From USA Today  12-2-2014

(**World AIDS Day Concert News)

by Brian Mansfield and Carly Mallenbaum

"Don't worry, Bono: Here are 7 other times bands needed subs"

"Even without a band member, the show must go on!"

"It went on last night, when U2 played World AIDS Day without the injured Bono. Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin subbed in for the ailing singer: Even without a band member, the show must go on! It went on last night, when U2 played World AIDS Day without the injured Bono. Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin subbed in for the ailing singer."

"Here are 7 other bands that have employed temporary replacements (which can become permanent) for shows:"

And first up is:

QUEEN with Adam Lambert!!!!!

"Adam Lambert, right, has performed with Queen since 2011. (Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP)"

*Picture above is from the Queen + Adam Lambert concert at the Forum in Los Angeles on 7-3-14

"Several months after Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s 1991 death, the group’s three surviving members held a tribute concert at London’s Wembley Stadium that featured superstars like George Michael, Elton John and Axl Rose performing the group’s songs with the band. From 2005 to 2009, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor toured with Bad Company frontman Paul Rodgers as Queen + Paul Rodgers. Former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert has performed with the group since 2011."

Even Springsteen shouldn't replace Bono. Now I know how Freddie fans feel ;)

Don't be silly, Anon 12:24, it was a huge charity event, it was a combined effort, a show. Big money involved. Springsteen and Martin were helping out, temporary subb ins. Being good sports. Giving people a show, not replacing anything.

Bono's had arm surgery after a biking accident a few weeks ago and has been adviced to fully recover before performing.

I've been a U2 fan from the start. Things happen in RL. Would I expect U2 to pack it in if anything more serious happened to Bono?!? No (the rest of the band would decide that, and I would honour their decisions, it's their career, their business). Depending what happened then, I would either continue to be a fan or move on. Certainly would not spoil it for the rest of the original members or the fandom by complaining or mocking "the new guy"!

4:39 AM, don't be silly, even iconic musicians filling in for a charity event can sound not so great.

@4:30 AM

BRAVO!! Thank you for your most intelligent on point remarks! Lot's of people need to be taken to school on these front men replacement situations, rather they are temporary or permanent; and you just did that fabulously!!!

An old saying that still applies today, is, "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show".

My remarks were in response to
Poster @4:39 AM, not 4:30 which does not exist; sorry about that!

ENOUGH!!!!! I AM SO FED UP OF ALL THESE MAGAZINES REFERRING TO ADAM LAMBERT AS "a former American Idol runner-up". ENOUGH WITH TRAT ALREADY!!! Adam Lambert is a TRUE and RESPECTED ARTIST, SINGER AND SONGWRITER, and this, WORLDWIDE!!!!

NOBODY REFERS TO CARRIE UNDERWOOD AS THE "former American Idol winner". Same must go for Adam Lambert. He deserves to being referred to as "SINGER ADAM LAMBERT, or simply ADAM LAMBERT. EVERYBODY KNOWS ADAM LAMBERT!!!!

As a devoted Adam fan, I can empathize with the Queen fans who simply cannot accept Adam. They don't want Freddie's legacy to be diluted in any way. It hurts them to think someone else just might be as good as Freddie. It's such an emotional thing, a feeling that your own hero's memory is somehow threatened by a new person who is very very talented. It's hard to give that new person any credit when you don't want to like him in the first place. I get it.

It's ironic that there was never such a huge negative outcry when Queen performed with Paul Rodgers. Apparently, Paul was not perceived as a "threat" to Freddie's memory. I guess in an odd way, Adam IS perceived as such a threat simply because he IS that good.

6:38, I agree with you 100%.

6:38 am, calm down. It is meant to give people a reference. Most people aren't reading every publication like fans are. Plus Adam remains thankful to American Idol.

Also, here is an April 2014 title about Carrie.

Carrie Underwood, country music star and former 'American Idol' winner, to play at New York State Fair

Or never mind if you are a ridiculous troll trying to make Glamberts look crazy.
