MTV newsroom: Can Adam Lambert Top The Pack For Best Male Pop Vocal?

Another great article from MTV:

This year's nominees for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance may be the most eclectic combination of names in all the categories. It's a testament to the fact that the pop world is a proverbial big tent that welcomes in all sorts of music under the header of "pop." There's throwback crooner Michael Bublé ("Haven't Met You Yet"), late R&B legend in Michael Jackson ("This Is It"), postmodern glam rocker Adam Lambert ("Whataya Want From Me"), new school soul sensation Bruno Mars ("Just the Way You Are") and blues pop revivalist John Mayer ("Half of My Heart").

No two of those artists are alike, which makes this an extremely difficult category to pick. The Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences would probably love to honor Jackson one more time, though by that same token, this category tends to be more about looking forward than looking back (which would make Mars or Lambert the favorites). However, Mayer is also a constant Grammy threat simply because he crosses so many genres (and he has also won this award four times before — a fifth victory would give him the most category wins of all time, passing Sting and Stevie Wonder). And there's always BublĂ©, who sells a ton of albums and is ubiquitous among the slightly older crowd the Grammys sometimes focus on.

It's a toss-up, really, but Mars has the slight edge. He's a complete package and has been nominated a bunch, which means that the entire night could swing in his favor in a big way. However, don't be surprised if Lambert or Mayer come up from behind and end up on top.

Notable Winners: Michael Jackson, Thriller (1984); Eric Clapton, "Tears in Heaven" (1993); Justin Timberlake, "Cry Me a River" (2004)

Notable Robberies: Sting won in both 2000 and 2001, and each time he should have lost to Marc Anthony's "I Need to Know" (2000) and Ricky Martin's "She Bangs" (2001). Also, Prince's "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" should have topped Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" in 1995.

Adam Lambert should win the grammy for this category. He is the best vocal talent in the music industry today...vocal perfection. I don't particularly want to see Bruno Mars out there being honored in view of his recent cocaine arrest. Adam deserves to get the grammy and it is outrageous that he is not presenting, or performing and if he does win, it will be given off stage. What does Adam have to do to prove that he is a true talent and can sing circles around most of the others nominated in any category.

Adam will end up on TOP because that's the way he likes it! He is going to win because he is simply the best singer with the best song. I am so excited for Adam. It is time for the good guy to win. Adam has earned this win with blood, sweat and tears. It's his. The fans around the world will be very happy on 2/13/11 - get ready!

Yeah. Pretty unbelievable, isn't it?

I googled Grammys today and I saw couple of Adam's pictures. I think he is gonna win. I have butterflies in my stomach just like AI8 finale night. I know this is different and over all win or lose Adam made his mark in the music industry. But I want him to win this award so bad. Guys let's raise the $290K for Charity Water this weekend and trend #Grammy4Adam on twitter.

Adam really deserves to win it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Bruno Mars is also very talented and is very commercial, which to me is the biggest threat. MJ of course has sentiment and one last money making opportunity in his favor. Think it could be any of these three, but vocally Adam tops them all. I hope that will determine the winner, as it should. funbunn40

What a GREAT idea!

If the voters were honest the title "Best Male volcalist" should go to Adam. It would have been great for all of them to sing on stage for people to judge who can sing the best. But that would never happen, Adam would blow the competition away and everyone knows that. What ever happens, he is the best there is and always will be.

"the slightly older crowd the Grammys sometimes focus on." REALLY? Then Adam has a chance!!

This just in: )(If it's not too late, maybe this will influence who will or will NOT win?):

Soooo...I really think Adam has a real chance of winning. Of course, it could go several different ways, but because he was nominated in the first place gives me hope they will acknowledge his performance and vocal skills by awarding him the Grammy. In theory anyway, this is not about popularity, criminal history, past award show performances, or past glory.... The many articles we have seen quite recently give me hope as well, including the MTV articles, and others (Pop Matters, the New York Post, etc.), who seem to agree that he SHOULD win.... His talent is recognized by those who "know" true talent and artistry, without getting bogged down in all the junk that seems to muddy the waters for Adam sometimes. I seriously hope MJ does not win, but of course it could happen. The others are all worthy as well. I have the Grammy CD and think they are all good. Adam just has such a mastery of his voice, and if that means anything, he should win. As the one article stated, this is such an eclectic mix of styles, all under the "Pop" category it is hard to judge, because they are all so different. If nothing else, I don't think we should assume that he will not win, because it could very will happen. I am just hoping they will stick to the guidelines given for judging this category and not get sidetracked with the "other stuff".

just cross our fingers guys.............

No matter what happens he is the right one indeed.

Love u Adam..........

very interesting how much the media continues to put Adam's name in article titles to bring folks in. Sorry, don't think BM is the total package. nothing exciting about seeing him perform.

Few weeks ago we celebrated that Adam got one nom (instead 4 as RCA announced but cound't affird to pay) Everybody were happy and same time 90% positive that MJ will get this award. But what is the big deal! Adam got nom and lost award to MJ.
What we have now. Bruno Mars spoiled, drug addicted American Industry baby was already chosen before Grammys officially announced Best Male Award.
But all of us continue to post the notes, become agressive more and more day by day!
Gurls, relax! Did anybody collect Adam Lambert Grammys Award Foundation as far it seems as our boy doesn't have any financial support from anybody including RCA/SONY?
Watch Red Carpet. Please, record it. I hate to watch it and wait when Adam will appear! Hopefully somebody will make a video!

Come on ya'all-I of course want our wonderful Adam to win--but stop picking on Bruno Mars. I just think it really does Adam no favors when the fans go in that direction.

Anon 6:38, you're right. I don't want to sound mean, but I just don't understand what's so exciting about Bruno Mars! His voice is so ordinary just like a lot of other singers out there in music industry. Adam is a real singer and performer with a lot of abilities that are still unknown! He has been praised by some of the biggest names in music history! No one deserves this award more than Adam. I don't say it just because I'm a huge fan, this is the truth!

Sure MTV - Mars is the complete package including Cocaine!

Just happy that Adam was nominated. We know he is the best and a win would be icing on the cake.

I don't think we're "picking on" the other nominees, but on the lack of perception of the people who feel those can sing as well as Adam.

I have listened to rock, southern rock, country, a lil' religious music, r&b, some rap, some, gaga, some, kesha, prince, etc, the thing is I feel real sorry for these other artists because Adam Lambert has made me forget everyone!
Adam is exciting in the way he sings, he talks to us when he sings. Adam is an entertainer, & there is no one out there like him. That's why he should win the grammy, Adam Lambert is one of a kind!

I'm a little confused here .... just how is Bruno Mars the 'complete' package ... what can/does he do that ADAM can't? Did he conceptualize & put together one of the most AMAZING & ENTERTAINING SOLD OUT World tours practically by himself like ADAM did(according to Lee Cherry) ... or stand up to a foreign government when they TRIED to cancel his show? Is his fan base composed of TODDLERS to SENIORS & everywhere IN-BETWEEN? Did he do 120 shows almost back-to-back without missing any (in some cases had to add more shows so as not to disappoint his fans) even when he didn't feel well & SING like that was the FIRST night in every single venue? I'm gonna stop now because I could go ON & ON .... so I ask you ... WHO is the **COMPLETE PACKAGE**???? Sorry! MTV ... go back to your drawing board & write another article ... I find this one sorely missing a few FACTS!!!
