Yes, Justin, your wisdom is spot-on ! "If our community can't accept the rest of the diversity, how can you expect the rest of the world to embrace us."
I'll just add that what Justin said applies to everyone not just the LGBT community; if you keep shooing people away because you do not like them or they don't conform to your thinking...it's a deep-seeded problem; needs a change of mindset. Acceptance of diversity in people has to be ingrained from young. It may be due to insecurity, intimidation, low self-esteem on the part of the perpetrator...to put someone down to get control or fill their own void or for personal recognition/gain.
Some people are indoctrinated from early childhood to learn about bigotry .. unacceptance of those who do not fall in the category of "norm" or appear to be different in other cases .. race .. color .. religion!! "You can't play with that little girl/boy .. he/she isn't our kind" .. or .. why do you like him/her .. they're so dorky/stupid/ugly"!! These are the things that need to be abolished from society once & for all before we can live in true Peace & Harmony!! THIS begins in the home .. what they learn there is what they carry with them to schools, etc. for the rest of their lives!! LOVE is always put on the back burner ... real Love for one another!! Sad but true!!
I was indoctrinated since an early age to be bigoted and racist. Fortunately I had another parent who was the opposite and led by example. We make our own choices in life. I found my own gay son to be the funniest, kindest, smartest of my three children.
Tess and Dark Side... I like your eye-opening comments very much !
Yes, inculcation of the right values and acceptance of people's differences/diversity from the get-go / childhood / teens...is the best and only way to rid a society of labelling others as lesser humans or not normal. Most of all, people holding authority like teachers, principals, police etc. have to be the role models as they are the front-line disciplinarians, in the absence of parents who may be working 9 hours every day. But Parents have the highest responsibility of training / moulding their children's minds in acceptance of other people and their diversities. Gay people are talented, smart, empathetic...I call them yin-yang.
Lam-My ... May I just add that they too are children of the same Creator therefore making us all brothers & sisters before we are even born .. no matter what country .. what family .. we are ALL linked together by that one Undeniable bond no matter what we believe!! And that is Unbreakable!!
Tess... That's quite a knock-out punch you delivered! Interesting! I think every human life however small or big or considered weird, is a portion of God and these portions/souls will reunite with God/Universe, at death. And so, show love, care, understanding as we journey back together.
