I take our Adam's word that the Idol staff asked him how he wanted to address rumors and said it was up to him.....JAK

I am finding this perplexing since Adam Levine didn't even know who Adam Lambert was and was not familiar with the song one of the contestants chose to sing on The Voice. Now suddenly he's an authority on American Idol and what it allows and doesn't allow?

Anonymous said...

Adam Levine has a brother that is gay, so I guess since The Voice has openly gay singers, he wanted to "voice" his opinion. I think that a lot of it has to do with Adam Levine just wanting publicity. Like someone said earlier, he didn't even know the song "WWFM" or who sang it. I can't fault anything AI did in Season 8 especially because it gave us exposure to Adam Lambert. BTW, I'm now going to watch X Factor, and I'm giving up AI for good. I don't care for the show's direction anymore. Boring.

Anonymous said...

It looks like Levine just wanted publicity..We've heard all this before..Vote for Adam & Allison here- http://tweeter.faxo.com/american_idol_of_the_month/2011/08 this is one place Levine will never be!ha!

Adam has said on numerous occasions that He Chose Not to Say Anything. Where Levine came up with that - who knows? Who cares? Nigel's response was perfect imo. Why should we care? What does it have to do with anything? Why are gay people expected to make some kind of declaration? Should we all have to make a declaration?

I have a great idea. From now on as young people turn age 14 we will make them stand in a line before the great wizard and declare: gay, bi, straight. It can be our new rite of passage into our appropriate box. Geez.....Pam

@ 7:10 PM

Our Adam's Glamberts did stomp him pretty hard after his comment on The Voice....maybe he's trying to gain some goodwill with this statement.

Nigel said all the right things....I really don't side with either of them. However, I have been a little angry with Nigel for a couple years for telling one of my favorite dancers that he was afraid that his solo wasn't masculine enough and he thought he would be in trouble with the voters. That may have been true but you could see the hurt in the young man's face....JAK

old stuff. Nigel is pretty classy. I am looking forward to XFACTOR too, although I am pretty hooked on AI. It will be good to see Simon and Paula again. The same judges will be back on AI. Love Steven, he is a character.

Adam Levine seems to have the tendency to talk about things he doesnt know anything about.. Both the WWFM episode and now this. And both are related to Adam interestingly, although im pretty sure its by coincidence.

"Desiderata" Latin word, meaning "Things you wish"

Desiderata for Adam Lambert

Always express their song, the emotions dictate your heart and reason!

His music is always heard with the ears of the heart!

May your beautiful presence and charisma continue awakening excitement!

Your generosity and altruism, to provide inner happiness always!

That is really valued, changing many lives through his art and love!

That love, happiness, passion for what he loves, to accompany him forever!

Sister, thanks for your kind words, just admiration for Adam, I may dare to express myself, something he never imagined doing and less on the English language, I repeat my apologies for errors in translation, plus own that many, else syrupy with emotion. Always giving thanks to my official translator Fan4fun, generous and patient with me, I hope to continue to improve your health! Cordial greetings to you!

Well, Levine is definately giving himself a little publicity buzz over this. Nigel handled it well. As for AI and X Factor, I just don't know how excited I am anymore, although I being out of the loop about AI because so many people talk about it. Singing shows have kind of lost interest for me. My energies are concentrated on ADAM.

I do agree with Levine to some degree. While Idol may have told Adam he could address the issue anyway he wanted, the background stores were not as complete as The Voice. It's something about the overall atmosphere and image of Idol. Very very conservative. Adam and family were reluctant when pictures came out showing Adam smooching Cheeks, and he waited until the finale for his Rolling Stones. WHY?

You have to ask why since most of us already knew Adam was gay from the first moment he walked on stage. Why didn't they acknowledge Drake sitting in the audience. Bet they would do that on The Voice.

The Voice was refreshingly open. With the increased ages of the contestants, there was a maturity there along with the youth that dominated Idol this year.

So, while Levine irritates me at times, I do love Maroon5, and I think he nailed it on openness.

Anonymous said...

I liked Nigel's response but questioned his comment (if he was quoted accurately) about "if they want to be gay .. etc" Does he think it's a CHOICE?? If so, I question his feelings about gay people. JMHO -

They are two different programs, watch the one you like.Geesh.

Anonymous said...

@8.38pm - my thoughts exactly! (thanks for putting it so eloquently). I really don't think Adam Levine is the bad guy in all of this - he probably thinks that The Voice allows their contestants to be more open & honest from the start ... To me, the show is a little more "grown-up" though I do love Idol.

I think that Adam Levine is a okay guy maybe his oops on the voice triggered a stand with idol. I have to admit The Voice treated the contestants equal on that show. Idol well to be honest I only watched season 1 and season 8. I loved Kelly Clarkson from the beginning. I never thought Adam was treated different. Although i felt the finale was rigged but that's water under the bridge and I like Kris just no where near as much as Adam. The AMA's now that to me is the big issue on how they treat people!!! Maybe I am wrong

HH, I like the word, Desiderata. Latin seems to be a 'musical' language, but I hear it used mainly at Mass in Church. I started attending Mass in Latin and never understood what the priest at the altar was mumbling about, no intended offence. But I know this...Kyrie leison...Christe leison, which means Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy. Excuse my spellings. :)

I think after what happened at season 8 when Adam lost bec. he is gay, the Voice wanted theirs to be more open with everybody and we saw that mostly contestants were older indeed. It did click to the viewers so this Adam Levine is only using our Adam to promote the show itself..... A lot of them are hungry to get an attention to use Adam Lambert bec. he is the superstar indeed....

Since HH translates her words into English, I thought I would reciprocate by leaving her a post in Spanish. I doubt she will understand what I am saying. My Spanish is REALLY rusty. LOL. So here is what I intended to say, but not sure if this is actually what I said. HA!

I wanted to tell you that your poetry is so beautiful. Manificent. Thanks for sharing your heart's thoughts with us in English. And sweet words are perfect when speaking or writing about Adam, because Adam is the sweetest in the world - his voice, his personality and his soul. Simply perfect.

What you did is what I do, using a Spanish-English translator, the process is sometimes very long, once translated into English, translate it into Spanish, if you take another way or do not understand I have to start changing words or ideas to express what I want ...... Thanks to Adam, this process is a wonderful mental exercise for prolonged my youth!
Happy Night Sister, Thank you for your kind attention!

I continue to be humored by your posts.

Go all Adams! Screw the bullshit! Adam Levine isn't a bad guy. Just speaks before the brain configures a sentence.

Our Adam on the other hand, has a brain that works faster then most. Smart man! I mean SMART man!!!

AND a forgiving man. Remember, it's not that serious!

@8:38 pm
Not everybody thought he was gay when he step on stage....maybe it's my mindset but I was totally blown away by his voice and performances
and when Rolling Stone came out it didn't matter I was going to hear him sing not go to bed with him........

You are right I didn't know Adam was gay when he stepped on the idol stage. I loved his voice and performances. I remembered my friend would always disagree she was and still is a gokey fan. He wasn't my cup of tea. Anyways back to the topic. I loved Adam then and I love him now it never changed my opinion on him. Although this site is the only place I can really enjoy talking about Adam. Most people around me dislike him because he is gay, and that's so sad they are like that. I mean he is such a great talent and his voice and music should really be the issue not who he sleeps with?

Cheril said...

I never thought about Adam's sexuality on Idol until it was brought up in the media. I loved him for his singing ability -- which IS the point of the show Adam Levine. When rumors started I really could have cared less. I think Adam Levine sends a mixed message. On one hand he is taking up for the gay community but on the other he is attacking AI and that makes it suspect to pitting The Voice against AI for publicity. Not cool.

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one NOT aware of ADAM's orientation from Day 1. As a matter of fact it never entered my mind until Bill O'Reilly made an issue of it on his program & from that day on made an ENEMY of me for life. Even when ADAM confirmed it in RS ... I said .. so what ... so he's gay ... what does that have anything to do with the fact that he is the most Charismatic Vocal Genius I have ever heard & Gorgeous too? I LOVE ADAM *UNCONDITIONALLY* for being who he is & for showing me how to be a Better Me! Love 'n Light

If you didn't know Adam was 'gay' from the beginning of AI you must have been living on another planet. He never hid anything, he was who he was. There was no need to advertise because it was no biggy.

Adam Levine is a nitwit. Go figure his OUT magazine picture!

@tess4ADAM, What did Bill O'Reilly say? Not that I want to bring up old stuff but somehow I missed that.

Anonymous said...

@Anon 4:39, Bill Oreilly did a short segment on how there were quote *embarrassing* photos of Adam kissing a guy, and whether America would vote for him. This was when they were up to like top 10 already, so people had been voting for Adam for like a month already but Bill Oreilly didnt even know that. The panels were ok tho, as they were saying Adam was talented and shouldnt be judged based on his sexuality and pointed out to him that ppl have been already voting for ADam. Its really retarded that they even did a segment on this but its FOX news, what would you expect...

Just want to put my two cents in, I think Adam Levin is full of himself and that automatically turns me off. But I have to agree about the Voice being so much more open minded than AI. On the Voice they show the contestants friends, family and loved ones. On idol they only show loved ones of the straight contestants.

We saw Drake several times. He didn´t carry a sign saying "I´m Adam´s boyfriend" but we saw him with Leila and Eber. We didn´t see Ebers girlfriend though. She was put aside so the camera wouldn´t catch her. This is a family show. Only REAL families allowed.

Where and when a person decides to "come out" is his or her own business. I'd say that it is the media, particularly shows like TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, etc., that tends to focus on speculation about someone's sexuality. It's like a shark feed. One of the worst offenders with the speculation on Clay Aiken was Jay Leno. He never missed a chance to infer something about Clay and make fun of him. Sort of made me wonder what secrets Jay himself was harboring. This was before Clay even came out to his own family. That's just wrong. Adam has said that he was not allowed to do interviews during Idol, and that he didn't want the competition to be about his sexuality anyway. I think even now the sexuality thing always seems to take precedence over the talent and music. It's a pity, but that's the way it is. I also think there are many contradictions about that on both sides of the aisle. If it's about the music, then focus on the music, not the sexual preference.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:25. Amy Wallen was indeed on screen during Idol as well as Neil, Eber, Leila, and friends from Wicked who came to the show. The same ones weren't there every week, but there was no discrimination camer wise. I saw them all. I don't know where you were looking, but I think your conclusion has no merit. And since we didn't know Amy then, why would her presence there one way or the other lead to any conclusion?

I'm Anon 7:08 I am not getting my point across, I know the cameras showed Drake with Adams family and his friends but when they featured Adam and his parents you didn't see any mention of his boyfriend and I do remember reading that they wanted Kris to hide the fact that he was married, so all the young girls would think he was available, kudos to Kris for not doing that. By not mentioning that Drake was Adams boyfriend at the time makes it seem like that is wrong and therefore should be hidden. I know we have a long way to go but at least the Voice is giving equal opportunity to their gay contestants and stating who their boyfriends or girlfriends are just as they do the straight contestants. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY, is what I'm trying to state, I know I haven't done such a good job of it. Sorry. JMO.

Anonymous said...

@ Eva,

There were few occassions that they showed Ebers girlfriend during the show.

I saw some of it from youtube.

Anonymous said...

They usually just showed friends and family briefly in the audience. Should they have had arrows over Drakes head pointing to him with a sign ADAM'S boyfriend here. For sexuality being no big deal I think The Voice is going out of their way to make a big deal out of it.ratings, ratings, ratings one and all.

@Anon 8:04AM
This is what Amy Wallen wrote in an article:
"Why Sleeping with Adam Lambert’s Dad Is Too Complicated"
It´s a long article so I just quote this little piece:
...."when one of the American Idol directors grabbed my arm and pulled me out of a camera view of a “family shot” with the explanation, “Amy, I leave my conscience at home for this job,”

Eva

Anonymous said...

Eva maybe they just wanted a picture of Adam with his mom and dad.I think that is allowed too.Leave the long suffering girlfriend for another time.

Anonymous said...

Without Adam being successful on the music scene, no others would have the courage to stand on stage so openly. It is amazing after almost 3 yrs, people still using his sexuality for attention.

The Dark Side said...

Nigel can give any spin he wishes, but the fact is Idol wants that sqeaky clean image. Why else would they lead people to think that Liela and Eber were still married, which they did. Even divorce would seem to be a subject they don't touch. I truly never cared what Adam's orientation was, but felt it was going to hurt him and it did. People are still asking how did he lose Idol? Duh? btw would honesty have helped. In that 2009 climate, no..today maybe.

I never knew anything about adam levine until the voice and then he did an interview a few weeks back with pierce morgan on cnn ( I twittered pierce to have adam Lambert on BTW)Anyway, I have mixed feelingws on this, I think Adam levine is sexy and his heart is in the right place with this, however I do think it a publicity stunt and who knows maybe he's relized what a fierce group us glamberts are and is tryin to make amends in some strange way. I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

If I have one complaint about Idol it is the back stories that they choose. I wish they would stick with the contestant's music training and background rather than the family background and other crap that is meant to tug at our heartstrings. That is if they think they are a "singing competition". Also remember that on both shows, the American people are voting. And look who won on both shows.

Anonymous said...

@The Dark Side (August 20, 2011 11:19 AM ), I agree with with you... My relative was surprised when I told her that Adam Lambert's parents are divorced. American Idol really gave the impression that they were still married. e.g the interview they did together when it was the episode of "birthyear".

Anonymous said...

If you want a true talent contest then there should be no backstories, no family shots, nothing that would bring in emotional voting. Just contestants marching out and singing or dancing.
Then the winner would be the best in the eyes and ears of the viewers. Unfortunately there would probably be no producers willing to shell out money for such a show. It would not bring in advertisers..no commercials..no show.

So, what we have is what we will continue to have, it's what people will watch..........or in many cases give up watching......JAK

Anonymous said...

I agree with the previous comment. AI did give the impression that Adam's parents were married since they did that interview together. It wasn't until later that I read they were divorced; I know absolutely nothing about Eber's ladyfriend or if Adam's mom is seeing someone. And it doesn't really matter. They have supported Adam both emotionally and monetarily(at times) and his mom seems to be there at many social functions or events with Sauli and Adam. The kind of parents they are has made Adam the person he is today because of their love, understanding, and support.

Anonymous said...

But Idol relented when Adam and Sauli held hands on the AI red carpet; possibly because they needed Adam to sing Aftermath to raise funds for the Trevor Project. It was a first I believe for two guys holding hands on the AI red carpet.

The only impression I got about ANY of the people in the AI audience is that they were there to support their contestant. The flash of those people in the audience was so momentary that it was hard to distinguish who was who, and that goes for Kris's family and friends as well as Adam's or anyone else's. And why would it matter to anyone whether there was a divorce. They are still parents who share a child. Other contestants had supporters who were not part of their families and no one thought about whether THEY were girlfriends of the parent. Why must conspiracy be read into anything involving Adam?
