People are comparing Miley's new video "Can't Be Tamed" to Adam's "For Your Entertainment" video. What do you guys think? Is she trying to copy Adam?

Actually when I first saw it a few days ago, it reminded me of both Adam and Gaga's style.
I think Miley is trying to become the next Gaga or Britney. She will be 18 this year. It's time for her to drop her teen fans.
Everyone gets something from somewhere, very few people are truly original (as our own boy would, and has, said himself)... so I don't have a problem with MC extracting certain themes from other artists (which I DO think she has done here with Lambert and some of the other ladies mentioned on the internet concerning this story), but what is certain eating at me more is that fact that I bet this song will get great radio play right from the get-go, and the "FYE" single didn't. I COMPLETELY get that when "FYE" came out, Lambert was not an established artist, but both Christina A.'s new song and this Miley song are not dissimilar in tone, approach, sonically, etc., and they'll both get instant radio play. I know this is a little off topic, but THIS is what will actually bother me about the potential Cyrus/Lambert comparisons. I know the AMA thing influenced the radio play of the "FYE" song, but honestly, there was more at play than that... and again, Cyrus' song has got a lot of similaries, not just thematically but also, more importantly, sonically, to "FYE" single, and it will get huge radio play, right along w/ Christina's song, while a song that was very in keeping with those sorts of tracks, FYE, was discarded... makes me mad. Visually, in terms of the video, there is absolutely influences from Lambert's "thing" in there... I'm not trying to be a Lambert fan who sees all things Lambert - I really do feel his "thing" that he's been doing for the past year has influenced the music video element of this new release from Cyrus.
Miley. Bieber. The Jonai...when will this torture end. Its inhumane...
My first thought in terms of comparison was Britney Spears, (complete with autotune?? Do you think?) Next it was clear there was GAGA influence in that she was attempting performance art Which GAGA is famous for,(and, in my opinion may actually be overdoing lately- may be time to try something else. I think Adam's video is the same dark flavor, perhaps but I don't think she is copying him so much - Actually - this might help Adam be more accepted by the mainstream world. What do you think. PS AMA's aside, Adam has learned to perform better than just about anyone "live".!!! NO Autotune here!!
wow!!!! THAT IS JUST WRONG!!!! it even has the same beat well alittle but yea i think she is trying to copy him! god get a life hannah montana!!!!
i can't be bothered to watch this stupid little bitch so over hyped she has a LONG time to go until she can act like a women she such a tweenager, god i so dislike her and her family
go away you silly girl.more money than sense!!!
Looks more like Gaga to me.
children try to grow up tooo quick...i laugh when either the cyrus, bieber try and act sexy!!!!
yes i agree when will this torture end with these kids!!
The music (beat) sounds like Adam. The voice sounds like Gaga (a lot).
The video reminds me of Gaga.
@May 6, 2010 3:36 PM - This is "May 6, 2010 2:23 PM" again - I like how you said "Actually - this might help Adam be more accepted by the mainstream world..." That's a great point, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks :). I mean, it sort makes me ill that a product from Miley Cyrus has the potential to help Adam Lambert's music be more accepted - with Lambert's stunning vocal and artistic talent - but that aside, I think it is a valid point and if it help, I guess I can live with that. And in all fairness, I actually do think Cyrus has got vocal chops and unique artistry... I like her phrasing too.
I too thought she was cashing in on things from Adam, Britney, and Gaga. I laughed when she told Ryan Seacrest that she was doing something that other female artists aren't doing. LOL
I think this is a compliment to Adam and Lady Gaga. I see some things that remind me of Adam but more that remind me of Britney. Britney lip syncs and Miley CAN'T sing so.
i totally disagree about miley helping Adam out in the mainstrem world
Most of the World dont need cyrus helping ADAM out he has already made iT and is on his rise to mega stardom...its the conservative americans who are Adam's problems!! not the world please dont include us in your US problems with dealing with ADam because he is Gay
i repeat ADAM IS HAVING A WONDERFUL INTERNATIONAL TOUR AND IS BEING VERY ACCEPTED
WE LOVE ADAM'S FYE SINGLE AND VIDEO....we do not need to childish miley input......enough said........uk fan
LOL Miley is trying way too hard. She should just continue to sing bubblegum baby songs. The same goes for Justin Bieber. they are both so annoying. I don't get why they are so popular.
I don't think it's like Adam's video
But there's nothing new about it either
This was SOOO bad. She tries so hard and she can't. Too much copying.
VERY BAD song and video.
If she were 25 yrs. old - that would be awesome!! Yah, I see the Adam influences and they are spectacular but he was 27 when he made it and it is joyously adult! She is scarey!!
Hmmmmm....more Lady Gaga. I really don't know what she is doing. She took it a little too far with this video. She isn't even legal yet! For goodness sake Miley! Try to be more original!
I hope her daddy Billy Ray wasn't embarassed by this. The lyrics and her costume are so not for a 17 year old. But when you don't have a voice, I guess you have to resort to other means to sell yourself. Yuk
Ok, here is my humble opinion.
Adam's FYE CLASSY and sexy.
Miley's is trying too hard, trashy sexy.
A 17 years old SHOULD not be acting this way. IT"S TOO CHEEP and I hope it will rebound on her hard.
Hated it!
Bad role model.
@May 6, 2010 5:25 PM - I think the issue of "Miley helping Adam out w/ the mainstream thing" - is in the way of precedent setting - 'ya know what I mean. That's more what I was thinking (I'm May 6, 2010 5:07 PM by the way).
'Ya know PRECEDENT as in - "a legal decision or form of proceeding serving as an authoritative rule or pattern in future similar or analogous cases...any act, decision, or case that serves as a guide or justification for subsequent situations..." so like in Top 40 radio, if songs like Rihanna's Rude Boy and Christina A.'s new song and this track by Miley Cyrus continued to be played (& risque Britney stuff too actually) by Top 40 and Pop radio with no problem whatsoever - there will be more of a valid argument to question why, say, for example, Adam Lambert's "Fever" couldn't be released as a single and get fair radio airplay in the future. In the R&B and hiphop community, there have been male artists getting good radio airplay with risque and racy songs forever (and even a Robin Thicke comes to mind with "Sex Therapy") but not so much in the Pop genre, with some exceptions of course with crossovers like Timbaland and Justin's Carry Out track and stuff like that which is racy. Well anyway, blah blah blah, but that's more of the idea that I was thinking of when I spoke about understanding the possibility, the potential, for a track like Cyrus' new one in opening doors for Lambert and his getting certain of his songs played more easily. As for actual talent - there is no comparison... and I agree with other posters who said Lambert's FYE single and video have a certain authentic quality that Cyrus' song and video is sorely lacking!
at first i thought of britney, except the darkness was adamesque. visually there are surely other adam and gaga references. miley is in show biz and this is her prerogative. there is always cross pollination in art. she's playing a new role...happily a very long way from "party in the usa"...i enjoyed the nest, the museum (of natural history nyc?), the bluehairs and the big black glossy wings. all in good fun.
yeah, i don't have my metronome anymore but rhythmically it sounds dangerously close to the shuffle beat on fye. the dancer heap with strips of clothing were adam/gaga-esque. i agree that it would be bizarre for miley's video to pave the way for reconsideration of adam's vocal and visual fye masterpiece video. she must admire him.
dana
Yay for Miley Cyrus!Even if she can't sing at least she's promoting her body(yuck! I have to ask where are her parents in all of this, I know mine would not like it much when I was her age) but I'm so sorry to inform that Gaga is still very much alive and if I was a Cyrus fan I'd rather see the original which translates to Gaga then a wannabe teen girl. The same applies to Adam Lambert's FYE, she had to find someone or something for a theme in her video, it wouldn't abode well if she copied Gaga all the way and/or Adam(she might get sued or forbidden to ever sing, what a shame :-D). Yeah, I agree with Dana, Miley must adore Adam or she wouldn't copycat him, maybe this will bring a lot more exposure for Adam's FYE song and video, the song isn't getting a lot of radio play majorly because he's GAY. Unfortunately not everyone sees Adam like us in here and most people still think they might catch "it" if they hear his song or see his videos or worst that they'll influence other people to choose the same sexual preference, because for them "it" is a choice. Sometimes sucks to live in this century maybe the next one will be more open-minded. :-(

Hey, it's me again, I forgot to say that luckly in Portugal this crappiece of Miley hasn't reach the TV YET but it probably will since she's coming here for Rock in Rio(major music event for millions of people.) She shouldn't get a lot of radio play since this is different from what their teen audiences are usually expecting but since she's still riding on the Hannah Montana fame, you never know...

caviar(Adam) - or - crap(Miley) - I choose talent and the ability to perform. Thanks Adam! I can't wait for the IIHY video!
...I thought Miley Cyrus did'nt like guys with eyeliner!!!!!!.......Did'nt ADAM refer to her as
cute or something a while back when she was on AI? ...and now this! Fine with me, but I really have had enough of Miss Miley and her lack of talent...and I know I'm not the only one! She
cannot sing live at all....she is just a Disney
product.
It is an insult to associate GaGa with this stuff
and don't even mention Adam because that's even
more absured. No talent, vocals, and not an ounce of creativity in sight with Miley Cyrus. It's just another Disney kid let loose and how many more of them can we take!
Miley stated publicly last year after her appearance on AI that she did not like Adam Lambert period. She is trying to leave the Disney persona behind and cross over into an adult artist. I have never liked her voice or anything about her. Had she not been the daughter of a musician, she'd still be looking for a job.
It looks like a combo of GAGA, BEYONCE, ADAM. Actually quite good.
its a trend so she's using it. yeah, reminds me of adam a bit.
Wow, this is certainly a new look for Miley..but how far could she take her teen image, you know?
you know.. funny thing..this video reminds me sort of an old Madonna video....
hea, girl's growing up..can you blame her?
There are certainly similarities. The writhing dancers and the darkness remind me of FYE. And her sequined corset with the amazing peacock feather spread was designed by the Blonds, the same designers who gave Adam the gold-claw gloves. (It cost $25,000!)

I suspect it's the directors of the music videos, the stylists, etc., who are influenced by what each other is doing. Miley probably just shows up and does what she's told.
She and Adam had a similar problem, how to break out of the G-rated box they've spent a lot of time in (Disney, American Idol) and declare that they're about more than that. Perhaps not surprising that their videos are similar. But whether that persona is authentic for her, as it clearly is for Adam -- that might be a tougher sell.
It will be interesting to see how it goes for her - I am already seeing backlash from horrified parents ... It's not unlike the reaction to Adam, though without the religious right getting involved and banning things, since there's no gay factor.
