Adam is a flamboyant glam gay guy and most of his songs are disco dance-pop. So it's weird that lots of his hardcore fans in US are 40+ women. It seems like he hasn't built a decent-sized fanbase outside of the Idol viewing housewives yet. I guess that he needs more big radio hits to attracts younger audience.
the pretty boys are there but remember this middle aged fan base have played a big role in getting him where he is today. If not for them, he may have been voted off the Top 10 earlier and wouldn't be as successful as he's become.
Disagree, Adam's voice will sustain him as an artist. He has made music exciting again for older fans, but his appeal goes across the board. Read somewhere that there is an elitist group of gays that don't openly embrace him. Wonder how they really feel?
Taylor Hicks had a huge middle-aged female fan base but where is he now? Carrie, Kelly, Daughtry are hugely successful in US because they have had a fanbase outside of the Idol fandom. I just don’t want what happened to Taylor and Clay Aiken to happen to Adam. We know people kept mocking them for having old ladies as their obsessive hardcore fans.
Glam rock and disco were free of politics. The hippie movement was about politics and I don't know about the gay movement of today, how politicized it is?
For those concerned about younger fans, Adam was just voted Best Tour of 2010 over at tweeter.faxo.com. They are always having contests. Adam won with 8646 votes, second place to Bieber-6984 and 3rd to Jonas Bro. (they still around?) with 3697. Due to 3rd place, that's why I say it's young fans voting. Go Adam !!!!!!! Other info. the venue in Costa Mesa with 8500 fans was the #1 venue for July-Aug for concerts and event grosses. #1 for attendance and revenues of all venues 5,000-10,000 (Venues Today). I like to think that the 2 nites Adam was there made this possible! Adamluv
Ladies young or older it don't matter. Everybody loves Adam cause he is so sweet and nice to everybody. So people chill when it comes to Adams older fans:)Adam don't care cause he's making money for his future...... this is his career.
To all Anons.: I'd never heard of any of the AI alumni before Adam Lambert came to my attention! Do you know what I mean by that? It's too late now for him to fade away. The entire world has found out about AFL/BB/Glam God!! How far he'll climb up the fame ladder.. it's up to him! We are staying online for him all over the world. I'll bet that every single minute of every day at least one Glambert is ..'glamactive' on a site, twitter or something! In several years he'll be rocking out in Africa too.. with his voodoo cane, skull masks and bare feet (or whatever he will be into by then).. and with skinny black people chanting and dancing all around! Can you imagine this? (well, he's a downtown city boy, but I think he might love the experience.. for a day or two :-). THAT would be indeed 'ICONIC'! A different kind of MJ!? Let's wait and see.) :-)
I've been to 5 concerts and there were plenty of young fans in attendance, even a GA when they skipped school to line up. These photos are from fan club meet and greets. Most young fans do not have $175 to spend on them. Now if you look at the meet and greet photos from the radio stations they are mostly under 30. From what I saw the fan base was extremely diverse. In Houston there was an 80 years old lady with a boa dancing right beside a 14 year old girl with a matching boa and they did not come together. Another big issue was that concerts sold out so fast that unless you were a member on a fan site, you may not have even heard about ticket sales. Then resale prices for good tickets were crazy. I easily spent over $2,000 on floor tickets for the 5 concerts I attended, not many teens and 20's can afford this. Hopefully bigger venues next time around will bring more affordable ticket prices and younger fans will have the opportunity to attend. I think there are a lot of younger fans out there they are just not as “visible” as us women of a certain age. There is room for all of us!
OHHH, GLAMDAMN! Thanks God I haven't read all the comments (and I think I won't do it because I really don't feel like feeling my blood boiling again). In the other hand, maybe I should try it in a while... just take a look at the serious commenters, my glamfellows in this thread....

«Old women can be controlled»???? What the glamhell are you talking about? I'm 57, feel beautifuly like a VERY ALIVE GLAMBITCH-OLD-WOMAN, always helpful, very supportive, very loving, very «here» and «there» or WHEREVER I CAN BE NEEDED, always supporting my sweet Adam until I die (or even after I die, Death by Adam or whatever...). Thanks God I feel myself very blessed for have had a really pleasant and interesting L-I-F-E!!! And NO ONE except the very God All Mighty (WHO CREATED ME and CREATED+GAVE TO sweet Adam all his sweet gifted+blessed multi talents... only my Divine Creator can take this away from me!!!
I've nothing against young people but let see it together... Half of YOUNG PEOPLE are so welcome into our lives! And also into sweet Adam's life! WHAT A WASTE the other half (sometimes adults playing teenagers...who knows?) just SOCKS! Fan4fun
Fan4fun: @10:56 said "older women can be controlling sometimes." Totally different than being controlled. That is the problem on this site and many others, people don't take the time to read and understand what is being written or they misconstrue what has been written and then blast the writer. And as for your YELLING, let's leave that up to the four year olds, ok? You can get your point across by using your inside voice much better than screaming at people. Your choice of words leaves something to be desired as well. JMO
Thank you for your service to our country, Sgt. Foster. If it weren't for you and all the other men and women in our military, none of us would have the freedom to express our opinions on this site or any other. Again, thank you and God Bless you.
Adam Lambert fan, 34, third time on this site, first post and proud to be -
Do you think that 40+old women usually listen to dance pop songs like FYE and IIHY? In general, idol fanbases are not music buyers but TV watchers. And they support the person through the reality tv show and have a feeling they know them personally and protect them. If you wrote one negative review about them, there would be hundreds of comments that defend their idols. It’s just a twisted motherly instinct, usually older women do that towards young male contestants. But this type of fans isn't big enough to sustain a successful music career for any idol contestant. That's why Adam needs to built a fanbase outside of the Idol fandom.
GloriaHAMMOND, you dont know Fan4fun! She wasnt yelling and she can choose to write any words she wants! You aint her mother! She's one of the good guys here who always supports Adam! And to Jason, welcome back on the site. Had been wondering about you. Had heard that the man in uniform had been given tickets and a M&G with adam (HOPE THAT IS TRUE). Adamluv
I am so glad you posted Sgt Foster. Best wishes as you embark on your brave mission to Afghanistan! I will keep you in my prayers. May Adam keep you entertained! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service to our country.
Instead of citing individual comments (for the most part), I will just add my comment that even tho for some reason there is a crazy notion that the majority of Adam's fans are middle aged women (guilty of that, BTW, but surely that is coincidental...LOL!!!)), I have to echo the observations that the concerts I have been to (4 since last year...and three to go...woo hooo!!!) have all had a very diverse turn out of all ages. LOTS of younger fans, twenties, thirties, etc all the way up to those sexy senior citizens who were every bit as enthusiastic as the teens....The next concert that I will attend, next week, will include in my "group" an 11 year old, several twenty-somethings, early thirties, forties, fifties, and at least one 60 year old (young) man who is a big fan...and several of the others are guys as well, including a gay couple...Some are my family members and others are friends....Not everyone in the world watches Idol, so it just takes time for anyone from there to become really "known" and Adam IS achieving that, not just here, but world-wide...He is played on the radio here where I live (Seattle area) which is so fabulous, and in fact just as I got in my car after work, who should I hear but Adam....and it wasn't my CD either!!! LOL!!! And that interesting comment about "older women can be controlling sometimes"....whatever THAT meant...and what it has to do with Adam's career, I don't know!!!
Was good to see the comment from Sgt. Jason Foster...safe journey to you and keep everyone rockin' with Adam over there...
And Gloria, welcome to the site but please be nice to Fan4fun...she indeed loves and supports Adam and just gets very "enthusiastic" when she gets going about Adam...don't we all!!! @Anon 6:54, you wrote, There is a hierarchy on this site :).
You put a smiley face, so I guess that is supposed to soften your statement? I don't believe there is a hierarchy (and btw, it's a BLOG on the INTERNET...geez), but what there may be is some camaraderie among frequent posters, albeit camaraderie on a BLOG on the INTERNET :). If you want to change things here, if you care to, maybe you don't, then use a tag and get involved.
Off-Topic Alert: I add mine to the chorus of thank yous to Staff Sgt. Jason Foster. And actually, I am sitting here blogging in front of the TV and I'm watching cable news and I JUST finished looking up to watch a story on Rachel Maddow where the entertainment world intersected with the political and military worlds. I don't have full details, I will be looking into it further for my own personal interests, but quickly - Lady Gaga brought on the VMA red carpet with her 4 members, or I should say ex-members, of various branches of the U.S. Military - all of whom were dismissed from service due to DADT (Don't Ask Don't Tell). To reiterate, I literally JUST watched this, I don't have details, but on the face of it, the surface of it, I think Gaga's intentions are very commendable. One young woman and one young man that were on the red carpet had been previously interviewed on Maddow, both interviews I saw, and both great assets to the military seemingly, and DADT is a terrible policy IMHO. (I hope our current Administration moves forward on this issue, making changes is not as easy as many would have you belive, it's not the sweep of a pen, that is understood and I'm not putting anyone down, but I hope DADT stays on the radar, on the FRONT burner and not the back one). I won't go on and on because this is an Adam Lambert entertainment blog, and may have very very little to do Sgt. Foster, but it does have something to do with good, well qualified men and women being dismissed from an entity that Sgt. Foster presumably loves and has put his heart and soul into, and if any of our U.S. Military troops are less safe because of the dismissal of well qualified people based on their sexual orientation, that's concerning, and worth putting out there and posting about so that anyone reading here who might not otherwise have looked into the policy might do so, I think that's acceptable (or use the scroll down function). And how that all ties into this thread - well I think that should be fairly obvious. To Staff Sgt. Jason Foster - I say be well and be safe... and I hope your unit enjoys those downloads!!! :) MGF
Just remember what it was like to be super young and striving for super cool! We were like that too and anything that older peeps liked, was somehow just suspiciously NOT cool. That is just how it is between young and old and it is OK and a necessary part of taking their place in the world. This has been a unique challenge and I'm sure Adam feels it too - how to respect and appreciate the support and love that comes from us and still spark the new energy from those his own age. He talked about the gay scene in the Rolling Stone article - go back and read it. There is a strong faction that strives to operate in a way that does not draw attention to themselves, that tries at all cost to blend in and look - hetero. Adam ruffles feathers on all fronts and they are no exception and GOOD FOR HIM!! He is SO honest! I just don't think we should wave our age flag in front of a just any old comment-battle and be so frickin' defensive. Adam knows we love him and would throw ourselves on a railroad track to protect him. He is in awe of that and reaps the wonder but he belongs to his own generation - which is how it SHOULD be!!! I'm just sayin' - think before you scream - is it truly supporting Adam or is it just going to count towards some absurdity scale that may reflect on him. (Now shoot me!!)
Thanks Maggie - Been here every single day - just not always using my tag - I'll have to think about "why" ownership of my words is sometimes so hard. Will take more lessons from Adam's courage and ..... truck on!!
Colorforadam: I'm a bit confused about something you said. Adam is pushing 30. So does that mean children and younger teens should keep their distance, because they are not "his generation." And can you honestly say that Adam "belongs" to anyone? I see him more as a free spirit. He is all about inclusiveness, diversity and empowering society's outcasts. But what do I know? Maybe he feels the way you do. And his "older" fans do embarrass him. I hope he's not that shallow. But if it turns out that he is, then I may need to reevaluate my obsession. By the way, "old women" are more likely to buy his music and less likely to illegally download it than certain other age groups. And I'm guessing that those "old women" contributed greatly to pulling Adam's ass out of the fire after the AMA's. Peace, Love, and Rock-and-Roll
Well, well, well... yesterday I left this site in such a hurry, just after posting my comment here, because I was called back to work to replace someone that called sick. >> Note: yesterday I wasn't waring my GLASSES because I couldn't find them (my glam and possibly gay cat Icon decided to play with them under the bed! He is young...). Anyway I'm back (WITH MY GLASSES ON MY NOSE) to 24/7 «Paradise» only now and glamshit(!), I guess my comment above (Sep. 13, 2:19PM) has provoked kind of a circus here!
Let's try to fix some things:
@ Anonymous 10:56AM, as I just said, I was called back to work and in that rush I was, I really read «old women can be controLLED sometimes» instead of «old women can be controLLING sometimes», and whether mea culpa or not, my natural explosive reaction just came out (who knows ME knows WHY, many different bloods in my veins).
@ Adamluv and @ Glitzylady To both of you dearest fellows, one teaching at and from LA, the other being the very «Voice of patience», thanks a lot for coming in my defense. Yay! I've got my Glamily, indeed! My glamcousins ARE for me, I'm not alone in the middle of the ocean loving my sweet Adam! Ha!
@ Gloria Hammond (Adam Lambert fan, 34, third time on this site, first post and proud to be Gloria Hammond) NICE TO MEET YOU!!! No kiding! So glad to see one more «Anonymous» coming out from the shade! Was that because of my 4 years old scream? Ha!Never mind, true glamfans must be proud of their names/tags... and experiences... and posts! As well as sweet Adam is so proud of being WHO HE IS, having all of us around!
PS: Talking about being proud... I sustain my statement. Fan4fun
"at this point no one needs to worry about adam being successful or not. he has proven himself."
No. Adam needs to sell millions records to be considered as an established reacording artist like Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry. And image is very important for pop/rock stars. Both Clay Aiken and Taylor Hicks have been ridiculed constantly for having a fanbase that are primarily older women. If there is a perception that Adam’s fans are primarily older women then people will mock him the way they did Clay. When you see a woman old enough to be an idol's parent or grandparent publicly sexually lusting for an idol -- that is creepy. This is not ageist. If a whole bunch of old men started following Crystal Bowersox around and if her fans consisted of primarily old men....people would say something is wrong. If a whole bunch of old men started posting all over the internet that they were sexually lusting for Crystal and posting that they were in their 50s, 60+....the reaction would be negative. It’s not a good image for a young pop/rock star any way I look at it.
@6:06pm, you have a point I guess. It would be blind and stubborn of me not to admit that. But Adam has many young fans abroad, in US too, but many abroad. And If you look at coverage from Canada, that promo tour last Fall especially, it was MOSTLY young fans!! I caught a few gnt concerts, a lot of teens there, 20'2, 30's too, a real lot. More fanboys every day. More club crowd everyday. Adam Lambert in different league than Aiken & Hicks, Lambert will grow the fanbase he needs to prevent what you are concerned about, I believe. I do see your point, but I think Adam might be okay on this issue. And just sayin but, I have a huge family and my family and friends who love and listen to Kelly, Carrie, Daughtry are all OLDER. Seriously, not being an asshole to you, most are women, some older men and they love Carrie and Daughtry, but all older. Most of the under 25 people I come into contact with in my own world, a lot btw!, are fans but by no means huge fans of Carrie/Daughtry, more seem to like Kelly's tracks. They like them just fine, listen to their tracks, but only purchase their full blown mega hits, if that. I know Carrie has a huge young following among country, but her CROSSOVER fanbase, in my observation, is older people actually. Clarkson & Daughtry too, except for their huge huge radio hits, their followers are older, older than 25 anyway, I follow music and that's what I observe. I'm just using the artists you threw out there, but the same is true for many successful ones, more older fans than under 25/30 ones in my observations. Older men like Daughtry and Nickelback for their rock edge (keeps them in the realm of their beloved Bon Jovi and that sort of thing), older women like Daughtry for the same reason AND becuase he seems to keep a good relationship with his wife and kids, that sort of thing. And if you think these Daughtry loving woman, and the older country music loving men aren't lusting after, fantasizing about and drawn to them for non-musical reasons and their looks, you're as blind as some of the people who don't see that there is probably a little truth in what you said in your post! Whatever, it's just interesting, just saying that there is a actually a relatively small group of successful artists who really truly pull in the teen to 25ish crowd anyway in my observations, but I do see your point, I do, but think it's going to be okay for Adam Lambert on that one.

Coloforadam
Coloforadam - Welcome back, you've been missed. I certainly won't be shooting you.
Sgt. Foster - I'm holding your hand, hugging you, waving my flag, thanking you and praying for you to be safe.
Maggie Longfellow
at this point no one needs to worry about adam being successful or not. he has proven himself.
Thanks Maggie - Been here every single day - just not always using my tag - I'll have to think about "why" ownership of my words is sometimes so hard. Will take more lessons from Adam's courage and ..... truck on!!
coloforadam
Colorforadam:
I'm a bit confused about something you said. Adam is pushing 30. So does that mean children and younger teens should keep their distance, because they are not "his generation."
And can you honestly say that Adam "belongs" to anyone?
WTF!!!!!!
@ Adamluv and @ Glitzylady
To both of you dearest fellows, one teaching at and from LA, the other being the very «Voice of patience», thanks a lot for coming in my defense. Yay! I've got my Glamily, indeed! My glamcousins ARE for me, I'm not alone in the middle of the ocean loving my sweet Adam! Ha!
@ Gloria Hammond (Adam Lambert fan, 34, third time on this site, first post and proud to be Gloria Hammond)
NICE TO MEET YOU!!!
