VIDEO: Queen + Adam Lambert Perform Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" in Dunedin (NZ), February 10, 2020 (UPDATED)

Adam Lambert, Brian May and Roger Taylor were in the mood for some Led Zeppelin at the Queen + Adam Lambert concert in Dunedin, New Zealand on Monday, March 10, 2020 — so Adam brought back the classic track that won him major praise both on American Idol (May 5, 2009) and the subsequent American Idol US Summer Tour:  "Whole Lotta Love."  Epic performance!

UPDATE (2/10/20): One more WLL (2nd vid below) — and much more close-up! — from another fan, marbur11from whom we also posted video from Auckland.  With our appreciation.

A very special thanks to our reader Mi Re La for both finds!

Just listened to this on my earpods — and, at the big glory note, all the hairs on the back of my neck stood up, all the nerves in my spine pulsated and all the synapses in my brain fired!! Adam just gets better and better as the years go by.

As I wrote in the text of the post... Epic Performance!

HOW GREAT IS THAT! Hey threw in WWL! And of course, Adam did his very best to make it the rock orgy it was meant to be. And boy, did he nail it. The man is sex on two legs. I wonder who thought of including it? Hope they keep it in the set list. Audiences love that song!

Nanbert said...

Well, that got the old circulation moving! What a surprise!....and delight! What a thrill for Queen to know that they can GO ANYWHERE with Adam's VOICE....I bet they have a lot of fun with such freedom. And Adam!...he's just a musical freak!...in a nice (sexy) way!

I wonder if they "cleared" this with Led Zeppelin....probably wasn't necessary. Zeppelin should be proud for Queen and Adam Lambert to "promote" their cover, although maybe not so happy to hear QAL do it better!

We need to make up some new adjectives for Adam....the ones available just don't quite cut it!

And yes, broddybounce, Adam DOES keep getting better and better.

Where else might QAL go next? With all that talent, the sky's the limit. Wonder what's in that recent mysterious mention of them "being in the studio".

Sue Smith said...

HOLY BLEEP that was frigging fatastic.
In this century there can be only one
Adam Lambert. Adam's voice is insane and who knew it was possible for it to get better but it has. That performance was magnificent!

Sue Smith said...

This is just a guess for the studio mention. Maybe they are recording something to benefit the Austrailian wildfire or perhaps Adam charity. Guess we will find out eventually.

Zeppelin songs are a guitar player's dream. Just like Queen songs. They are hard-driving, pounding rock. Brian had to feel good playing something different. This song is a real classic and of course Adam sang it on Idol.

Remember his Fantasy Springs performance of WWL? Real down and dirty as God intended.

Angeladam said...

Just WOW !!! remember him singing this back on American Idol all those years ago, though he was good then but obviously his voice has got better and better with age ! Jimmy Page eat your heart out lol !! (He'd actually probably love Adam's version !)

Angeladam said...

Oops !! I mean't Robert Plant of course lol

Review: Queen in Dunedin - 'This is a thrill'
https://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music/gig-reviews/119402748/review-queen-in-dunedin--this-is-a-thrill

"Lambert's showmanship and and pitch perfect vocal delivery more than matched the guitar wizardry Brian May and the primal drumming of Taylor"
It was big, it was bonkers, it was bloody great.

Funny how we Glamberts are so modest with our accolades for Adam for this WHOLE LOTTA LOVE performance. Well, I watched it in the morning before I went to work and really loved it. What a treat! Then, I made the mistake of sharing it with about 10 students at lunchtime (about 19/20/21 years old). Their accolade, "Holy cow, look at those pants - NO SOCKS THERE!" I said to them, "Yes, but what about his voice?" Please forgive me - this was just too funny not to report it to 24/7. Comments can definitely fluctuate due to the age of the audience. Jean Renard

Sue Smith said...

Jean that's ok some of us just didn't say it out loud!

Sue Smith said...

Above, that was some of us probably thought it but just didn't voice it.

broddybounce said...

Jean, I beg your pardon — modest? Did you read my comment above (very first one)...??!?! ;)

Jean Renard said...

@Sue Smith, I bit my tongue and didn't describe my naughties on 24/7. I was afraid I might offend fans on the site (lol). And, @broddybounce, the descriptions of your physical zingers to Adam's performance were actually quite beautiful and poetic and could be lyrics to a QUEEN song or some kind of rock song. They sort of reminded me of the lyrics to "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE" (remember those?). My students, young guys and gals, have no inhibitions - they say it like it is (or isn't) and go for the gusto. That is why Adam can so freely write his lyrics - he is not tied down by inhibitions or worries that he will offend anyone. No matter how said, Adam's performance was so hot that even Brian kept his eyes on his guitar from fear he might get excited. Jean Renard

I keep thinking:

Adam singing with Queen.... move over, Freddie Mercury!
Adam singing "Whole Lotta Love"....move over, Robert Plant!
Adam singing everything else....move over, Michael Jackson, Prince, George Michael and Elvis!

Adam has a heavy burden to bear....there is a sad lack of great male voices these days.... he has a lot of icons to replace.

Fortunately, he has the voice, versatility, looks and personality to do it!

broddybounce said...

Aww, thank you, Jean!

And great observations, Nanbert!

Adam made me drool and melt in 2009 with his WLL performance and I couldn't sleep for nights! In 2020? NO WORDS!💣🌡🔥🔥🔥👅💋👐🤘😍❤💚

Sue Smith said...

The review above was very good I really love Rose's. Nanbert 👌 loved your analyses. MI Re La again thanks for all you do and of course broddy thanks for all you post as well.

Angeladam said...

Jean Renard you made me chuckle, some of us on here think we shouldn't say things we think (age thing !!) me included , but tbh we all think the same ( OMG LOL !!!!)
Mi Re La nice gesture that he face timed Javi,Adam's got a young model called Luke Green with him on the first leg of the tour ( in Japan Tokyo etc ) easily seen on twitter partying with Adam etc , seems really nice , he's a young model from Philadelphia , things move on I think !

Angeladam said...

Nanbert have to agree , I think Adam could front any World class Rock Band !

Sue Smith said...

Sorry for the split word on Mi Re La. I'm not totally back to my normal self yet. Let's face it my normal self not much to brag about.

Mi Re La said...

Angeladam, I didn't know about Luke Green.
He is the one who appears in the footage from the Digital Art Museum at minutes 3.16 ?

Nanbert, I don't think LAMBERT OUTLAW would agree with you about Elvis. She's a huge fan of Elvis.

I wonder how LAMBERT OUTLAW is? I hope she's OK.

Nanbert said...

Rosemary..obviously you're just as concerned about Lambert Outlaw as I am. And you're right, she IS a dedicated Elvis fan.....after all, HE was her "FIRST"! She might be conflicted.

I know it's silly to get attached to a disembodied "commenter".....but I miss her!

Nanbert said...

Angeladam...you're right, Adam could front any world class Rock Band. And from various remarks he has made, he would certainly be interested in Led Zeppelin. But Queen has to be his "dream gig"....where else could he find such a varied catalogue of diverse GENRES to adequately display his extraordinary voice and stage presence?

Roger and Brian deserve a lot of credit for allowing Adam to find his OWN way and GROW into the juggernaught that he is today.

Just thinking....has anyone else noticed how carefully the band watches Adam to coordinate with, and often emphasize, his movements and vocals when he varies from song to song? I find that amazing! They are all so "tuned" to each other! And they're all so joyful!

Angeladam said...

They definitely follow Adam and take their cue from him, but all of them are incredible artists, and when these incredibles come together WOW !!

Angeladam said...

Mi Re La, yes he was there too

Dee R Gee said...

I love the WWL that Adam and QAL just did! Adam nailed it, of course, and the guys were enjoying playing something different.

But my favorite Adam WWL is still the one from Fantasy Springs. So SLLOOOOWWw and gritty and sexy and largely ad-libbed. Adam knows how to work us into a sweat!

The Digital Museum looked so amaizing. Brian was taking pictures of Adam and I imagine lots of wonderful things there.
I know nothing about nothing about the nice looking man Adam had with him. I'm just glad he had a person to share his off time with. I just now saw that video.
That Digital Museum is right up Brian's
alley.
In my humble opinion Adam could front any rock band out there with ease. However Queen is so the perfect fit for Adam. They all love and respect each other and Adam does such an amaizing job. They are all at the top of their game musicians and that definitely includes Adam.

Sue Smith said...

Nanbert I do not see why it is silly to get attached to a commenter. Especially a person like Lambert Outlaw. She truly loved Adam and I was very fond of her as a commenter ect.
I pray she doing ok. This has worried me for a good while. However with all that came up with my family I had not mentioned it. I did mention it a few posts back. I to miss her as well.
