If by chance your travels took you into downtown Scranton Wednesday you may have heard the ear-piercing shrieks coming from The Mall at Steamtown,

There was lots of near-fainting going on as an American Idol met some of his fans face-to-face.

American Idol star Adam Lambert, who was the runner-up on last year's season, is kicking off his national tour in Wilkes-Barre Friday at the F.M. Kirby Center so Wednesday The Mall at Steamtown and 97-BHT rolled out the red carpet for him and a few of his biggest fans.

Hours before the event started a line was already forming at The Mall at Steamtown.

One hundred lucky fans won tickets to meet Adam Lambert in a meet-and-greet promotion sponsored by the mall and radio station 97 BHT.

"Oh, it's huge. We love doing it. We've had many celebrities in the mall, and each one is fun. It's great for people to meet people they want to see and for them to do it here is great for us," said Arthur E. Levandoski of The Mall at Steamtown.

Adam Lambert was the runner-up of last year's American Idol season but is arguably one of its more popular alums.

Adam fans kissed his cardboard cutout, chanted and even brought CDs to sign.

"I'll probably scream," said Kara Johnson of Wyalusing.

"I don't know what I'm gonna say. I'm gonna be like, whoa," said Mallory Maloney of Wyalusing, who added she's always been a fan, "Yeah, since the first night we saw him."

Then, the big moment.

A few young girls looked as though they might pass out as Ralphie Aversa from 97 BHT interviewed the singing star.

"It's a great place to start, the northeast and we were here before with the Idol tour and the audience was great. We thought we could relax here for a few days, get our final finishing touches on the tour and get it ready," Lambert said.

"We lucked out in NEPA! The fact he's kicking off his tour in Wilkes-Barre, he's here early to rehearse, he has a few days to do some radio promotion. He can say thanks to the fans here in NEPA who've supported him," Aversa said.

BHT DJs said Lambert's tour is so popular he has already had to add extra concert dates.

@Anon 4:43 - too funny - yes "SIGH...pout" LOL. Well said.

Also, sooooooo happy to see all the teens... I think it probably makes AL happy on many levels, not the least of which is that the teens are a huge huge BUYING demographic, maybe even more so than older fans who actually have make and have their own money. No offense to us older fans, I am one, but let's be honest, for various reasons, it is very good for Lambert to have all these teens going crazy for him.
