From Billboard: Queen Talking With Adam Lambert For Additional Concerts

While Queen drummer Roger Taylor is at the finish line in creating a band-authorized Queen tribute band, he and his bandmates have begun discussions with Adam Lambert to front Queen in concert.

The former "American Idol" star sang with Taylor and guitarist Brian May at the MTV Europe Awards on Nov. 6, performing "The Show Must Go On" and "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions."

"He has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great," Taylor told Billboard.biz in Los Angeles while finalizing the band for a Queen Extravaganza tour. " We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but we're talking about live dates. It could be very exciting."

On the front-burner for Taylor is "The Queen Extravaganza Tour" that will feature three vocalists and a five-piece band. Taylor is producer and music director, although he will not be performing on the tour. CAA will book the trek, which Taylor estimates will begin in May and go for thee months. He said he expects the band will be booked into venues with between 2,000 and 4,000 seats.

"I don't think any band has done this," he told Billboard.com about his active role in creating a tribute band. "Very few are even endorsed - I can think of Australian Pink Floyd - but there are so many of them I thought we need to have the one [we endorse]."

This sounds like a winner to me. I like that it is only for three months.

Whoa! This is as big as Adam's EMAs Show Must Go On. Roger and Brian love him so much! So he is going to be the front man for Queen in concert!!! With others. Adam, no need to row across the Atlantic, they are sending a supersonic jet!
Row row row your boat rapidly down the stream
Merrily merrily merrily merrily
Life's a super dream...Sing Adam sing!! :)

Great news for Adam. I suppose his album tour won't start til August or September 2012.I hope Sauli will be included somewhere, and not just left out for the next year. Maybe why he is going to Finland now for Christmas and to spend some time with family and friends, he might be on the road with Adam for over a year.He can still do his blogs for Finland, no matter where he is.

If they have three vocalists and they say that Adam will be front singer, does that mean they take turns at each concert, or that Adam will only do some of the venues.

Classic icon's like Brian and Roger know when a superstar is in their midst. They both have a mountain of industry experience and are brilliant beyond words.

Now, their recognize ADAM in all his superstardom, soaring genius glory. This is awesome, heartfelt and breathtakingly bloody brilliant! Adam will conquer and it is about to take off major!

WOW! This would be so wonderful for Adam ( and of course for Queen too). Adam can front the Tribute Band and still plan his own tour for 'Trespassing'. I wonder if Adam is considering this? Wish we knew what was going on in that gorgeous head of his. He must be so excited with the single about to drop and possibly touring with Queen too....OMG! The Adam Storm is upon us.......just waiting to hear that other worldly voice of yours Adam!

WOW! Great news! I wonder how Adam will fit it in with all the promo of his 2nd album in full swing, hopefully.

3 singers .... well, maybe there'll be different lead singers at different concerts/venues. Maybe that'll be a way of Adam scheduling Queen concerts to fit them in with his own promos.

I wonder who the other singers are. I hope one of them is Marc Martel.

This would be a great win-win for Adam and Queen. Playing some concerts with Queen will give Adam the exposure he needs in Europe and elsewhere to catapult him to WORLD DOMINATION!

So Queen band has come alive again, resurrected; Freddie must be beaming down his energy from above. I didn't know much about Queen until Adam performed with them at the AI/8 finale. Since then, occasionally, I looked up Freddie Mercury's videos and yes Freddie is indeed very iconic. Not only does he compose beautiful melodies and lyric but he sings them with a very wild kind of voice. I saw his video The Show Must Go On, his last performance; he tried so hard, his voice almost breaking, mustering all the strength left in him. I was really moved. And now Adam, another singing icon is stepping in to carry on beloved Freddie's genius.

If you read the article more closely, Adam would be performing with Queen, not the tribute band. Roger and I suspect Brian aren't performing with the tribute band -- it's a band put together to pay tribute to Queen's music. Adam and Queen members would be doing their own thing. Quite amazing and exciting!!

Some clarification: Re Tribute Band VS Adam fronting Queen:

The "Tribute Band" appears to be a totally separate thing from what Roger Taylor is talking about regarding Adam fronting for them. They had a contest recently to find singers and band members to tour as a TRIBUTE Band to go on tour. It doesn't sound like Adam would be doing a three month tour with the Tribute Band...He is so much "bigger" than the three unknown vocalists that were chosen to front the Tribute Band. Adam needs to sing with QUEEN...

Separately, Roger Taylor talked about Adam fronting QUEEN themselves, the original members, and NOT the Tribute Band..I've been reading about The Tribute Band contest for the last few weeks and that is my understanding. They ran auditions to find vocalists and band members for about 2 months, just ending recently. This is what Roger Taylor said about the Tribute Band formation and the planned tour back in Sept.:

From Rolling Stone Magazine: Excerpt:
Sept. 29, 2011

"Will you be involved at all then musically in the Queen Extravaganza?" [Tribute Band]
"We're putting the show together now, so what I wanted to do is leave sort of places in the show which Brian and myself could roll up and do a turn, maybe if we're starting a run somewhere exciting. So that would be an option, but, in general, this show will not feature a Queen band member." [so anything is possible...]

"Do you envision this [Tribute Band show] as being an ongoing show beyond next year?"
"In an ideal world I do and I hope it's a continuing item. We were a very sort of a global band – North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia. All these things are possible so it could be a never ending tour."

Guess we'll find out what this all means eventually...

@ 1:34 A.M.

Exactly...Adam would be singing an occasional concert with Brian and Roger...the real band! Top Quality!!

JAK...so happy :))))

I'm EXTATIC INDEED!

I read somewhere that Roger Taylor will not play for the tour. He will produce and only behind the scene. (Tribute for the Queen)

In Adam case it's different story....

He will perform with Roger and Brian.... I hope I get the right information??:)

AWESOME NEWS FOR ADAM ... & HIS FANS!

I've just watched Part 1 of a fab documentary called "Queen: Days of our Lives". It's the history of
Queen from their early days with current comments from Brian & Roger. My, Roger was so cute when he was young and Freddie was so handsome. I've never studied Queen closely but Freddie was a prolific song-writer for the group & played the piano as well. I'm recording Part 2 of the documentary right now.

I will go to a Queen concert if it comes to my country and ESPECIALLY if it includes ADAM!!! :D

I love being a fan of Adam's. It has been an exciting journey right from the start. Queen and Adam. We all knew that that was a perfect combination right from the start. Adam would be with one of his inspirational bands he grew up loving. It has to be such a high for Adam. What an honor. So excited for Adam to be on the music scene again and on my radio soon.

TOO MUCH SPECULATION--HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE. CAN'T BE IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE. HE NEEDS TO PROMOTE TRESPASSING FIRST AND FORMOST. I'M SURE THAT IS WHAT HE WILL DO. THIS QUEEN STUFF WILL PROBABLY TAKE SECOND PLACE TO THAT,ALTHOUGH IS WILL BE A FEATHER IN HIS CAP IF IT COMES TO FRUITION.

Anonymous said...

speculation, yes, of course... but will throw mine in the pot too: would agree that perhaps what is meant is that Adam would do occassional dates w/ Brian and Roger, and tribue band is whole different thing, as described above bo glitzylady et al

Why do people worry about Sauli? Adam will be fine without him.

Thanks to those of you who, halfway through this thread, clarifed this whole thing. The way I see it, Adam WILL NOT BE A PART OF THIS TRIBUTE BAND!!! I think that's a good thing! Adam is a SOLO artist and should remain so. BUT, it looks like Brian and Roger would love to perform with Adam THEMSELVES! This is such a compliment to Adam, and has much more status, I think, than being in the tribute band (I'm not down-grading the tribute band, believe me). For Brian and Roger to want Adam to sing directly with them is an incredible honor. Adam can do collaborations now and then and that is a good thing. Keeps things interesting. BUT ADAM IS ADAM and a solo artist first. Can't wait to see him perform NOW AND THEN with Brian and Roger! Adam's own 2012 tour is gonna be wild and sexy and epic!

Really hoping that Adam will perform with Queen again. A tribute band does not include members from the original band.

Anonymous said...

whats the diffrents between front band and solo artis?

arent they both part of the band?

Anonymous said...

I almost feel like Roger and Brian are doing this for Adam. They are so nice and supportive musicians. True professionals.

Anonymous said...

I think Brian and Roger would like to be 35 years younger to work more with Adam, nowadays imposible...but Thanks to Adam they feel that way. Adam can inspire everybody, even the greates musicians!!

I think Brian and Roger are just the right types to mentor and pass their knowledge to Adam about music business too.

I find this Queen Biography time saving and useful:

I thought I read that Queen will be performing at the Olympics, maybe the opening ceremony. Maybe our boy will be performing with Queen then if it's true. How wonderful would that be?

Anonymous said...

@ anon 7:26;
Being front for a band means you tour, record, ect with the same group of people, all collaborating together all the time. Being solo/headliner means band members/musicians can be interchangable (this means you, Monte!) due to schedules, other conflicts. The main draw is the headliner, not the combo of sound made by specific people. That being said....

Wouldn't a fab show be Circe de Soule (forgive the spelling) doing Queen songs, using Adam as singer?!?! Don't know what made me think of that. I guess I just need A SINGLE NOW!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree that Brian and Roger seem to really like Adam personally. He's like their kid whom they want to see do well. Adam's association with them gives him so much world-wide credibility. Queen is such a revered band and Adam's link to them gives him great status. That night in Dublin was a real turning point for Adam.

Yes, and even if Adam was in a band (which he isn't), the members can also have solo careers. That's what all the GNT band members are doing. Adam must have the same opportunity. :)

Anonymous said...

This is a WIN/WIN written all over it. I'll give anything to see Adam with Queen and I'll give anything to see Adam to do his solo tour. Big arenas across the globe with Queen and big arenas across the globe for his Trespassing tour. ADAM YOU ARE A MUTHER FUCKING BEAST SUPERSTAR. YOU KNOW YOU'LL BE ICONIC.

Anonymous said...

I think the EMA performance made people who didn't take notice of Adam to really see what us fans see. I read in another blog that they expect Trespassing to flop.(I don't think it will). With the Queen chatter I think it is getting everyone pumped like when FYE was getting closer to dropping. I am thrilled they want to work again with him though.

Anonymous said...

Who are the "they" who expect Trespassing to flop? "They" must be hoping it flops, I guess or else why would "they" say it?

Anonymous said...

@ DRG

I agree with your comment at 10:50a.m. I think they are fond of Adam (who wouldn't be) and perhaps he reminds them a bit of the young Freddie they knew.
