Adam Lambert's American Idol (Season 8) Audition "Bohemian Rhapsody" Was 9 Years Ago (1-20-2009) Today!

Amazing to consider that some of us have been fans since day one in 2009, others of us have discovered Adam Lambert along the way in the intervening years since then, but I can say for sure that all of us are so glad we are fans!

A little trip down memory lane: Vids are embedded below

Adam's American Idol Audition (which actually took place in San Francisco the year before the official air date in 2009) is up first in the post below, followed by a recent Facebook post by Adam himself about what the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen means to him. Next up, is the American Idol Season 8 Finale when Adam first performed with the iconic men of Queen ("We Are The Champions"). And lastly, his very recent Queen + Adam Lambert Tour with the "Bohemian Rhapsody" performance in Nottingham, UK on Dec. 5, 2017.

QUESTION: When did YOU first "discover" Adam Lambert? Was it on American Idol, was it during Adam's solo career, or when he was touring with Queen during the various World Tours? Or was it when they did the BBC New Years Eve performance? Share your thoughts in the comments section!

Enjoy!!

Adam Lambert's American Idol Audition (aired January 20, 2009)

Recently Adam posted this on his official Facebook page. He spoke about how much Bohemian Rhapsody means to him..

Adam Lambert: "Bohemian Rhapsody: this song means the world to me. I’m so grateful to have been able to perform it over the past 8 yrs. If not for this song, i do not know if i would be on this path. thanks for writing such a powerful piece of music Freddie. — little known fact: I am actually singing to a track of Freddie playing the Keys live 🎹"

Glitzylady.....what a veritable memory"feast" you have presented us with! Thank you. You have "compressed" nine years of unforgettable steps in Adam's career for us to re-visit....and, yes, marvel again at the rise of our magnetic"STAR".

As one who was "there" from Adam's first audition on American Idol...through each and every video you've shown above...all many times, I have to say I still get goosebumps watching the amazing trajectory of Adam's career, being thrilled by that incomparable VOICE, PRESENCE, and SHOWMANSHIP.

No matter when/where Glamberts first encountered the phenomenom named ADAM LAMBERT, the story I've heard/read the most is that they've become his fan.....from THE FIRST TIME they heard and saw him perform!

Ahhh, memory lane. I love Neil's enthusiastic response to We Are The Champions. He's a good supportive brother.

Yes I was tuned in to see this all season. I loved Adam right from the beginning. What a journey. I wonder if Brian Mays was thinking, we have to get that young man to sing with us. We need him, to keep us up and running. And boy they sure did. Adam sure was amazed to be singing with Queen the first time. If he only new then that he would be up front and center lead singer. A full circle. He is someone special.

Adam came into my soul on January 20 but in 2015. My husband accidentally found the Q+AL BBC New Years Eve concert on YouTube. Knowing that I am a Queen fan, showed me the concert by telling me to see Queen's new vocalist. From the first images I was amazed. I could not believe there could be someone so perfect. Since then I've been looking every day on the internet for news about Adam.I watched concerts, shows, interviews, and everything about Adam. I was crying when I saw that he did not win the American idol. Adam changed my life a lot.He filled a hole out of my soul. Thank God you gave us Adam.

My Adam Lambert fandom story, greatly abbreviated: Some have heard it before, but here it is again. Because, well...Adam!

Saw Adam for the first time during "Michael Jackson Week" on Idol, Top 13. Had heard some good things about him but had not had the opportunity to watch the show until that week, due to real life things that were going on in my life, including being away from the US for a couple of weeks, etc... My hubby & I had participated in a "Fantasy Idol" contest the previous season via his work place.. We actually won that one, much to our surprise, so had to be sure to watch Season 8 to defend our "title". Top 13 week was the cut off for making up our list of who would win what week, etc..who we liked the best and all that, so we got our pads of paper out, and sat down to watch and listen.

When Adam Lambert came out on stage, all fierce & intense and absolutely incredible, we were literally speechless. My jaw dropped to the floor (almost). Even before he finished his song "Black Or White", even before the judges gave their opinions, we were firmly convinced he was THE BEST and would be THE WINNER of Season 8. "That's the winner right there..period". We also voted on a TV show for the first time ever. My husband said "We have to vote!! Adam has to WIN!!"..

Adam was the reason for me signing up for iTunes, for getting my courage up to comment on fan blogs (this one and another one, Adam Lambert Unofficial Official, whose admins I've since come to be very good friends with), for traveling to see him, to support him early on, and then for the past 9 years because I absolutely adore him. And his voice is incredible, as is he. I've made friends from all over the world, some of whom have become very very good friends. I became an admin (helper) here on Adam Lambert 24/7 News, sometime I could not have imagined myself doing 9 years ago.

I've traveled many times for concerts, both of Adam's solo concerts and Queen + Adam Lambert concerts, some as "girl trips" with other fans, here and there, and some trips with my Adam Lambert fan husband as well. I've met Adam, as has my husband.

It's been an unbelievably incredible time and supremely enjoyable in so many ways.. It's actually amazing to think I've "known" Adam for NINE years! I expect to be an Adam Lambert fan for many years to come.. And I look forward to the new music and the next adventures with Adam, wherever they take him (and me...)...

The first season I watched AI was Season 7, the year of the Davids (Cook and Archiletta). My sisters had watched all the previous seasons and I wanted to be part of the conversation. The Davids were fine, but they didn't excite me much.

So, I continued to watch on Season 8. There I was, as innocent as could be, when out walks with tall, dark, punky-haired, knock-out sex bomb named Adam Lambert. My eyes bugged out right away. I listened to his snippet of BoRap, followed by the comments by the judges, including Simon's "You're very theatrical." As the weeks went on, it became obvious that he was THE dominant force of that season. Each week brought more proof that he was the special one. I loved him from "Mama," as the Glambert saying goes. I fell deeper in love every week as his lovely, funny, humble personality emerged. My sisters like him too, but were not over the moon like I was. I just panted and drooled at the TV screen every time he came on.

It was his voice, of course, but each week he showed SUPERIOR CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, RISK-TAKING, HUMOR, SHOWMANSHIP AND SHEER GUTS. After the season was over, some interviewers asked him if he had "broken" AI. He said no. But, in a way, he had. No season since S8 would produce such a dominant talent. Not one.

He has stolen my heart, taught me so many things about the world beyond my previous experience. Opened my eyes to the lives of those not like me. Allowed meto gush and cry and rejoice with others who feel the same way I do. Thank you all here! Adam has been the gift that keeps on giving. The roller coaster ride that never stops thrilling.

I watched AI first season on & off ... after that nothing else really impressed me UNTIL Jan. 20, 2009 when I watched ADAM for the first time!!! Needless to say I was mesmerized .. speechless .. and awe-stricken!! I knew then & there that I was his .. I vowed only to watch as long as he remained a contestant every week!! Well I didn't have to worry ... ADAM was the Star of AI every week & apparently America agreed!! His charisma .. stage presence .. and Mega Talent & Voice left everyone in the rear view mirror just as Paula had predicted!!

Well ... here I am 9 years later still combing the internet for any & all news about him & QAL ... both a Glambert & a Queenbert!! I go to FB .. Twitter .. IG .. Ytube & any & all fan sites of ADAM just to keep up with the latest!! I'm hooked & I don't care!! I Love this young man as though he was a family member!!

Next stop Hollywood ... it's inevitable!! Hope I get to see a movie starring ADAM LAMBERT some day!!

I loved it when Adam had his audition and all of the judges said yes. He went back stage with his yes sighn yelling I’m going home you were so excited skipping down the street yelling I’m off to Holliwood.
You won everyone’s hearts 💕 and you haven’t looked back.

Fan from the get go at Adam's American Idol audition, Glambert for life.

A thought or two more about that fateful audition.....

Simon said that Adam was "theatrical".... but, first, he had no basis for saying that... Adam was not wearing any makeup or nailpolish, and was very relaxed and unaffected. I think Simon said that to stir up some "excitement"/conflict...his role. Besides, AI was a singing contest...being "theatrical" was never a consideration in the first place.

Paula obviously already knew Adam's theatre background, and remarked on it. But from that tiny bit of singing, how could she declare after the audition he was the "BEST they'd seen in every state"? Cara agreed, and said "he'll kill them in Hollywood".

In hindsight, it's evident the panel already knew what they had in Adam. I'm sure the news is passed up from earlier try-outs to pay attention to exceptional prospects. Furthermore, Adam already had a "track record" of extraordinary videos that the panel could check out...and I'm sure they did at some point. That's probably why Randy already said at that audition.. "I believe that it's time for someone like you".

And why do you think the producer picked "A Change Is Gonna Come" for one of Adam's final songs? I'm sure it's because he saw Adam's stirring OTT rendition of that song in a video of his "Zodiac" performance. It could NOT have been a coincidence.

Last, but not least, Paula's overwhelming support and adulation of Adam throughout the entire season...calling him "iconic" among other superlatives....the fact that he had immediately "captured" her on his audition (like so many of us) makes me consider Paula Abdul.....THE FIRST GLAMBERT!
