Basis for the movie probably comes from the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar which forms the basis for a New Age belief. It was first forecasted by José Argüelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about December 21, 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation. This is commonly referenced in pop-culture media as the 2012 problem or the end of the world.
If this movie is supposed to be released on "the end of the world date", why is everyone so excited about it? The world's going to end and all the fans of Adam Lambert are going to be in the theater? They probably WOULD rather be watching a crap movie that their gay boy was singing in than to be with thier families when the end comes.
