Adam has done this nice interview right before his gig at the Magazzini Generali in Milan - Italy- on November 24th.
"Sometimes life is like a huge high school"
Adam was in Italy for his first concert in this country on November 24th. Before the show we talked about his record, his fans and the wrong prejudices that people have about him.
We are used to see him on stage, with bright costumes, glitter and heavy make-up, with the powerful and impeccable voice, a surprising self-confidence and a mastery of the scene that only those who have been in the spotlight for years can have.
But offstage Adam Lambert, a twenty-eight years old native of Indiana, is a sweet boy with the eyes of the color of the greek's sea, who greets me with a warm handshake and a beaming smile. He wear a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and a blue and pink plaid shirt, just a little of black make up around the eyes, ruined nailpolish and some beautiful rings that i keep look all the time, promising to tell him how much I like them (but then, of course, I forget).
He talk with transport, always laughing and sipping an unidentified hot drink.
It 's the first time you come in Italy?
No, tecnically it's the second one. I spent a week in Bologna, at 23.
On vacation?
No, I was doing a musical. At the City Opera ... Tiatro Comunal?
Ah, Teatro Comunale!
Here .. I try to do the accent right, but I suck! (Laughs)
No, it was good! Were you able to walk around and see Milan?
Not yet, I have just arrived. But tomorrow I have the day off here, so I'm going to go shopping, buy a lot of clothes ... oh my God, I can not wait! And then I'll drink a lot of wine ... tomorrow is the American Thanksgiving, which is a great family holiday, so we'll all go to dinner together, I, the band and dancers.
Thanksgiving in Italy .. it's weird! I think you have to do without the turkey, but it does not matter!
Yes, it's a great way to spend Thanksgiving! And well, you know, you just need to find good food!
You've already met with the Italian fans?
Not yet, i'll meet them tonight and I'm really impatient! You know, the best thing about being on tour is being able to see people of every city you go. It happens that sometimes I can not even take a trip to see the city itself, but meet fans of the place where you are is a great way to become aware of the community and the culture. I must say that I really watch and study people when I'm on stage, it's interesting to see how they react to certain songs, certain words, certain movements.
Having traveled the world far and wide you'll come face to face with different cultures ... it this somehow a source of inspiration?
Well, let me tell you that lately I am very inspired by all the pretty boys in the audience ... it's fantastic! And here in Europe is better than anywhere else, so ... that put a smile on my face! (Laughs)
Well there are some cute guys in the queue ...
Really? Well, seriously, both boys or girls, I'm happy to have people who know the lyrics of my songs and are excited to be here ... they're so passionate about, and see that passion is really exciting, it hcharge me, it gives me energy and makes me want to give you all the best.
Hve you ever been a fan of someone so bitter?
No, never! It never happened ... In fact I can not understand it completely, but I'm very flattered.
What are the craziest things that the fans have ever done for you?
Well, there are American fans who are following me through the whole European tour. It 's great, and I'm glad they have the opportunity to come here on vacation and use me as an excuse! (Laughs) There were some in Paris who were all excited ... "Oh, we're in Paris!"
And I was "Oh, me too!"
Have you ever been in embarrassing situations, perhaps due to different habits of which you had no idea, in a foreign country ... you know, for example, in Asia people are hard to physical contact...
Ah yes it's a bit different, but you know it's funny because, for example, the fans I met in Tokyo were very physical. If you're lucky, you can transcend cultural barriers ... at the end I think it's my music, as an artist I'm a little different, so I tend to attract an audience with a looser mentality ... I try to create around me an atmosphere of freedom, openness.
Let's talk about your album. We can say that it's a mix of genres and styles, how it's born and developed a project so different?
Well, during American Idol I performed in many different genres ... I was very classic rock, then a song like Mad World, which is more new wave, i've done some acoustic ... and doing such a variety of styles during the show I wanted a record that reflected it. I did not want, with the album, to stray too far from what I've been on the show, any thing that has led fans and entertain people...
But at the same time it was very important for me to do something contemporary, modern, while much of the music that I brought back there was part of a repertoire, because of the voice I have. It 'was an interesting challenge to combine old and new.
There are several influences of '70s and '80s, some rock, but mixed with a modern pop sound, with its rhythms and the production behind it ... well, I wanted something different. There are very pop songs and radio, but in general I can say that the disc has a different taste.
You have big names between the collaborations: Matt Bellamy, P!nk, Linda Perry, Lady Gaga ... How it was knowning that they wanted to work with you?
It was a huge compliment! An highlight was sitting in the studio with Gaga. She's a very intelligent and enthusiastic person ... we talked about music, the music market, the path that she did in the past two years to get where she is now. She gave me some advice. She's really great. Then we drank a couple of whiskey and we recorded the pieces. (Laughs)
And what would be the best of partnerships?
Oh, I'd love to write with David Bowie, it would be great. He has a lot of brilliant ideas. I do not know, there are a couple of people I like to workwith in the next album, but still not sure.
There is an acoustic album coming out, right?
Yes, an EP. There will be some acoustic versions of For Your Entertainment: Whataya Want From Me, Music again, Mad World, who is not part of For Your Entertainment, but I had done it on American Idol ... then there's Aftermath.
It's a piece that has a strong meaning for me, I wrote it with some friends. Among other things .. I do not know if you heard that there have been several cases of bullying in the U.S. lately ... I think this song is perfect. The idea, in writing, was to say: take the initiative and be who you are, be yourself, be true to yourself and your loved ones. Although sometimes it's scary and difficult, tomorrow you will find solace and salvation.
It 's a beautiful song and a great message. I just wanted to ask you this ... you took part in the "It gets better" project, with a video where you say that even a famous person like you is somehow a victim of bullying, albeit different from those experienced by boys at school . How you live with all this?
Well sometimes it's hard, you know. Basically you just have to ignore it, what else can you do? If you waste too much energy to respond, or if you let it affect you, you're handing the victory to those people, as I say in my video. Yes, it's different from what these guys live, I'm sure for them it is much harder .. I have something very strong to hold on for support, right now .. but life sometimes is like a huge high school. There are people who do not mature all that much, you know, at least those full of hatred and ignorance, those people never stop acting like high school, somehow. So ... you just have to ignore them.
You came out of a talent show, and I do not know if it's the same in U.S., but in Italy many people are skeptical about the singers who become famous thanks to these programs. Do you think that sometimes they really miss something that, those who emerges in "traditional" way, has?
Yes, I think it's like this everywhere. I do not think you can generalize, however. The beauty of a tvcompetition is that you can use it to gain visibility as a place of exposure. I make music for a long time, initially I did theater, then I started to write my things, I had a band for a while, then I started to record ... but what I realized very quickly is that it's really hard to make it in music market .. especially in America ... especially for someone like me. I'm quite different from what people are used to see ... and the CEO of a record label, in his tux, will never ever look at me saying "Ah yes, that one is clearly a pop star.". I needed to find a way to enter, and use the power of the fans and the public. And I knew that if I managed to get to American Idol this would have open many doors, that's why I made the audition.
How important is the look for a pop star?
It 's important. For me to dress eccentricall is funny as much as singing. I love fashion, styling, you know ... I like to wear makeup and, well, it's funny!
You will hate me for this question because it has been asked a billion times ... you said you like Bill from Tokio Hotel, right?
Yes, he's cute!
... There is a kind of struggle between the fans, some of them are your fans while others can not stand you because they think you're trying to imitate him. What have you to say to these people?
Yes, I've heard about it, but this is ridiculous, there's really nothing to argue! We have similar tastes and I can not understand ... what is it that haunts so much the fans! (Laughs)
I started dressing like a fool and listen to the music I listen well before I come to know who Tokio Hotel are. You can may take some women pop stars and even make comparisons ... I do not know, you can look at Beyoncé and Rihanna and find a few similar things, like clothes they wore ... but no one is copying anyone! It's only fashion and style. We both like the black, we both want to be nice ... That's all! (Laughs) And we're both singers. Well, I sing live. He sings live?
Not always. For sure you have a much more powerful voice ...
... I didn't tell that! I do not want to offend anyone. (Laughs)
Have you ever thought to record your songs in another language?
Uhm ... No, but it would be a good test. I have already sung in other languages ... it would be cool. I sang in Italian! In high school I did lyrical music for like a year and half, so I learned Italian, Latin, i may have made a song in French ...
What is the worst prejudice that people have on you?
Well, I do not know what prejudices can have. At first I was all "oh my God, who knows what will people think!" Now I let it go, basically. Dunno, what do you think?
I do not know ... maybe just the one about Bill?
Ah yes, that is really big. But I think it just happened that, during some interviews, I've been asked who I liked and my honest reaction was to say "Well, Bill is a nice guy." It is, no? I'm not trying to steal him from the fans, don't worry! Among the other thing he's straight, no? Exactly. (Laughs)
Ok, no more Bill! What are the things that you just can not stand?
Um ... I hate dishonesty. When people lie, this really bothers me. And I hate when you talk to someone and this person do not you look into the eyes. It 's weird, I would say,' Hey, everything's fine, you can watch me! "
Three records that everyone should have?
Three discs of all time? Oh, good question. I would say Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" ... "Ray of Light" by Madonna and a Greatest Hits from Queen, with all the best songs. Yes, Michael Jackson, Madonna and Freddy Mercury seems to me a very good combination.
How do you see yourself in ten years?
I still hope to make music. Performing is something I love deeply, I love to sing, I love writing, I love the idea of being in the studio and the whole process behind an album ... I would like to learn more about the production ... I love making videos, concerts ... maybe sooner or later I'll try to make a movie, who knows.
Well, coming from the theater ..
Yes, it would be strong. I also like acting, I've done both, so ... it would be nice, but certainly in the first place is the music.
Is there any hope to see you soon in Italy?
I hope so! There will be a new album next year, so when it comes out I will do all my trips and ... well, I hope that people will want to listen to it here so I can come back, say hi and maybe stay more than one day only!

Loved the interview. Since the interviewer had translated it for the Italians, it sounded like Adam was Italian, and translating it to English. I could just hear his voice. I don't think he needs to sing in another language, because every country he performed in sang along with him in English, very cool.
Very nice interview!
Just a correction - he was born in Indiana but raised in Southern California. He's from San Diego.
adam said michael jackson-madonna and freddie emrcury -good combination when it coems to music(making music) well adma lambert;freddie emrcury-michael jackson and madonna also elvis presly same animal zodiac sign.loyl humble giftee(voice)now we know.

Is the the beginning of the fathom? Since the feast is basically over for awhile. Not sure how to fill my Adamless days now that stories and videos will be sparse. This interview was very nice. Hope that Adam gets hard at work after the first of the year on his new album. Great anticipation!!!
Straight to number one and then WLL in Foxwoods and then A change is gonna come from AI and then PH/WLL from Cologne and then straight to number one and then WWFM acoustic and then straight to number one and Soaked in Atlanta. Now I go straight to number one.

i love the respect that they show to Adam in my Europe and i allready miss him , what a trip it was , but i think Adam never gives us down , he will surprise us evrytime , he knows that we love him and we need him
amelie
BuLL! this interviewer dont know what she is taking about! Bill kaulitz has a much more better voice!
I wish interviewers would get over the Bill Kaulitz thing. It only upsets his fans when he and Adam are mentioned in the same conversation. Apart from that, it was a good interview.
I like Bill Kaulitz's voice, but Adam Lambert has a much more better voice than him!!!
1:42
What kind of obsession makes a Bill Kaulitz fan come to an Adam Lambert fan site and comment on an Adam Lambert interview? I would never comment on Bill Kaulitz´s voice or hairstyle bc he´s of no interest to me.
Eva
They just want their 2 cents worth of whinging Eva.
I would never comment re Bill Kaulitz either - not interested.
Lambert is too keen on embracing irrelevant persons such as Bill Kaulitz or the minority of US fans who follow him everywhere.
I'm an Adam but seriously, he should just admit the he copies Bill's style. So Bill did not invent the glam rock look but the way that Adam wears the exact same clothes that Bill has just wore is quite blatant. Heck, he even copied the current hair style.
6:16
I´m sure there is a deeper meening in that comment but it sadly escaped me.
Eva
Adam has copied Bill Kaulitz clothes numerous times. The only way he gets away with doing it is because Tokio Hotel is not big in the US.
Eva, don't worry if you didn't understand my comment, you're among the majority who don't.
I don't really mind who he copies, but why he keeps talking about Bill. Maybe he got a few fans in Europe that way, in Germany, Norway..?
Tokio Hotel is BIG in Europe. Bill has more than just a "few" fans. I seriously doubt Adam Lambert could ever get a concert with these many people like Tokio Hotel: http://www.beautywithoutirony.com/media/content/thumb_constrain_720_540/billatomkaulite_paris_fromtokio_hotel_stage_.jpg
Ok, here's what I'm trying to say, I don't think it is good that Adam licks Tokio Hotel fans. He should care about his own fans, also the majority of his fans, not just the entitled ones. I hope Eva too got my point now.
7:39
No, sorry! Does Adam "lick" Tokio Hotel fans? He obviously pisses them off since they rush in here with their usual crap about copying. And no one cares about his own fans like Adam, ALL of his fans.
Eva
Eva, I think I'm closer to the truth, because if Adam cared about all of his fans, he would get nominated. Now he just plays with the ones who piss off the media and the sponsors.
WTF. I think Adam needs a better publicist who tells the writer NOT to ask any dumb questions about Tokio Hotel or Bill K. from now on. Because it always brings out the crazies who can't deal with Adam & Bill being in the same sentence. Good Grief.
After reading comments I came to conclusion that Bill Kaulitz has irritating idiots for fans.
These cross-questioning about Kaulitz become irritating. Poor Adam, he has to repeat "I like Bill" all the time. I won't wonder, if he hates this question now.
I'm Tokio Hotel fan, but I like Adam too, and I'm really angry with these stupid journalists asking Adam about Bill in every interview. That's not cute or funny any more, just annoying.
Wish Adam and Bill could just meet in person and everyone would get over this insanity. Betcha they would become just friends as celebrities in the music business do all the time -- period. Nothing sexual, nothing bias.
What would really be funny if they could just go out and SHOP together, have a great time doing it - and put all the copycat naysayer comments to rest.
GEESH!!! It is not that serious !
HeartAdam4Ever
8:13
What has Adams caring for his fans to do with nominations? No wonder a majority doesn´t get your point.
Eva
It is a risk to nominate someone who might piss off majority of his fans the next moment. Adam is for small crowds that get him, forget the awards.
This site is way too filled with Bill K trolls. We got rid of KA fans now we have to deal with BK idiots.
Yes it´s obvious. Well, I wont spill another word on those nuts.
Eva
The Bill K fans here are real, but the KA fans probably were trolls. I am not a troll, neither a Bill K fan, Eva. Sorry, if you misunderstood me.
3:11
No I don´t think you´re a TH fan. I recognize the dooms day comments that´s spreading in every post again. The "majority" of Adams fans wants the Disney-Adam and the rest ruins his career. Ok?
Eva
What the hell is Disney Adam? Hey Eva, I've liked Robbie Williams for over a decade. He has a reputation of being a bad boy, but not on the stage though. I also like some rappers. Adam gets excited of the prudes I think..
Disney-Adam = Adam in a Kris Allen shirt.
Eva
Well, I don't know who Adam wants to entertain, the Tokio Hotel fans or the sex hungry moms. I don't belong to either group.
Kaulitz fans are you threatened by Adam's sucess? Why are you wasting time on this site instead of on Bill's? Isn't there anything there to see or be positive about? We're here to enjoy Adam, not to put Bill Kaulitz down or debate who looks like who. Why should we care? Adam doesn't and Bill probably doesn't either. Adam is always respectful and complimentary when asked these tiresome, ridiculous questions about Bill, whom Adam barely knows, if at all. They both have enough to do with their own careers. Elvis Presley had black dyed hair and wore black leather in the 1950s and 1960s. Maybe they both liked his look. Adam has been entertaining long before Bill and has his own style. Think it's time to get over this petty, sophmoric behavior and support your own celebrity and enjoy what they have to offer. Peace y'all funbunn40
@ 5:29 Sounds like you belong to the Justin Bieber pre-teen group. Isn't there anything interesting on his or other pre-teen site to capture your interest or did you get lost. Do you really care who Adam entertains? Check out his successful GNT and you'll find out if Adam is that important in your life. You obviously are facinated by him or you wouldn't waste your time on this site. He is exciting and talented. Guess you couldn't help yourself. I'm not going to waste any more of my time on negativity. funbunn40
I think a little of this interview got lost in the translation. Question: "Have you ever been a fan of someone so bitter?" Adam's ans: No never! It never happened...I cannot understand it completely, but I'm flattered." I have no clue what that means. Anyone? Looking forward to the Paris interview. funbunn40
funbunn40, not all did have the opportunity to go to the GNT concert, I didn't. Am I still allowed to say my opinion here? And I've been told so many times to leave this site already.
ADAM is such a unique and talented individual and does not need to copy anyone else for goodness sake. He stands in a league of greatness all of his own! ..And that's why he has
so many international fans throughout the world who travelled thousands of miles just to see Glam Nation this year.
So tired of the Adam v Bill stuff! Time to move on people!
Agreed Adam must get so tired of the same old, same old questions regarding Bill K. Who the hell cares. Give them both respect and leave it at that.
Question #1 best translation ever!..."It's the first time you come in Italy?" Would have loved the answer to that one. I forgive all "Bill" questions just for the laugh.
I'm sorry but Adam did not copy Bill's current hairstyle. Adam has been rocking the Elvis pompadour since he was on american idol and before. There is evidence. Look up him performing If I Can't Have You on American Idol almost two years ago. Bill still had his mohawk then. Bill just recently started wearing his hair this way when they started touring for humanoid.
I hate adam lambert I am one of the Tokio Hotel fans and i am proud of ot cause bill is way more cuter and nicer then adam lambert i just hope that bill is not interested in adam lambert BILL KAULITZ! ROCKS AND TOKIO HOTEL
Bill is so cute and hot
I write a comment each time I especially enjoy a
post on a website or if I have something to contribute to the conversation.
Usually it is triggered by the passion displayed in the article I looked at.
And after this article "Adam Lambert Italian Interview on GingerGeneration.it". I was actually moved enough to drop a comment ;
) I actually do have a few questions for you if you do not mind.
Could it be just me or do some of the remarks look as if they are coming from brain dead people?
:-P And, if you are posting on additional social sites, I would
like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post. Would you list all of all your communal pages like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?
