Did not like the Los Angeles Tribune review at all. If ha wants Adam to be Adam then appreciate were he his right now in his music. Adam has never conformed just to make the pop charts.

I get irritated - I Heart awards. Where is Adam. What's with the industry here in USA. So stupid.

An extract from Los Angeles Times music blog; well-written with fluent diction.

Some contradictory statements that I picked up from the article:

1)'You could feel that pressure to conform — to live up to someone else’s expectations — Saturday at the Orpheum Theatre, where Lambert played the first of two sold-out concerts to end a U.S. tour in support of his latest record, “The Original High.”

'In smart, slick tunes like “Ghost Town” and “Another Lonely Night,” he’s still following rules, of course, adhering firmly to current ideas about tempo and texture.'

2)'But for the first time since his early days on “Idol,” Lambert seems to be singing from his own perspective —'

I feel some contradiction in the above statements 1 and 2. How can Adam try so hard to conform yet sing from his own perspective ? So which is it...conform or innovate.

'What a bummer, then, that his audience at the Orpheum appeared less interested in this refreshed individual than in the cartoon of yore.'

'cartoon of yore' Mmm that ain't Adam at all on Idol which got the world hooked on him.

Also:
'singing, not coincidentally, without much reliance on the vocal acrobatics that came to define him.'

Whoa! vocal acrobatics didn't define him ! Goodness gracious. Those are years honed powerful raw vocals/vibrato which other singers would kill to have.

Finally, about adherence to please listeners...To some extent artists have to do that, pop art is a business as much as it's talent. No point making music that won't sell; how do you think Adam got his mansion (somewhat) on Hollywood Hills. But I know, that is not Adam's first priority though; still one has got to sing songs that appeal to a vast public. Adam once said: there are two aspects to pop music/songs; talent vs business...that in a nutshell is pragmatism.

Okay, got a bit side-tracked...back to that beautiful picture of Adam 'Icon' so absorbed in delivering The Original High songs; blue laser sweeps above him, captures the power and simplicity of the stage moment.

Adam has been receiving accolades through this entire TOH tour.
That critic is obviously not very conversant with Adam's music.
A TRUE music critic could not avoid the fact that Adam is WIDELY considered one of the finest pop/rock male vocalists of the day, if not THE finest -- He would HEAR it! And he could see what a performer Adam is...and how the crowds love him.
I wonder if that critic even attended Adam's concert in person!
A really strange review. Adam is always Adam. He is a shape-shifter, a cameleon -- not confined to any genre, because he is his QWN GENRE -- he can sing anything!

As to the review, unless a singer wants to remain a small niche performer, he has to adapt to the market. I think Adam is trying to be creative and be true to himself while trying to make it in the major music scene. It's not easy to balance it. He's too good and too well-know to wind up performing in bowling alleys and VFW halls. He's way beyond that. He has yet to get a mega-hit song. GT did very well, I know, but it still wasn't a major hit by today's standards. The reviewer seems to see Adam as a "damned if he does, damned if he doesn't" performer. I think he's the same guy who wrote a rather tepid review for a QAL show. He seems like he recognizes Adam's talent, no question. I just has a problem with Adam's "identity," I guess. And BTW, I LOVE Adam's Trespassing/AOBTD combo at the end of the show. He ends the night with a real slang-bang!

The iHeart Awards show is on (rerun) right now ... I TRIED really TRIED to watch but after a Justin B. 'performance' & a Taylor S. 'award' ... I shut it off & put on Murder She Wrote .......... if that's what they call 'music' that they think is award-worthy ... they can have it ... I'll just stick to Ytube, etc. on my computer ... at least I don't have to listen to 'garbage music' there unless "I" want to ... I'm done with award shows ... TYVM!! Back to ADAM's TOH tour vids via Glambert videographers .... Wonderful ... just like being there!! THANX!! for posting them 24/7 ... Light 'n Love ...

about that la-times article: I think we can all chill out a little. It is more than obvious, that the guy doesn't know Adam at all!!! So his opinion really doesn't count. Adam wishes he didn't have to sing "Mad World" anymore? wtf. anybody halfways familiar with the dude knows that he'd ditch the song if he didn't want to do it let alone keep it in his set on his third tour (he toured trespassing in asia). He didn't even play TOH at one of the first concerts of this tour, the title track!
He's imitating Freddie? my ass! That QAL has been so widely praised and Adam has been constantly reassured that he's not a copycat..
