Absolutely stellar review by Erica Thompson of The Columbus Dispatch of last night's concert at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, August 13, 2019.

UPDATED (8/16/19): Additional review of Columbus show by Ultimate Classic Rock (UCR)

The Columbus Dispatch:
Concert review | Queen: Adam Lambert brings
own magic to Mercury’s legacy

Columbus Dispatch file photo
"Adam Lambert...brings his own vocal interpretation, style, emotion and humor to the music of Queen." (photo caption)
"You might say that singer Adam Lambert’s destiny was foreshadowed in 2009 on season eight of 'American Idol.'  He auditioned by singing Queen’s operatic hit, 'Bohemian Rhapsody.' He joined the British band for a well-received performance of 'We Are the Champions' during the finale.  And in the weeks between, he consistently displayed a star-making vocal range, versatility and charisma."
"But the Columbus show wasn’t a glorified karaoke performance.  Instead of channeling the late, iconic Freddie Mercury — that simply can’t be done — Lambert brought enough of his own vocal interpretation, style, emotion and humor to the frontman’s legacy.  The music, the precious cargo Mercury left behind, will always be here.  Lambert is just the perfect vehicle to deliver it to the audience..."
"Whatever your age, this show is a must-see for Lambert’s soaring vocals alone. I lost count of his magical moments, but his performance of 'Who Wants to Live Forever' and 'The Show Must Go On' are near the top."

Queen and Adam Lambert Deliver
New ‘Rhapsody’ in Concert: Photos

"It's hard to fathom how anyone can still object to Lambert's role in the recent Queen revival. His love and respect for their late original singer Freddie Mercury is obvious, even without the lengthy spoken testimony Lambert offers the audience during every show. His sense of showmanship nods to his predecessor without ever cloning it; his vocal power, range and taste are consistently great."

Wonderful review...love those quotes. And here's one more quote that I think especially applies to Queen and Adam Lambert:

"Pure rock, arena-size shows like this that somehow still feel intimate, they simply don't exist anymore."

I feel that it is largely due to the obvious friendship and closeness between Brian, Roger and Adam....plus Adam's "personal" contact with the audience that conveys that sense of intimacy the reviewer marvels at. There is a warmth and humor in a QAL concert that adds to one's pleasure, IMO.

I took a test drive over to the BB&T Arena in Sunrise, Florida today - it is only 12 miles from my house (my concert is Saturday evening). I got caught in the most frightening torrential rain on the expressway that you could imagine. I thought to myself, "OMG, what if this kind of rain happens Saturday evening when thousands of people are driving to the BB&T Arena. The grounds of the arena are so huge - the parking is all outside and you could easily be over 1/2 mile from the entrance to the arena. I can only hope for the best - the concert has long been sold out. This is our hurricane season in Florida and I cannot believe the tremendous storms with the bent palm trees suffering from the wind. QUEEN will be amazed if they just happen to witness one of these scary electrical storms on the eve of their long awaited concert. I can't wait for Saturday evening - I will write here a condensed review of my experience. Jean Renard

I live 50 miles from New Orleans and will be going to the concert on August 20th. We are having lots of those same storms Jean, very heavy rains, thunder, and lightening. I am also hoping we have dry weather. We have temperatures in the tripple digits every day, which is better than the storms. We will have a/c in the "Smoothie King" dome, (at least I hope it's working)LOL I saw Adam in September of 2010. The theater lost the a/c a half hour before show time. It was so hot in there. New Orleans in September is still hot, hot, hot. I am going with a friend who doesn't know anything about Adam other than liking him on American Idol, and not much more about Queen. She is in for a great surprise.

Have a wonderful time, Lynn, and also, write a little review for us about your concert experience. This is so exciting, isn't it? Jean Renard

I have gone to three QAL shows. At the first concert, the only time I could hear Adam's voice was when he sang the two ballads. The music was so loud and so distorted it was hard to hear the melodies of the songs. I saw on Shark Tank some earphones that get rid of the distortion and lower the sound level but they do not alter the sound. I used them for the second and third concerts and it was so much better. I could hear clearly and it was not too loud. I took one out of my ear for a few seconds during the concert and it was night and day better with the earphones. The earphones are about 3/4" long and there is no cord connecting them.
