Seattle Times Review: Queen and Adam Lambert are the champions of KeyArena

It’s not often artists gets to live their own dream and keep someone else’s alive at the same time, so it was refreshing to see Adam Lambert and Queen attack the opportunity with zeal Saturday night at sold-out KeyArena.
Queen only has two original members left, guitarist Brian May and Roger Taylor, and it was these two pillars of rock history that most of the older crowd was there to see. The band opened with a thundering snippet of “We Will Rock You,” and used a blistering May guitar solo to transition smoothly into “Hammer to Fall,” reassuring the audience early and often that yeah, at 69 years old he’s still got it.
The partnership between Lambert and Queen has been going strong for five years, and the former “American Idol” runner-up’s elastic, laser-beam of a voice is a natural fit to fill the sonic void left by Freddie Mercury. While no one can ever truly replace the legendary, pioneering frontman, Lambert is good enough that it introduces an uncomfortable notion: were Mercury still alive and with the band, he would be 71 and it is unlikely they’d sound as vital as they do in their current form.

Very good review! I love when a reviewer actually judges Adam as HIMSELF and not continually make the Freddy comparison. Reviewers should just sit back and enjoy the incredible talents of Adam on their own merits.
I agree. Great review! So tired of the comparisons to Freddie by some of the die hard Freddie fans.
But, speaking of Freddie, a while ago I ran across this interesting acappella version of Freddie Mercury and David Bowie singing "Under Pressure". Tracked it down again FYI.
Give a listen, IMO there's no better way to "hear" and judge voices than without the supporting music.

My previous post seems to require a comparative acappela version of Adam's voice. I don't have a Queen song, but here's Adam's "Better Than I Know Myself"...which also includes his harmony with himself. FYI....

PRISTINE!
Thx, just listened to Freddie and .David. Any thoughts as to why .Roger didn't sing .david's part when they sang it in concert, like he does with .Adam.
Allysa....you mean when David Bowie wasn't around? Haven't a clue... maybe he did... but more likely he was always needed as backing voice, and to cover the high notes for Freddie....and he couldn't do both.
I've become aware, watching over time, that Roger also sings along with Adam often as well... maybe just to "plump up" the voice in some sections.
