I liked the comments made about history. Homosexuals and bisexuals have played a huge part of world history from the beginning of recorded time. Aristotle, Socrates, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Oscar Wilde, da Vinci, Marlene Dietrich, Richard the Lion Hearted, Walt Whitman, Tennessee Williams, Montgomery Clift, Ian Richardson, Joan Baez, Michelangelo, Tchaikovsky, Cole Porter, Nathan Lane, Jodie Foster and millions of others, including several Popes and the head of the Han dynasty in ancient China. If history books removed them all the pages would look as holey as swiss cheese........don't our current laws seem a bit strange since same sex love was a common accepted fact for centuries?.............JAK

My goodnes JAK, you sure know your homosexuals and bisexuals. I am proud of you. Never know when that info might win you a big prize. LOL ha ha ha ha

Very enlightening comment Jak, thanks!

Wonder if all the families with their children in costumes dancing in the Nutcracker suite for their Christmas programs know this. I used to think Chopin was gay until i realized that George Sand (his lover) was just a pen name for a woman...

@ LP

My brain is a file cabinet of trivia, I find ALL SORTS of things interesting. It's a blessing and a curse....but I'll admit I always win first prize in trivia contests on cruise ships! It's always a bottle of champagne....which I don't drink! Husbands happy though!......JAK :)

@JAK You are an amazing person. So happy always to see you intelligent and witty posts here.Wow I just got a history lesson thanks! Tell the cruise lines you would rather get some cash for a prize lol

oops your not you intelligent posts. Made me sound dumb huh.

JAK you covered some of the big names :) Great comment. It's like we've regressed--at least in this country.

just voted again on the AIOTM page for Adam & Allison( have been voting for her all along, also)sure wish we'd get some more votes tonight..Adam was less than 100 votes behind Abrams once today, but now,I think he may be closer to 200 behind,or may be soon when the ones who were voting stop.If you're on the west coast,or it's not so late in the zone you're in, try to get in a few votes tonight, please. We just want Adam to pass C Abrams,& get on the first row;not trying to get him to #1 or anything.Last mo.,he ended up in 3rd or 4th place..just so it's on the top row,ok?We have no other heavy voting to do now after all that DSA voting.I know so many tried very hard for Adam-me,too!! url- http://tweeter.faxo.com/american_idol_of_the_month/2011/08

@ 8:17 PM

There were suspicions that George Sand (real name Amantine Dupin) shared her "favors" freely.
She had many male lovers and an actress BFF to whom she wrote passionate love letters???
All kinds of hanky panky going on in Europe in those days. Something....inspired Chopin!...JAK

JAK, it wasn't until recently that I realized how many great songwriters were gay. I was always puzzled by the poetic lyrics of these men..and now it makes sense. I didn't find that "poetic " sensitivity in my brothers or my husband. For example, I remember one time I told my husband he was as handsome as the day I met him. His response: "So are you." See what I mean? He also likes what the actor Robert Mitchum told his wife,"Stick with me baby, and you'll be farting in silk". I love this guy though...just grateful for the lyrics Adam writes...

Not exactly silk....but life is good. We spend more time laughing than griping. He remains my true love and best friend - and I'm glad I stuck with him!

Whoa JAK, quite an impressive list of great influential people you have there. To bring it up to speed into the 21st century, you'd have to add in Adam Lambert who is flying that special flag so proudly leading the pack!

Just read your Mitchum quote...so funny...he was a goldmine of discovery. Mine and my husband's favorite naughty boy of old Hollywood. In the 70's he agreed to be interviewed by David Frost on TV for 90 minute program........it was must viewing. He'd met his wife when they were 16 and 14 and had a long long marriage,Frost asked him
"What's made your marriage work?"

Mitchum said "Oh, I don't know, I think we have each continued to believe that the other will do better tomorrow"....My husband and I added that to our list of reasons to stay married. Up to that point, other than our obvious mad love for each other, we had avoided splitting up with our own motto made during our children's hissy=fit days...."Whoever asks for a divorce has to take the kids!" That ones still in effect though the kids are now hovering around 50!.........JAK

Great comment. Hubby and I were talking about the past last night. He is a history guy and like you, a movie guy. He was in many Italian movies, as was his mom. It use to be way back that blacks, women, and all could vote, all peeps had equal rights. Hubby concluded with "Man can screw up a wet dream". Gays have been around for centuries. Many kings, etc always had a male and female on hand for their pleasure.

Hubby did say he was in Finland (he was in Italian Navy) and that Finland is one of the most social countries. They let people live as they are, no judging. Think I will move to Finland.

The world would have been seriously deprived of some amazing life changing Art and Science if some The Greats JAK mentioned would have been Outlawed.

Even our common dearest friend Jesus can't take my sense of humor away. His Father gave it to me as a blessing. Ha!

Icon is under the wonderful care of aunt Esther. I miss him but I don't worry.

I wonder when your husband and mother in law were working in Italian films....did they ever work with Sophia Loren (Sofia Scicolone)? When I was too young to know better, I was stunned when she was pursued by Cary Grant and Carlo Ponti and she chose Carlo!!!! ....JAK

Anonymous said...

@JAK

Yes, hubby was in a movie with Sophia Loren, he had to pinch her butt, in turn, she slapped his face. He said he made sure the "take" had to be re done several times, because he loved pinching her butt, even if his face hurt. It had to be in the mid 50's the hubby was in films. His mom did if for much longer. Hubby has had real interesting life, I got him at 38yrs old and kind of on the dull side. He did take me to Italy, we went twice.
Carlo could do more for her career and he wasn't competition. Hubby and his mom met and knew many stars. You would love talking with hubby, you both share the same interest.

@ P.A.S.

Then I probably saw your husband, I remember her slapping a few guys in movies and dumping a martini on a guy's head in the film Houseboat!
Your husband and I would probably enjoy a game of "do you remember"???

On my first trip to Italy I had my butt pinched in the crowd outside the Coliseum. I am very much a "hands off" kind of person, but since I was 45 at the time, I took it as a compliment.
Those Italian men are rascals!...^o^...JAK
