Was very confused. Then saw hashtags.
For some it is a very brave traumatic thing. But for Adam he had a smooth transition, but later he found out there are haters, and he has to listen to the hate too. Even Christians who biblically believe it is wrong, forget, that it is also biblical to love one another.
I don't think it was a smooth transition for Adam either. He kept it a secret and was afraid how his mom was going to react when she finally found a way to ask him. Adam was very lucky his parents accepted him lovingly . Too many children don't have that.
I think it was quite smooth, he has never said he didn't know how his mom would react. His dad already knew or had a good idea. As did his mother, they had nothing against him being gay, they just accepted it. They already loved him, and this didn't change how they felt about him.
Live and let live
Everybody has to breathe
Who gives you the right to dictate
Who is more or less upright?
Straight or gay...their brain is the same
Er...perhaps just a little wired differently
But that is all right
And does not give anyone the high-handedness
To judge who has more or less human rights
Nor outcast them in broad daylight
Regardless if they are your kind or who you like
Base your judgements on actual circumstance
And not biased sentiment and personal preference
Impartiality and an open mind are key to solving problems
I think there is an over emphasis on LGBT
Why the necessity to be discriminatory
Let them be free like everybody
Anne Marie, as a Christian I must disagree with you saying Christians biblically believe it is wrong to be gay. Not all Christians believe that, including me. That is all I will say as I do not want to get into a theological argument.
Actually I should have said, that it is the life style is what they believe is wrong, not just being gay.
Anne Marie, are you Christian?
Adam's parents are intelligent and they knew early on that Adam was gay(and his classmates too!). His Mom talked to a professional and he said to let Adam make the first move. If his parents had talked to him (in his early teens)I think his high school years would be different.
We know his parents support and love him but I think this is way he supports so many "young gay" causes. He doesn't want them to go thru what he did when he was young. It was that "don't ask, don't tell" era.
Oh Anne Marie. You just ripped a bandage off of a fresh wound for me. I get so frustrated with people of faith saying they "love gays" but condemn their "lifestyle". (Thank you @9:01pm for pointing out that not all Christians think this way.)
Rather than getting on my soapbox, I would like to recommend two wonderful sites that address the all-too-common belief that it is okay to "be" gay, but only if you lead a completely celibate life or marry someone of the opposite sex and pretend to be heterosexual. Please check them out and share with others:

@Anne Marie,
Kindly ask you 'to tone it down' when commenting on gay/LGBT issues. It's obvious you KNOW very little about any of it.
@9:34
Sorry if I offended any one. I will not only tone it down, but will not speak on this subject any more. I know a great deal about the subject, but will not put my comments or thoughts about it any more.
You have your beliefs and I have mine, and mine won't change. Don't insult me by what you think I know, you don't know what I know
Peace.
Thanks Anne Marie . . I don't agree with you but I like your last response . . enough said . . lets move on
Most people who are Americans and believe in God, think they are Christians.
@Anne Marie, sorry I was not out to hurt you. Should have said based on what you have written here re these issues during the time I've read your posts, you don't know much about the realities of gay life style or LGBT community. Not talking about beliefs. Better to learn some facts.
Anne Marie, stop making sweeping statements about what certain groups feel or believe. You do not speak for all members .
Not all Christians think like you. My church fully accepts gay people just the way they are, "lifestyle" and all. We are following what we believe Jesus told us to do.
You don't seem to realize yet how often you are offensive. You have been told you sound like a troll or that you sound like you don't like Adam. You need to think before you type.
I like Anne Marie.
She's firm in her beliefs yet apologizes outright to anyone offended which I believe is not at all her intention.
I sense her humility why I respect her as a person whatever her views are.
Adam was so fortunate to have such a loving family. I remember Adam saying that when he was in school, he thought there was no one like him. That's a big burden to deal with.
nancdruuu2, but Anne Marie says Adam had it so smooth.
