Before we had Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, Troye Sivan, etc, we had the fabulous Adam Lambert, whose courageous ability to instantly announce he was gay to the world, didn’t scare him one bit. In fact, it helped many other people come out more comfortably.
Seeing so much spark in Adam, prompted many people to be comfortable in themselves especially in a time where it was (and still is unfortunately) a music industry taboo to be an artist and be gay.
Slowly but surely, things have changed. But it’s important to remember the artists who have led the path for others. Lambert will always be remembered for his impact even BEFORE the 2010 decade started.
Not only was Adam the first openly gay artist to be signed to a major record label, but was the first openly gay artist to top the album charts (which he proudly did with album, Trespassing that debuted at number ONE the Billboard 200).
His LGBTQ advocacy and social activism should also not be taken for granted. He’s lent his voice to many major projects including the ‘It Gets Better’ campaign and The Trevor Project’s ‘Live Proud Campaign’.

What a beautiful article. It makes me so Proud to be one of ADAM's Glamberts. I'm beaming with pride, joy & LOVE whenever I think of all the things ADAM has accomplished in the six years since he first appeared on AI. I knew he was special then & now the world knows it too. YES!! Go ADAM ... Onward & Upward!! I'll be right here for as long as I live!! Love 'n Light ...

It's almost his destiny that he would be a world figure in LGBT affairs; like he said, all he wanted to do was get into Top 10 AI and merrily sail along making music; get some form of contract to get a more stable income. He had to constantly look within himself for an identity, hardly the stuff of a hero to champion LGBT. Adam's strength lies with his never-say-no to people who invite him or need his help. Yes, a natural kind of hero who is always there when one needs him, not an activist. He looked very composed at the Pre-Grammy function, and the David Bowie Let's Dance performance must have given him much joy like a kind of official send-off to an artist/mentor close to his heart.
Adam is Adam and that's what I love about him
Adam embraces people and they embrace him back. I think his social activism legacy will grow as the years go by. And that voice will continue to awe audiences everywhere.
His ability to be totally himself at all times makes him not only interesting to others but his talent allows him to stand out of the crowd. I'm sure it had not always been easy but he has stood his ground.
How did Adam Lambert "instantly" announce he was gay, to the world? He was on American Idol for a full season and failed to announce anything. When asked about it he refused to give a straight answer. It's nice that he did decide to say something - in a Rolling Stone cover story a few weeks after the Idol season ended. I'm not faulting him for waiting until the voting was over, if that was his choice. I believe it's up to everyone to make their own decisions in matters like this. But why not be accurate in your reporting?
