New Interview: Adam Lambert Says He Won't Get Married

Adam Lambert did a new interview with US Magazine:

Now that gay marriage is legal in NY state, everybody is placing bets on which gay celebrities will be hopping on a plane to say their vows there. But take your money off of Adam Lambert! Us Weekly talked with the openly gay pop star and American Idol alum about his new episode of VH1 Behind The Music (premiering this Sunday, August 7, at 10 p.m.) and squeezed in a question about his new boyfriend, Sauli Koskinen. Here's what the infamously open Lambert had to say about marriage for himself.

US: Why did you decide to take part in VH1 Behind the Music?

AL: I have seen previous episodes and it has always been something I have been interested in. I did not have any doubts about doing the show because I had previously done E! True Hollywood Story, which was more biographical. This episode focuses more on my music.

US: What will we see in the episode?

AL: The episode will portray a deeper, more personal view of my life. I was not always happy go lucky and things weren't always easy. At times things were difficult and confusing. Coming out of American Idol I was thrown into the spotlight so quickly and I faced many obstacles. I am finally starting to feel comfortable in this industry and in my own skin. The fans will get to see how I feel. There wasn't anything that was off limits for this episode because I am pretty open with my fans. I spoke about a lot.

US: What obstacles have you faced on your journey of becoming an entertainer?

AL: I haven't really faced many obstacles. I had a great, easy upbringing. I came out of the closet at eighteen and my family was supportive of me. I participated in numerous extracurricular activities and I was involved in the arts, which was an understanding environment. The only thing I found difficult was when I had to audition for the part of a romantically involved straight man because I had a hard time feeling comfortable and understanding the role. On the episode I talk about my experimentation with drugs but it didn't really affect my career in any way.

US: Do you think your sexual orientation has affected your career?

AL: It has caused controversy and at first I got nervous. This is a tricky career path, especially since most musicians aren't as open as I am. At first I thought, did I go too far? Was this a mistake? I realized I have to trust my gut and be myself. I can't please everyone.

US: What is your relationship like with boyfriend Sauli Koskinen? Any marriage plans yet?

AL: I don't like to talk about my relationship so if you see pictures of us out to dinner together, then great! I don't see myself getting married in the future.

US: When will we hear new music from you?

AL: I have been busy in the studio writing and recording so that has been taking up most of my time. I have had a lot of time to reflect on my journey. I have learned and grown and evolved. I am proud of the strides I've made. I am thinking the album will be out in the fall.

US: Can you describe the material on your upcoming album?

AL: This album is different in that is has a more serious tone. There is definitely fun, upbeat music on there too. This album has a thread of honesty in that it is real and personal. On this album I let people in further. It is an autobiographical album that portrays my dreams and aspirations. There are also some songs that deal with heartache and love. Whereas my old album was fun, campy, and over the top, this album is more contemporary and honest. The last album was more of a fantasy and this album is a search for my identity.

US: Any upcoming plans?

AL: I will be in New York recording the album. Lately I have had more involvement with different sociopolitical campaigns like The Trevor Project and Do Something. There is a quote in the VH1 Behind the Scenes special where I say, "I feel like I am an entertainer, not a politician." Beforehand I was leery about commenting on certain things but I am now more comfortable voicing my opinion on issues like marriage equality.

Marriage or no marriage, their relationship is still the same. Adam has found a man he can love and who obviously loves him back. Good for them!

Adam's parents are divorced, so are Sauli's parents. If I remember right Adam has said a long time ago that marriage isn't for him. So this is nothing new or against Sauli in any way. Marriage is not for everyone.

This marriage part is only one question in that interview and still it makes the headlines. I think more important is what Adam is telling about his music and the new album.

Anonymous said...

So now we know the reason Adam is in NYC:to record his second album. He is always so honest and revealing in his interviews. Adam really holds nothing back except information about his relationships and that's the way it should be. Certain aspects of his personal life deserve to remain private. It seems we all know so much about him already from previous interviews, twitter and his Q and A sessions. I love his new look; it goes along with all the new things in his life including Sauli and the new album. I think we are seeing a more mature Adam, very introspective and just so much more comfortable with who he is. Looking forward to Behind the Music this Sunday night and, of course, the second album some time this fall.

@Anon 11:16

I agree completely. Marriage, or not, is his business. The music should be foremost in our conversation with the upcoming album being released soon. I am just happy that he has found someone to love and to love him. Marriage is just another label. Some want to be married others not. Personal choice. Now, back to listening to Outlaws of Love for the 1,257th time! LOL

I said I would never marry and here I am 5 kids and two divorces later. lol goodluck Adam do watcha wanna do and you can change your mind 100x's if you so desire.

I am very excited about the VH1 behind the music, Adam mention it will be more about the music, hope the US get it right this time, ADAM and THE MUSIC!
The marriage part : Adam is serious in love with Sauli, it is impossible for them to get marry under the US federal law now. The future? Who know? He probably mean, if I cannot get marry with Sauli, I don't see myself getting marry in the future at all. Sound like that to me.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Adam and Sauli has discussed the subject. Sauli isn't for marriage either.

In the end of this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfBKkvW1Iu8

Sauli tells that he will never get married, he will never date a woman and he'll never have children.

The Dark Side said...

Yeah, never say never usually backfires. Don't really see Adam getting married. Besides I like what Eminem said about gay marriage. They should be allowed to marry and be as miserable as everyone else. LOL Why spoil a good thing. Thinking music, and not much else.

Anonymous said...

I know a lot of people who have lived happily together for years, many for decades and have no plans of ever getting married. It's a personal choice for everyone. I feel like Adam and Sauli's relationship is very strong and they have made a commitment to each other. They're young and maybe after a few years together, they may feel differently about marriage, who knows. But it's their choice and nobody else's. I'm happy knowing that Adam is in a loving relationship and seems happier than ever.

glitzylady said...

Lots of discussion re this on previous 2 threads as well before this was posted as a thread topic. Who knows what will happen in the future..I think it was Adam's way of saying "It's really none of your business." And it isn't. And its too early to even consider what will happen in the future. Things and attitudes evolve as lives change and relationships deepen. Marriage may be an option for them someday, or not..but whether they ever get to the point of considering it, it matters not in the least to me. I'm just glad marriage equality is becoming an option at all, for those who choose to do so. I'm just celebrating their present happiness..as they are as well. May the media leave them alone regarding any discussion of their relationship. They are in love..Good enough for me. Beautiful .....and private.

Speaking of Adam and Sauli, AND Adam's new song "Outlaws of Love", this seems a good place to post this beautiful "plaque" that @AdamsWench on Twitter posted earlier today..She wanted it to passed on and shared with others, so here it is: I think it's beautifully done:

Playboys don't get married. Money, Cars, and Melrose. who needs marriage!

Anonymous said...

Adam will never get married, looks at women and probably wants children. who knows?

Anonymous said...

Sauli won't date women and Adam is curious about women. that is very interesting!

Anonymous said...

I remember Adam being on a TV Show a few months ago called The Talk. They asked for some audience questions for Adam and one of the ladies asked if he would like to be a father some day to which he replied, "yes, I would like that if I can find someone to love and share my life with". So who knows what the future hold? People may change their minds, or not. I just want Adam to be happy however he chooses to do it.

August 2, 2011 12:42 PM stop mocking Sauli.

Anonymous said...

The millions are coming and so will the excesses. Fast cars, fast womaen, booze and all that goes with being a rockstar. He's living the life. Stay away from marriage.

Anonymous said...

Just leave Adams BF alone please????? Adam is happy and that is the most important right???

He makes Adam happy and we all happy that's it!!!

Respect their privacy....

Anonymous said...

August 2, 2011 11:32 AM , Sauli did say all that and may as well mean it, but it's good to remember he was drunk on that time & it was 2007 anyway. Who knows what he wants now when he has found love and have grown up. :)

I understand the interviewer was also interested about the marriage thing, but don't you think it would be too early to even ask such a thing? They've been together since November or so, so not even one year.

I'm so happy for Adam and Sauli, and respect their desicion to keep their relationship as their own business. Of course it would be lovely to hear more about them two, but hey, Adam has opened his life whole lot to all of his fans and is going to do it even more when the album is released. Im so looking forward to it!!

Love you Adam, and Sauli too. Have fun in LA, and be sure we in Finland love you & are really proud of you!!

August 2, 2011 1:12 PM , remember Sauli was already celebrity here in Finland before meeting Adam. In USA things (like being well known) are bigger than in here, but he has chosen this life and it's alright for people to be interested of him & Adam :)

Equality of marriage laws are still far away in this country...even though same sex marriage is legal in a few states and those couples benefit from state laws..........The Federal government is another story. Under DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) of 1996 there are many hundreds of benefits still denied to the couples who so happily married in NYC recently.

Denied..joint Fed. tax returns
Denied..federal health plans for spouses
Denied..access to spouse's Fed. pensions,
........survivor benefits and Social Sec.
etc. etc.

Pres. Obama is backing a bill to overturn DOMA,
is anyone surprised he's meeting with fire-
breathing opposition?

Perhaps it's your representatives to Congress!
My state is saying "NO NO NO". Idiots!

Maybe Adam just figures if it's not real, it's not worth it!

Anonymous said...

People forget that Adam has never said he loves Sauli. I don't think Sauli has ever said he loves Adam either, so alot of this marriage talk was just based on fantasy to begin with. Adam did mention 'being in love' but he didn't say with whom. Adam could easily have other lovers for all we know. He's a hot single gay man who is free to do whatever he wants.

What makes people think they know everything Adam does in his private life when there's no cameras around? None of us really "know" anything at all and people should stop acting like they can read his mind.

Anonymous said...

I thought when we saw Adams BF from the Ste. Agathe Concert, people are all happy seeing them together???? Now, when Adam just mentioned about marriage, the air gets dirty towards them???? Why all the hates and jealousy??? For once, please let them be????

We need to give them some space and let them be happy together. Life is too short my gosh!!! Just get along and ROCK ok??

Anonymous said...

@ 1:26 PM AMEN!!! You rock he!he!

Anonymous said...

Adam: Stay single and mingle! Sometimes mingle for a long time! I know close friends of mine who aren't married are happier, younger, have better jobs, travel whenever they want to and meet a lot of people.

Anonymous said...

August 2, 2011 1:26 PM , Adam has tweeted "Rakastan" (I love in finnish) after starting to date Sauli, and it would be pretty odd if it meant something else than Sauli. I think that was pretty clear message. After that Adam has said being in love and being happy with his relationship, and him and Sauli has been spotted in many place together & Sauli probably even lives in Adam's apartment. Idea of Adam dating other guys at the same time is pretty bizarre. He has always been open and honest about he's life to his fans, he has shown his love to Sauli in many ways. Look at the picture above. He took Sauli to red carpet, to his concert, to vacations, to meet his mom...

Adam is clearly happy and that should be enough for us. That kind of idea is far-fetched if you ask me :) I know you meant its he's freedom to choose to do whatever he wants, but his actions are already telling what he wants. Imo.

Anonymous said...

Adam has said he is in love - that is the word rakastan. And Sauli lives with him - I doubt that he has a variety of other lovers right now.
Anyway,it's none of our business.

Anonymous said...

If marriage doesn't mean anything, why was everyone so overjoyed when some places made it legal for gay people?

Adam has done the single and mingle life for many years. It can start to wear out after a while.

August 2, 2011 1:41 PM AGREED !!!!!

Boy, do we love to pick things apart till they're shredded! These guys are dating and really care for each other. Lots of famous straight couples live together for years and never marry. Fans love to speculate and gossip about it. It's part of being a fan. We care. I just want Adam to be happy in the long run with the person he loves. Might be Sauli, might not. Adam has said he doesn't want to grow old alone. Who does?

Adam behaves like a great star, like a god in the eyes of mmny of his fans. He is domuinant, HE tells in public, how HE will live his life.

I just ask, why had he to tell at all about his futue marriage plans, his "private life" in public? Looks like he doesn´t care, what the readers think or doesn´t think think and care, what f.ex. the Finnish press will write. And this is so "open and honest"!
"Adam Lambert doesn´t want to marry Sauli" is today´s haadline in the Finnish newspaper, where Saulis blogs and his Tutka-program are published. Looks like Sauli had made proposals and got put down. One can only imagine, what kind of "support" and services Adam makes Sauli in his work and attempts to earn his living in a foreign country.

I am a Finn, not joking and not mocking Sauli, why should I. But I agree with 12:42: Come home Sauli! Don´t be Adam´s, the playboy´s, toyboy anymore!

Anonymous said...

August 2, 2011 2:12 PM You´re not Finnish, so stop faking.
If You´re a true Glambert You´ll accept Their happiness.
I don´t see any reason Sauli to go back to Finland because he Loves Adam and Adam loves him.( Sauli )
In every thread You´re constantly mocking Sauli. It means that You have very serious mental issues to be solved.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:50- I certainly hope that with Adam's further success in the music industry that he does not fall into the pattern of the excesses with the millions, fast cars, the booze, wild nights, multiple partners and partying. We have seen it all too often and once again with the lead singer of Kings of Leon perhaps falling into that mire of excess. Hopefully Adam's family and friends and management will keep him grounded so he can enjoy his success and live a long, happy, and productive life. At this time Adam seems very happy with Sauli, more mature, and focused on this second album. Whether he stays in a committed relationship, gets married, has children....all this is speculation and only time will tell what the future will hold for Adam.

Sad but Adam is looking for the sun...until the time that all is acceptable and fair I doubt he and Sauli would marry, but they can live together and be a couple like many people do. He loves Sauli and he has said so. He also wants that part of his life to be private. Can you blame him. Adam gives us glimpses when he wants to. As it should be. He is in control. It is his and Sauli's life after all. Happy for them both.

Adam doesn't have a fortune! That 6 million was before Federal tax and before commissions and who knows what else? He had no sponsers for his tour and paid for many things himself, so he may have gotten around 2 million. In L.A. that makes you able to pay your bills, but not rich! You know he only rents a house and drives a car he was given during American Idol. His wardrobe is recycled endlessly, he's still wearing clothes from 2009 frequently. If Sauli is after money he could do much better!............JAK

Anonymous said...

Matt Bomer from WHITE COLLAR never talks about anything in his personal life during an interview. I have read that he is gay, is involved in a personal relationship and may even have chilren. This is all speculation since you never read a word about him from him anywhere. Adam has appeared with Sauli on the red carpet and they have been seen together, but that is all he has to give the public. He doesn't have to profess his love, do an interview about any relationship just to satisfy the fans or the media. Unfortunately the price one pays for success and fame is often the lack of privacy in one's personal life. That's just the way it is. (And if Sauli is after Adam's Money, I think Adam would know that, don't you?) Overall Adam seems to be handling all this very well and he is entitled to get angry, being asked the same ridiculous questions over and over.Let him be happy and enjoy the point where he is in his life and career right now. Let's just focus on Adam and the music esp. the second album about to be released this fall.

@anon 8:20Pm FYI I read about Matt Bomer a lot. He never like to answer on the questions about his sexuality. Yes, you can find the pictures of him with three children. But he never said that these are his children. I would be happy for Matt if I would find that he is family man and has three children. But I saw Matt's pictures without the children but kissing the man.
I just think that Adam and Matt match perfectly. They are amazing, bright, have a great personality, and kill many women in US by their sex appeal!
Sorry, I know that Adam likes Sauli but I don't think Sauli can impress women like Adam or Matt! Thy are delicious!!!!!
By the way, I hope that in this relationship with Sauli Adan will not have to write the song like "In The Lap Of the Gods" by Queen;)

Sauli has been working in Finland also in his father's firm. How do you know he's living off other people's money? HOw do you know he does not have any savings? Oh yeah, you don't know it. A common belief here is that US magazine's retort to Adam's tweet set the record straight, because their interview tape proved Adam did not say what he claimed to have meant. I've given this a lot of thought...

When Adam said he didn't want to talk about relationships, then shares anyway, it was just to placate. Unfortunately, in the story, "near" was omitted as qualifier to the "future", and Adam was quick on the tweet to correct the statement. The US magazine was just as quick with the retort, saying that it was Adam, and not they who erred.

If Adam meant to say that he did not want to marry Sauli or anyone else, the sentence would have ended with "I don't see myself getting married." Period. Appending "in the future" to the statement is not only superfluous; it doesn't make a lot of sense to add because, after all, when, except the future, would Adam be referring to? Besides, the English pattern of speech would not use the phrase "in the future" after a statement of supposition. Which is why I believe that the omission was made not by Adam but by the magazine, deliberately.

Given that Adam is a kind, sensitive man, newly in love, meticulous in speech and diction, and in light of the recent victories in same sex marriage, it is inconceiveable that this did not happen: that Adam did not catch and correct a cavalier confession right then and there; and that the interviewer did not react somehow, like, "Adam, no marriage at all?" All of which made me kind of suspicious of the magazine's story.

Here's my take on the whole kerfuffle: when Adam tweeted his correction of the interview, the magazine defended its story by getting creative with the tape (how hard is it electronically delete a word), and a simple interview got a lot more traction and attraction.

Sauli, however, gave Adam the last laugh tweeting something about having to give up the white wedding dress. atm

Your comments are so useless. Sauli does not read them, you know. He has told people not to read comments of senseless people because it only matters that you know what and who you are and get along with yourself. You can say here anything and it does not affect in his life. Your thoughts are thoughts of a mean person who only manages to hurt Adam-fans who understand that Adam's private life is only his. But, on the other hand it's easy to scroll these kind of comments which are only provocative. But must say that I'm always as surprised how jealous and mean people there are on this earth. This Sauli-rage arises every time (now almost 9 months already); always the same comments (same persons?) when there is something about him, but as said he does not care a bit.

And for your information: Sauli gets paychecks and I have heard that he pays taxes to USA. There are jobs and jobs. Maybe you don't have one or don't like yours. It's a matter of choice.

If you see him as a skunk, then he is in your eyes a skunk. I think that this skunk would only laugh to you if you said that to him face to face.

I so agree with you. Because I'm ready to give up reading these comments, I will not use a tag. But in the future (I'll lurk sometime), if that is required, I will have one in hope the comments will have more sense than in these days.

To all those people saying mean things about Sauli, I would like to say, "Grow up, get a life of your own!". You can't live other people's lives. How do you know what Adam has bought him? Are you Sauli's bookkeepers and know how much he has earned in past years? etc. etc. You don't trust Adam can choose his partners, so you are ready to make choice and say "This guy is better(looking) and has a job. Take him!" OMG, how ridiculous! Those saying these things must be very young or insane.

I hope there will be change in this site so that you have to log in or register. It's easier to catch people who are just provocative. As Jadam said so much of this stuff is "endless drivel".

No seriously, dude needs to go get a job! What is it he does when he wakes up??! What radio station is it you guys are talking about? What time slot? Which show? exactly!!
Everything Sauli "does" is in Finland. How convenient!
First he's a blogger, now a journalist and suddenly works for a firm. Make up your damn minds!
And I do agree with most here, he is a skunk dressed in gold! LOL!

I can't understand that either. Poor Adam has to deal with Sauli the hobo! When will that loser get a job?
How could he be ok with living off of Adam's money?
Its ridiculous.
