"Gender roles are flexible, varying from culture to culture. As some entertainers such as Adam Lambert bend gender, the outer edges of gender acceptability are challenged and changed."

Bending gender! Wow, has he ever done that. Has any other openly gay man ever had such cross appeal? I think not. Adam is making history and will continue to do so just by living his life honestly and proudly. I'm not sure he even understands what a significant role is is playing in changing our culture. We love him for his magical vocals, personality and showmanship on stage, but his influence on our society will be profound.

I am wondering why his Dad is not touching this and supporting him like his Mother obviously is. He is visibly absent from any kind of outward support of Adam in this regard.
Shame.

I've believed for a long time that Adam was destined for greatness, with music his vehicle to draw attention to making significant, positive changes in the world. I think he's now realizing how much he can make a difference and how powerful his actions and words have become. It's not what he was seeking,as music is his first love, but I think his life has become more meaningful and satisfying as a result.

Adam sure is making some serious headway into a very sensitive issue. Now he is invading textbooks as well. He is an inspirational, positive role model with regard to this difficult stumbling block...inequalities based on gender and sexual orientation. Adam voices it gently and sometimes with his enchanting voice, sings to highlight this imbalance. Most importantly, he lives it. And so people especially the young and vulnerable are able to identify with him and also see the positive outcomes achieved just by being true and honest to oneself as opposed to hiding behind a false facade. They become more emboldened, enlightened and therefore in a stronger position to fight off bullies, be it in school or at work. Directly or indirectly, Adam saves lives. Including him in textbooks is a very very positive step forward in educating people on this social discord.

I don't think that its fair to say Adam's dad Eber doesn't support Adam "outwardly". Perhaps he is not as "visible" and outspoken in the media as of late as Leila has been. She has chosen to be more vocal and visible: perhaps Eber chooses to be involved in other ways. They just have different ways of showing their support. Eber is less visible and less "public", at least to the national media.. In my opinion that doesn't make him any less of a fabulously supportive parent. I have no doubt that he does his part. Who are we to say he does not... I know for a fact that he has done speaking engagements here and there, speaking about being the parent of a Gay son. Leila works for Adam, and is more visible in PFLAG, etc. Not only that, Adam's parents are divorced and lead separate lives, so do not necessarily become involved in the same organizations and activities, although its hard to say..Maybe they do for all we know.. Really none of our business. Eber has appeared in various TV programs, such as VH1's Behind the Music and E! Hollywood Story. He was very supportive of Adam during Idol and attended the tapings. He was and is a loving parent. He has gone to Adam's concerts, including the last 2 LA shows..I know that because I sat right behind him both times (totally by coincidence). His pride in Adam was obvious by the look on his face. None of us actually know Adam or his family, so I honestly don't think we should be critical of them, because we don't know what they actually do, behind the scenes. Eber and Leila did a fine job providing a safe and loving home for Adam as he grew up. There is no reason to criticize either of them. I think they are true role models.

No Shame at all.

glitzylady ....

I support everything you said. Eber may prefer to be a less visible behind-the-scenes parent. Adam is THE STAR, not his parents and they also have another son, Neil to consider. I think they're all doing a mighty fine job supporting Adam as they do. There is absolutely NO SHAME at all attached to Adam's family.

I saw a tweet yesterday too that had a picture of Adam in a textbook, and it wasn't this one. So that makes 2...

Adam has been out having dinner, was spotted by comedian Maggie Klaus (?), who sent several tweets, and said bice things including, he is hotter in person, had margaritas on the rocks, was wearing skinny black jeans, HIGH hair, sexy eye make up and HOT... was later seen in a bar where he bumped into Christina A and they apparently had a chat. Heres a pic from the bar, agree with Maggie, looking very hot.

How rude and ignorant to make such a comment about Adam's father and I hope Adam doesn't read it. It's NONE OF OUR BUSINESS what Adam's father does, nor any member of his family. Adam tweeted at one stage that people think they know what happens in his private life but they don't (or words to that effect). There are some who believe the world revolves 'round Adam 24/7 but it doesn't. People have have their own lives to live. Let's support Adam without commenting re what his parents and his brother should or should not be doing.

Don't you go knocking Eber!
Oz loves Eber. He is a lovely guy
who raised a likewise lovely couple of intelligent lovely son's.

OMG Adam is a clone of Eber. You disrespect Eber, you disrespect Adam! Likewise for Leila too.
Shame on you people, how low can you sink?

@funbunn40 Beautifully said. Adam certainly has influenced many peoples lives in such a positive way by living his life honestly. As for Eber I think he has been a great dad to Adam. Adam is so lucky to have supportive and loving parents. Had he not he wouldn't be the wonderful person he is today!

Adam's name has appeared in a least one novel, too, remember? He is clearly recognized as somewhat culturally significant. I think his influence will grow over time. He chooses to live his life so honestly. His influence will be profound. AND, I'M GLAD THEY CHOSE A GOOD PICTURE FOR ONCE! Sometimes, they choose the strangest, most unflattering pics of Adam. As for Eber, he has been an incredibly supportive father. I remember Adam saying in an interview several years ago that his dad told him (when Adam was feeling pretty low) to hang in there. His time for recognition would come. And it has! Eber is behind the scenes more than Leila, but equally supporting Adamm all the way. Glad to see Adam out and about. Nice to know he spoke with Christiana A. Maybe he'll get his wish to sing with her sometime.

Anyone who would knock Eber Lambert for not adequately supporting Adam certainly hasn't bothered to check for facts before making that assumption. There is certainly plenty of evidence all over the internet to disprove it. Obviously someone is just poking a stick into the hornet's nest.

I just want to point out that only one comment was negative toward Eber: the rest were positive.

Are you anti-Eber people nuts? Get on Twitter. Eber is constantly tweeting fun stuff to Adam fans and to Adam. He is extremely supportive. His mom is the silent one, but it's all good as social media is not her thing. BTW, Eber's Twitter name is @milestougeaux I think that's right; I'm doing this from memory.

Please don't condemn people when you have absolutely no information except what's on these pages. Do your homework. This is the problem with this country. People make false blanket statements and don't have a clue what they're fu*king talking about!!

Eber is alot of fun on twitter. My cousin told me about him and I have been following him since.

I still remember and laugh at Eber's comment that it's really "God hates figs" and the signs got it wrong.

Too bad that one negative comment gets hold of this whole thread that in itself has so much positive meaning.

Adam has definitely genderbendered the heart and souls of many people and that is no small feat!

One negative comment regarding Eber is enough for me.
