Darren Hayes' comments about Adam Lambert: (Please consider reading the entire article linked above....)
Billboard: What do you think was the most groundbreaking event in pop culture that has helped this shift towards LGBTQ acceptance since 2000?
Darren Hayes: Adam Lambert on American Idol. Hands down. He smashed down the door of the closet. I loved Adam’s image. It was an extension of his sexuality. It was bold and unapologetically theatrical. He expressed himself loudly, dramatically, and did not give a damn whether it was palatable to conservative values. I loved that he wore makeup, nail polish and experimented with his hair. He didn’t have to come out because he was never in. I think his success proved you can be out, proud and successful by beginning your career presenting yourself as authentically as possible.

Some may think that Adam is a minor player in the music scene, but it's becoming more evident that his legacy will be much more than just his great voice. I love seeing Darren publicly recognizing Adam's important role in advancing gay rights. I hope a lot of people see his words and realize how pivotal Adam's time was on Idol. We might not have realized it at the time, but he was opening doors each step of the way.
Quite right, Dee R Gee, Adam has achieved world-wide stature as an unapologetically, even stridently, gay male...and become a role-model for many gays, and a "point of reference" for many straights.
He has already changed many a mind-set and pre-conceived ideas just by being himself. And he will CONTINUE "opening doors each step of the way", as you said.
