Adam Lambert on Lady Gaga, Madonna, and being a gay icon

He said something similar a few months ago but Adam recently repeated these again in a new interview which has been making rounds on the internet.
On Lady GaGa:
"She told me about the previous three years. She worked really, really hard before she made it. She told me there's no glamour, you don't get a lot of sleep, you don't get a lot of stability in your social life - you just have to count on yourself and go for it. It was a good pep talk. And she was right."
On Madonna:
"She told me that you can't get wrapped up in all the media and message boards, that everyone's going to have an opinion. People will criticize you especially when you're doing it well. You can't do much better than getting career advice from Madonna. She's the queen, right? I've learnt there are plenty of challenges, but if you work hard enough you can arrive. You find a spot for yourself and get to communicate with your art and hopefully inspire people. That's what I'm working towards."
On being a gay icon:
"I think my style has an international flavour. It's not your typical Americana type of performing. Internationally I don't think people shy away from flamboyance as much as Americans might. I'm very comfortable with my sexuality and I have no qualms talking about it. It's important for me to be bold about it. There are not a lot of examples of that in pop culture. I'm happy to fill that role. But I did an interview the other day and every question was a sensationalized question about being gay and the gay lifestyle. There's a fine line. As open as I am to mentioning it, I'm not a gay spokesman. I'm a singer. I'm an entertainer who happens to be gay. I'm going to work hard with the next album to make that the message. When the first line is 'Openly gay singer Adam Lambert …' it gets a little frustrating. The singer part should definitely come first. That's what I do."

Adam Lambert should be given the credit where credit is due! Adam is simply a great and an amazing artist!!!
So glad that he's getting pointers & advices from the pros & an icon who's been there and that!!!
From Perez? Interesting. The information from Gaga is new to me. Can't imagine what interview he's talking about that was still trying to focus on his sexuality. They don't say "openly gay Congressman Barney Frank." It's really insulting, and I certainly understand Adam's frustration and probably a little anger. Just keep on doing what you're doing Adam. You have great instinct.
Adam just tweeted that he landed safely in Singapore. I think time zone is roughly 13 hours ahead of us depending on our time zone so it's Friday afternoon.
Good to know that in a moment of crisis I can trust Perez :)
Well Adam, we love everything about you. From your mane of dark hair and your gorgeous glittery eyes, to your amazing vocals down down down to your uh hem uhhhh...your boots!
Love to you all! It has been a wild ride. I look forward to a lifetime of chatting with ALL of you from all over the world...our glamily!

@12.34
what is with the wash hands continously....
I could understand that comment if he was touring in parts of India, or smaller Asian countries, but he;s going to be in Singapore, HK, Kul, Tokyo etc all of which are major world cities.
p.s did you see the tweets saying Tommy has lost his passport and is stuck in HK. Maybe I should try and go and find him and give him a hand...
HK fan
How in the glamhell can Tommy lose his passport? «I» would be supposed to do that, after have been kissed&licked so many times this hot-hot summer by sweet Adam! But baby Tommy has kept his head on the right place (at least when sweet Adam has to find him to kiss&lick it). Are you following me so far? LOL
Fan4fun
PS: Someone please give him back his passport. He has quite a show to play on tomorrow!!!!
Wash your hands.....don't want BB to catch cold
don't take this list seriously..juat having fun
Tommy had trouble with his passport the last time he went overseas. He couldn't finish the tour. He was trying to get it straightened out. He must have a problem with it, not likely he lost it. Glad its not Monte.
Yes, Adam. You should be introduced as amazingly fantastic singer, Adam Lambert. The best popular male vocalist around.
When someone says "openly gay singing" I personally think it is rude and thoughtless. I think Adam is now in the position to say before an interview gets started to simply request that be omitted if it was on the list of questions. You notice on twitter question etc. from fans no one ever disrespects Adam? I have seen some very positive interviews too this summer who do focus on his talent and humor. We can get so much more out of someone with honey than vinegar right? these interviewer have to realize this is an honor to meet and interview someone like Adam and respect him and his work!
@4.18
according to MJs. he left the US, and lost his passport on the flight, the crew looked for it but couldn't find it, which means he couldn't leave HK for Sin until he gets a new one, but emergency ones can be done very quick.

When did we ever hear an introduction like, "openly heterosexual" preceed anyone's discription in an article. It is crazy to keep useing "openly gay singer" in his articles. Use the space to describe his stunning vocals and his mesmerizing stage presence. Adam can represent the United States as an extemely talented singer...and they are so in for a treat! Soaked is going to blow his International audience away!
@ Cheril
Wow!!! You've made a priceless good point here, honey! «openly heterosexual»... haha! I have to Lol!
Fan4fun
I think from here on we should refer to "straight " entertainers as openly glum. Just a thought. Love the awesome King of Glam Rock that is our Adam!
lmb
Adam needs to heed Lady Gaga's advice and release his album no later than early spring 2011. You need to strike while your hot. Lady Gaga became famous in January 2009 and then released her second album in November 2009 while still touring for her first album.
That sounds good anon 9:01
Oh, and another thought. If two interviewers are still obsessing on Adam's orientation, and they are " straight" we could refer to them as glum and glummer....There! I am done for the day.
lmb
THE DAILY10 IS SAYING SAYONARA BABY....I ASSUME WE COMPLAINED ENOUGH.(RIGHFULLY SO) SO...LET'S DO THE SAME WITH WRITERS THAT INCLUDE "THE GAY THING"..JUST COMPLAIN. OPRAH SAID IT WILL TRANSITION, JUST NOT DOING IT FAST ENOUGH.
Hi Glamily
Still having computer issues...and if it doesn't get resolved soon Imma cut a bitch... but in my iTouch to check in and say hi to all. Glad to hear BB has landed safely... I never (ever ever) think about AFL with a motherly view ;), but I am indeed a mother & am happy to know he's arrived safely.
MGF (openly devout lover of AFL)
:)
Any word on Kissy Face...TJL....if he can't make it...who gets the Glam Kiss???
Sorry TJR.....need Adam fix...
@ lmb
I openly loved your suggestions, baby! Lol!
Fan4fun
How's this ... ADAM LAMBERT ... Captivating King of Glam Rock ... instead of the lame ... 'openly gay singer'?
tess4ADAM
I think many reporters are confused and don't know how to represent him and what not to ask. Maybe they should skip all the gay questions? Just asking, because then we could inform the people who interview him in our countries outside the US.
Any reporter who describes Adam as "openly gay singer" automatically becomes "obviously idiotic interviewer" in my mind, and there they stay.

Just so you know, I have long been an openly proud fan of your comments and sense of humor.
When my husband and I left the concert in Puyallup, we were standing at a crosswalk with other people who had attended. There also was a group of tween boys there ( who were not at the concert). One of them looked up at the sign and said " Adam Lambert" isn't he gay? I wasn't prepared for a comeback...but there it is! Still in transition I guess. Maybe we should come up with comebacks to this stuff. In PFLAG they suggested that when you hear a slur or offensive joke to say, "Some people might think that, but I don't." or "Some people might think that is funny, but I think it is offensive." This tween's statement wasn't offensive, it was just frustrating. What does the Glamily think?
lmb
Make it an emergency Glamily meeting then, just to prevent any conflicts between the Glamberts and European media. Last time there were a few interviews that brought up his sexual orientation. The worst interview was in Sweden, where the two guys took their clothes off for Adam..
Sence preserve us!! Yes, that is a disgusting opening for an intrview. I hate to hear it every time one starts it. I love the quote made by
@Cheril, "openly heterosexual". That was a good one. I'm going to remember that so I can use it.
@MGF, when you mentioned AFL, Were you talking about Adam? If so, were you referring to his initials? I thought they were AML. Adam Mitchel Lambert. Don't smack my hand if I'm wrong, I'm in love with the same Man that you are in love with. Goodness, he sure has the love coming his way. I hope he can feel all his Glamily's love where ever he goes. (ps, I checked out those Libracats vids and they were grrrr8! thanks.)
Love and Light to all.
FF
@ daydreamin, when you talk to the boys each day, be sure to ask Neil to make us vids a pics to satisfiy our thurst for some Adam. Need it to keep us going. Thanks,
FF
Oh, I wanted to drop this tid-bit of information.
Adam Lambert drew the LARGEST CROWD EVER by any musical group to the Tropicana Field on 9-18!!!!
The Trop is still talking about it. They have had some great bands there, recently, Daughtry, ZZ Top to mention a couple but NEVER in Trop history has singer packed it in like our Adam did. Great going Adam!!
FF
FF great news about Tropicana Field! I knew he could do it in any size stadium!
daydreamin
Let's see here...his was a very busy little thread...
lmb: "openly glum"...that is wickedly clever...love it! Also, the "Adam Lambert, isn't he gay?" comment...what about answering with a "yes". What more needs to be said? It's not like it's a secret. How they respond to your answer "yes" could turn out to be interesting, and require some thought, though.
FF: Trop Field, biggest seller? Well, natch! That is some awesome trivia.
Fan4fun and MGF: HI! Miss you guys.

@ FF
Hi baby, as our fellow MGF is in trouble with her computer and other tasks, I'll try to define «AFL» for you, and hope I'm not wrong, as English is not my 1th language.
I guess that by «AFL» she means «Adam Fucking Lambert», but in a good sense of meaning, like sweet Adam would be allowed to call us «PBG» (Passionate Bitches Glamberts)...????? May be... not? Lol
@@ FF
...And a correction: His initials are not AML but SAML (Sweet Adam Mitchel Lambert), right?
Fan4fun
My response to any comment regarding Adam's "orientation" is, "...And your point is??"
Scootersmom, I like the combination of "Yes. And your point is?" All said very sweetly and innocently! Adamluv
Yes yes - "and your point is..." OMG, Brill!
@FF - yep, the ever helpful Fan4fun is correct on the AFL thing :)
Thanks Adam Fix. Hey, where's funbunn40? I know she visiting someplace, not at home, wonder if she's been commenting & I've just missed it?
MGF
Thanks for the responses to my question. I think the simple "yes" is brilliant. After all, if someone had asked, isn't he left-handed? or isn't he tall? I would have been fine with that. Soon (I hope) that will be the way I feel about that question. That would be very nice. Thanks Glamily. You guys rock as usual.
