditional artists. But the international fans adore him, and that sets him apart. The CW juggernaut that dominates the U.S. is mind-boggling. If an artist can jump on that train, it can be a golden tide. Adam is NOT going to be traveling that route.

I sometimes think of Adam as the filet mignon on a menu that also includes hamburgers. Lots more people may order the hamburgers, but the filet is for the customers with the most discriminating taste. :)))

Anonymous said...

Correction that was also did some touring abroad with Trespassing album not X Factor. 7.45 above.

Anonymous said...

That was also touring with Queen in Europe next year Will broaden is appeal I put not. 7.45 is also Sue. Sure you know! That correction was for 7.45. Good night to all.

I don't understand this Adam is loved abroad more than in the US talk. He is also greatly loved in the US. I don't know how you can determine which is greater. There is no real measurement for that.

Adam has sold more records in the US than abroad, been on the American show Glee, he won an award from the City of LA, an award from GLADD, he has been on American Idol every season since he competed, this year he is a fill in judge. I could go on and on but what is the point?

Additionally, unless you are following other big Idols I don't know how you say Adam is bigger abroad. And why care that Adam is bigger abroad than Phil Philips? And maybe Kelly or Carrie is bigger in Australia or Canada.

Even if there was a concrete way to measure all this it seems like a stupid thing to me. Why can't we just be happy Adam is doing well and stop trying to make him "better" than any other performer?

Anonymous said...

DRG, I like the hamburger and filet mignon analogy. Very fitting, I'd say. And I'm not the least bit biased. ;)

Anon 9:31, it's Adam himself that makes him better than any other performer. ;))))))

Reasonable and articulate discussion is impossible here.

Anonymous said...

11:18 oh I am sure you will be back tho.

Someone coming on here and saying flat out lies about Adams career is not reasonable conversation at all. He had no platinum records at all BS. Like was pointed out he has had a double platinum with WWFM and FYI went platinum in several places abroad several countries. He had no 1 songs abroad and lots of too tens. Sorry your going to have to start counting this world wide stars accomplishments world wide. Your just looking at The US Adam world wide and that's rare for Idol and it very important for an artist to be that. But WWFM was double platinum US world wide first album over five million singles. Second album had hits abroad as well.
If some if you want articulate conversations stop spewing nonsense about Adams career. Also stop comparing him to singers who been out years longer than him. I suspect you seen very little of what coming in the years to come for Adam. Next year Adams earning will be substantially bigger I believe none if his Queen earnings were in there.
Adam in 2014 and 2015 will most likely be some of his best paying years. So excited for X Factor this week end. Unfortunately with that exciting event the degrading people will come. Won't hurt at all because his supporter far out way those people. Next year is going to be so exciting.

1:02 am, I'm sorry but I'm having trouble reading that.

If you are saying WWFM was double platinum in the US I'd really like to have that link for future use. Thanks.

@7:30
Nobody's been belittling others or putting others down to raise up Adam. Just going through things that explain why Adam cannot and will not be biggest selling Idol in US anytime soon (which imo is sad, cause talentwise and voicewise Adam is much more deserving, but we all know this... and we also know that this 'problem' will not go away quickly...)
And on the other hand things that explain why Adam is already very popular and in demand internationally, unlike most other top Idol contestants. So nobody's putting down anybody's talents, the continents, countries and cultures just differ so much.

@Sue
You truly are an Adam Trouper Extraordinaire, thank you for your posts, all of them, never mind the mistakes, the thought that counts. And you know your Adam stuff! More people in US should know and appreciate Adam's popularity and success internationally and start appreciating him at home, too! Does not take anything away from other Idols!

@Dee R Gee
Simply said: Love your post and the way you think and say things. Wish I had you as a friend in RL! Thank you.

Sue, Adam's name is Adam, not Ad.

Sue is certainly on her soap box again today.

Anonymous said...

Sue is a passionate and loyal fan. Like the rest of us, she probably comes here to find out what's going on with Adam and as a pleasant escape from "real life", so it bothers me to see her nitpicked on. You go girl!

2:58, Thanks, and I wish more of the fans here were my friends in RL, too. I've only met a couple in person. It's so great to feel the vibes with another fan face to face. :)

WWFM sold over 2million copies but I don't think it was only U.S. sales.

Anonymous said...

Kelly, Adam & Carrie are all known internationally & have all sold well internationally.

Why the competition to see which former American Idol has received the most money? It seems very petty. From all reports, Adam is doing well financially. Surely his health, happiness and financial security are what really matter.

Anonymous said...

ADAM IS THE BEST AMERICAN IDOL EVER! NO OTHERS CAN EVER COMPARE! HE HAS WORLD WIDE SUCCESS THAT NONE CAN SURPASS!

Anonymous said...

America is the country where country music does best. It's certainly not the be all and end all of music in Australia, the UK & NZ where pop/rock music is so successful.

Anonymous said...

6:18 AM .... I wouldn't go as far to say he's the most successful Idol worldwide but he's doing well & hopefully with his Queen connection, he'll be doing extremely well when his 3rd album is released. :)

Anonymous said...

Country music is popular not only in the US but also Australia, Ireland and Canada - and increasingly so around the world.

"Has American country music gone global? This summer seemed like a positive indication. Dolly Parton drew a larger crowd at Britain’s Glastonbury Festival this year than Arcade Fire or Metallica, according to BBC News; Taylor Swift swept through the Far East, playing sold-out shows in Singapore, Jakarta and Shanghai; the country musician Keith Urban was greeted by eager fans on a six-city tour of his homeland Australia. And last month, Garth Brooks was set to perform five sold-out shows in Dublin but had to cancel all of them after a battle with the city council over noise and crowd control at Croke Park."

What a tempest in a teapot!

As the g'mother of a young man about Adam's age, my criteria is "Is he making enough to support himself, does he have a job he loves, is he healthy and happy?" If the answer to all of these is yes, then "hooray"......

Hooray for Adam.

Anonymous said...

This time I have to kindly disagree with you @JAK!

I understand the grandma/mother talking, and probably Adam's grandma & mother think the same. However, now we are talking about the VOICE, a talent like Adam's truly comes along so rarely... He deserves and wants more than "making enough to support himself" etc. He is on his way to become iconic and he woul be a lot farther on his path if more people in his home country would have supported him he whole time. It is high time for US to embrace him big time, from the PTB to the regular mainstream music lovers or the owner of the ONE IN A BILLION VOICE will be spending more and more time abroad.... (I'm hopin for good!)

PS. The AMA's 2014 giving the Male Artist of the Year Award to Sam Smith is like a punch on Adam's face....

Anonymous said...

Note to my post above:
In my book Adam has been iconic a long time already! <3<3<3<3<3

JAK said...

Has anyone asked Adam if he wants to be iconic? I've never heard him express the desire. Or the possibility.

There are many people in Adam's home country who can pass completely on Adam and his voice. You cannot make people be fans of Adam....I know, I tried, then I got smart and realized I was being obnoxious. Many of Adam's fans are.

Thousands think Sam Smith was an excellent choice, not me, but good for him, he has captured their hearts. Adam has praised Sam, I doubt Adam feels punched, just happy for Sam.

Adam may never be iconic, I hope that won't disappoint his fans. It doesn't matter to me. If he continues to sing that's enough for me.

Anonymous said...

2:50 pm, is that what Adam wants or what YOU want for Adam?

There is no performer we all have to like and support. That's why there are many different performers - there are many different tastes!

To say Sam Smith was a punch in the face is just juvenile and petty. And I don't even like Sam.

______________________________

JAK, thanks for recognizing you were being obnoxious and stopping. Wish more of Adam's fans were like you.

Anonymous said...

8:42 AM
Your point? Country music may be popular in English-speaking countries but nowhere is it more popular than in America.

Anonymous said...

Well said JAK and 9:10pm.

Anonymous said...

Adam is already iconic. That voice has put him in music history, not only with and because of Queen but according to several honoured members of the music scene and published articles and reviews regarding the best voices of our times. It's there in black and white already.

I'm not forcing anybody to listen to or like Adam (never even tried to do that in RL), we all know what the REAL issues are why Adam's success in US is not on the level it should have been a long time ago already. And those issues are not even openly discussed (not here either) and (for a huge part of US) these issues won't change anytime soon.

I trust Adam to know what he wants. But oh boy has he had to struggle for his current (still rather limited) success compared to many of the current "sudden success" big names with questionable singing and performing talents...

Sometimes it's truly hard to FEEL that this site is an AL fan site - it's almost like you have to apologize for rooting for Adam and Adam only.... How backwards is that?!?!

Have been a music fan all my life, never settled for the luke warm or the flavour of the month or the safe bet or the top 40. Looking back on the long list of my favorites during the decades, ADAM is a perfect fit, the shining precious gem in that continuum...

After a few more hours of waiting--- QUEEN+ADAM LIVE!!!

Anonymous said...

Does Adam want to be iconic?
Maybe someone should tweet that question to him?

Looking back who were/are Adam's favorites and idols in rock and pop music... David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Madonna... His song choices on Idol... Satisfaction, Born to Be Wild, Cryin, Whole Lotta Love... The guy liner, glitter & glam, flamboyant style... Would bet he wanted to be iconic and I hope he still does, cause HIS VOICE IS ICONIC!

Anonymous said...

None of us will live long enough to know if Adam will be considered an iconic singer in 2114. Time will decide.
