FIRE FIGHT AUSTRALIA: Queen + Adam Lambert Performance, February 16, 2020 (UPDATED)

UPDATE (2/16/20): Adam is interviewed backstage before the performance.  Video at bottom of post.

Queen + Adam Lambert were the headliners at Fire Fight Australia: Concert For National Bushfire Relief, which took place at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on February 16, 2020.  The concert also featured, among others, Alice Cooper, kd lang, Michael Buble, and Australia's own 5 Seconds Of Summer.

AND: It was just announced that FOX will be airing the show in the US on Saturday, February 29th at 8:00pm Pacific / 11:00pm Eastern.  That special will be hosted by none other than Australian pop royalty and international superstar, Olivia Newton-John.

There were several videos available on YouTube of Q+AL's performance — here is the best one we found, both in picture and sound quality, from YouTube user Tassie Nelson (thank you!):

Proceeds from the benefit event go directly to the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal to help them support communities affected by the massive bushfires on the long road ahead by providing much-needed funding for locally identified needs throughout the recovery and rebuilding process.

Just watched the whole thing! I've run out of superlatives.

I just watched it too.. and thanks to Broddybounce for posting!

I have seen Queen & Adam Lambert in action more than once, live, but for some reason, sitting at home in the US, watching the performance for Fire Fight Australia, I had tears in my eyes, for more than a few reasons. The terrible fires, watching the 70,000 people in the stadium, singing along, cheering the men of Queen, and of course, the man who I've myself cheered on since 2009. The men and songs of Queen are still timeless and incredible, and Adam just gets better and better. So proud to have been his fan all these many years. Just wow!!!! Something I say each and every time I listen to Queen, to Adam, and to them together. Love them all!

I read somewhere that FOX will be airing the whole concert on Feb. 29. Hope that's correct. I read that kd lang's "Hallelujah" was magnificent. I have always loved her voice. She is on a part with Adam, no question. I would love to see the two of them do a duet.

The wonderment of QAL continues to stun so many people. They are filling huge venues world-wide on a full-schedule, steady basis, not just one-offs here and there. And the music is big and demanding, vocally and instrumentally. It's truly an astonishing phenomenon. And the accolades for Adam all over the world, tweets and messages is amazing, and well deserves. Heard that his own music sales have seen a bump, too, since the Fire show.

This is one amazing year for Adam. Can't wait for a solo show near me!

And it's great to see you here again, glitzy! Missed you!

This was so astonishing. Adam was fabulous the entire band was wonderful.
Loved Adam's speech. Above it does say it will be aired on tv on fox. I am so happy for that. I hope they received great donations and of course the money from the show should certainly help.
The show being aired in America should also help donations. Was it aired on Australian TV? I saw 7 on the video it should have been to help donations if nothing else. QAL were so remarkable. They wanted more who could blame them.

Yes glad to see you again glitzylady.

Since QAL's Asian and now New Zealand and Australian part of the tour, I have been listening/watching the concert streams in the early morning of the hours (in my time zone) and I wasn't going to miss the FireFight Australia event. A Glambert was streaming the whole 10 hours (bless her heart) but I waited until 3:00 in the morning (my time), QAL finally came out an hour later about 4:18 am. I watched in awe the whole performance from the guys to the 70,000-75,000 people! It was magnificent on every level, I was experiencing all kinds of feelings, and this is going to sound strange but when Freddie came out to do his Ay-ohs, I was overwhelmed and felt something in my stomache and almost cried and told myself I miss you too Freddie! Never did feel that way before until last night. Like Freddie was really present at that concert to which he was, his spirit, the same set list as Live Aid! When QAL was done, the people chanted "one more song, one more song, one more song"! They performed under 30 minutes and I read Fox will televise a 1 hour special on Feb. 29. It was 10 hours and Fox plans to only show 1 hour??? I'm afraid they might cut off QAL's time to accommodate the other artists. I desperately was waiting for Olivia Newton John, but I missed her, after QAL Michael Buble came on.

Me again, almost done lol. So I watched a bit of Michael but it was about 5:00 in the morning and I just wanted to see Olivia, but I literally fell asleep and when I woke up the stream had ended. So no Olivia for me. Oh well there's YouTube. In Twitterland there's been many wonderful reviews on QAL's performance, I didn't read all the reviews but one said after QAL were done people were exiting the stadium, not many stayed after that, Michael Buble was on satellite from Melborne, but after QAL's set? The whole place was on fire with QAL and then to come down from this QAL "high", people started leaving. I heard the morning after the event Adam was trending at number 1 in Sydney with people streaming on Spotify Adams old and new music as well as his old and new albums. Adam was trending 4th in Brisbane on ITunes/Spotify! Sorry I'm talking too much, but I'm hyper right now! Hahaha. I can say it's " worth losing my hours of sleep" for QAL! 😴💤💤💤❤️

@Sunflower - just google "Olivia Newton John at Fire Fight Australia" and you can see her performance which was with John Farnham, plus, Brian played guitar for them. Their last number was very touching and very "Native Australian". QUEEN was definitely KING of the night and I felt like the audience did, "One More Song". It is absolutely amazing to witness the incredible popularity of QUEEN and, now, Adam, on the world stage. They are beloved and take us all to a better place with all the difficulties of Planet Earth. Jean Renard

Thank you Jean Renard, I did Google this video. I also checked out KD Lang and sang beautifully Hallelujah! I read the comments to Lang on YouTube and one man posted "her performance was the best 5 minutes of the show", well I beg to differ, was this man not mesmerized by QAL's performance? Another woman claims that when Lang sang it was when the most donations came in from tv viewers, umm I'd like to think Queen/Adam also prompted many donations! Just saying!

Sue Smith said...

Sunflower most likely they are her fans. I would not worry about it. I think people that were not even Adam fans got very interested in him or he would not have been trending like that. New fans were made I'm sure for Adam and Queen as well. I do believe the majority of the people were there to see QAL.
That song has always been a big song. I do not believe for one minute Adam couldn't have brought the house down singing the same song himself.
It was a very good performance but I think Queen won that night. How would any person possibly know about the donations being the most. Maybe if they were working with the donations. But I still doubt it.
Queen donated their fees as I'm sure all of them did but also the staging I'm also sure personal donations. I heard Adam say he donated to the red cross.
They did a fabulous job.

Sunflower said...

Sue you're right about everything you said! Was thinking that it was a 10 hour event and this man only liked 5 minutes of the entire show? Like you said most likely a die hard Lang fan. And that woman also who claim to know that Langs performance brought in the most donations. Yeah, right! I won't worry any more. BUT it was said Queen with Adam was the most anticipated act of the night! Yes Sue QAL were the big winners!

Just thinking about some comments above re K.D. Lang's performance of Hallelujah.. That song is so beautiful, so powerful.. And K. D. Lang is a wonderful vocalist (and person). If a fan of hers said it was their favorite moment of the night, so be it.. It's okay. The real point is that these artists/bands donated their songs, their talents, for this very important cause.. I'm grateful to all of them. Of course I'm kinda partial to Queen + Adam Lambert, but there was some amazing talent up there on the stage that day... Kudos to all.

Sue, the Fire Fight Australia Concert was screened live on Australian TV. There was also a 4 hour special on Saturday night in Australia with the highlights of the Concert and QAL were part of that, of course!
