Absolutely LOVED that performance... gave me chills in the best possible way.

Does anyone know if Adam will be a guest on American Idol this year? He has been back every other year since season 8 so I thought he would be back again this year. I haven't heard anything about it so far. I know he doesn't have a single out right now but I was still hoping. (I don't watch the show unless Adam is on... good exposure.) Does anybody have any info?

A new idol is starting on Fox China mid may this year. Simon Fuller, producers in China starting up in may after American one over. Adam has already been confirmed to be on the finale of Idil China this year! The finale should be sound sept. maybe he will have new single out for that show by then. Don't know about American one this year! There suppose to feature Adam this year, idol shot footage if him when he performed in Asia! You may know all this it's all I know! Suppose to feature him on American one I believe was in TV guide. Correction the finale should in China should be around sept. or around then starts in may, mid may. Sue

That was a very special season when Adam was on Idol. I looked forward to seeing him each week as to what he would sing and what he would wear. He never disappointed. And Simon was so right to give him a standing ovation. A star was born that night. The show has not been the same since Season 8. Adam set the bar so high that no one has come close to his amazing vocal talent and his mesmerizing stage presence. Have you seen this season's performers? Nobody really special. And the judges, esp. Nicki and Mariah, if looks could kill, they both would be dead. Maybe the show has just hit its peak although it seems to be the only reality singing show that has produced viable recording artists that we haven't seen from the winners on The Voice or The XFactor. I'd love to see Adam on Idol, but since he doesn't have a new single out I doubt they would have him on. Maybe he could do a reprise of Mad World.

I would love to see Adam as a judge on Idol for the next season. He has been through the experience and his intelligent advice would be helpful as they approach each new performance. Would they consider him? I don't know. He will be busy working on this third album, so that might not fit into his schedule. And there is the promotion, appearances, etc. for the first single and the album. And hopefully a tour also. But if he were approached to be a judge, he might consider it. Being on Idol seems to have helped boost the careers of the other previous judges and helped with record sales.

This was all before the "it gets better" Trevor project and before all those problems with bullying came into the spotlight of the media...

I only knew that the song is about bullying after one poster on another blog thanked Adam for singing the song and therefore indirectly put the light on the problem of bullying.

Simon knew the value of a standing ovation, and never since has it meant what it is supposed to: for outstanding, electrifying, spectacular, moving, and peerless performance. Many have been given by other judges, but alas, not so deserved. The judges who give them like so much candy do contestants a disservice by derailing achievement from misguided evaluations. It does not help that the industry's music award shows recognize popularity above excellence, which frequently gets short shrift. Fortunately, we have an artist in Adam who serves his art uncompromisingly as a reminder to the gold standard of the standing ovation. atm

Too bad Adam couldn't have signed with Simon. He certainly was able to change Susan boyle's life. She also sells world wide. Wonder what he could have done for Adam?

@3:34 You took the words out of my mouth. I don't watch this season, but last season it was like everyone got a standing ovation,it was ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Adam was asked in an interview if he and Simon had kept in touch since Idol and Adam replied that they hadnt even spoken since then .All I can say is Simon missed a great opportunity by not begging Adam to sign with him .

Adam doing fine!

It has been four years already? I was at work and watched it in a patients room. Seems like yesterday.

That's an impressive list of what Adam's been doing so far this year.

That was an amazing performance. Simon was wise on his use of the standing ovation. The last year of Idol was ridiculous in the number of standing ovations. Much better judging this year especially from Keith and Nicki. Very talented contestants this year. Adam is still my favorite though :)

I remember the Mad World night very well. Because the show ran over time, some viewers didn't see the standing O, but I sure did. Simon knew a stunning performance when he heard it. And he never dished out standing O's like they were candy. I sometimes wonder, too, what would have happened if Simon had signed Adam. I don't watch AI anymore, and from what I hear, I'm glad I don't. If Adam became a judge, of course, then I would watch again, just to see him.
That Mad World performance will be historic.

Such a stunning performance. So nuanced yet powerful and emotional. And so personal for Adam. I remember the chills and holding my breath during the entire performance...

My son, who is a theater geek, Adam's age, and someone who had his own set of problems and insecurities during his teen years, was very taken by Adam's performance of Mad World. He was not an Idol fan but after I practically tied him down so he would watch this amazing singer named Adam Lambert on Season 8 of Idol (I DVR's all episodes..), he instantly became a fan. The first performance of Adam's that I "convinced" him to watch was "Feeling Good", with theatrical Adam coming down those stairs in his white suit..and my son was immediately convinced that "WOW! This guy has real talent. He's REALLY good!" The second performance I showed him was Mad World and that was it for him. He's still not an Idol fan particularly but is 100% an Adam Lambert fan. He was excited that Adam performed Mad World as an encore at the first GNT he went to with me. Because it's his favorite, the one with the most meaning to him. And his favorite performance of Mad World is this one..the one that Simon Cowell gave his only standing O for. Because it was perfect in every way.

I must have watched this video 100 times and it still mesmerises me. I never tire of Adam, Eber and Leila's memories of his childhood or of the judges comments on all of his Idol performances. Like Paula has said, "Adam is IT!"

Standing Ovation!!! Love Love Love Adam!!!!

Anonymous said...

Does hearing him sing a song like this make any of you feel this is the kind of music he should be putting out on albums? My view for 4 years. Compare this to Pop THat Lock. What a waste.

Anonymous said...

Adam can sing anything beautifully, but to have large sales numbers, he must stick to the main stream, that's where the money is, if he has a big enough hit it will allow for further concerts and touring. At the end of the day what ever Adam produces must be great music for current radio play.

Anonymous said...

Why do we need to keep going over the past and back to the idol days, surely by now we should be focusing on Adam's current music, which he worked so hard on and his up and coming album. I'm also surprised that their is not much mention of his very successful WAG tour. I'm sure Adam would much prefer to move on rather than be stuck back at AI 4 years ago.

Anonymous said...

What ever the AI judges had to say way back then, is irrelevant to where Adam stands today, the Helsinki concert which sold out to over 11,000 people speaks far more of Adams success than AI, Adam has moved on people and I think we should be doing the same.

@ 4:36 am. And do you consider Pop That Lock great music? Adam needs to collaborate with song writers who write songs for the present and future, not the ones who write fluff with no shelf life.....here today gone in 6 months.
That does not build a library of good music, it won't make Adams music live on after he's gone. Better a little bit of great than a warehouse of forgettable.

Idol is where we first met Adam. And Mad World was a beautiful moment in time for Adam and for fans. If not for Idol, we wouldn't have everything that has happened for Adam since then to enjoy and remember, OR the future music to look forward to. At least we would probably be unaware of him. An occasional look back to enjoy Adam's triumphant moments in the past 4 years since his Mad World performance is okay with me.

Personally I love pop that lock, especially live...

While this performance of Msd World was great, I actually preferred when he sang it the second time, the fog, the long coat (the better last notes), and those looks to camera......so beautiful and dramatic..

It's nice to look back but I really think people should be supporting Adam with his current achievments. Trespassing is a superb album and one that Adam can be truly proud of, it's a pity the US don't appreciate his efforts, but at least Asia and Europe have the good sense to know good music when they here it. I love Pop That Lock, it's catchy and great for the dance floor. Adam's selection of songs for TP are a good choice something for everyone who appreciates good music. Sadly he continues to struggle with the US not because of his music but because of his orientation.

Adam's songs are not 'fluff' as you put it, go back over the history of Rock music, bands like Led Zepplin, Deep Purple, people rubbished their music and yet these bands music still stands the test of time. I think you need to broaden your vision.

Anonymous said...

I never considered led zeppelin, Aerosmith, the moody blues any of those band's music fluff......Herman's hermits were fluff, ever hear their songs now-a-days? The ones I mentioned were rock bands, Adam isn't....he is pop like the hermits. He's in need of a genre definition that befits his voice. My music vision ranges from symphony to funk!
Plenty broad.

This standing ovation actually meant something unlike the ones from recent years. . . . Adamluv

The AI standing ovation was important I agree and I'm not trying to take away from that but I also think it's important to acknowledge Adam's work and accomplishments since then for example the Queen concerts, Brian May and Roger Taylor couldn't stop praising Adam saying he was a born entertainer with a one in a million voice. The Hennessey Artistry Awards, and don't forget he was nominated for a Grammy Award for WWFM and that is a pop song. The Beatles and Rolling Stones do pop and people still adore these bands, David Bowie once again pop music, he still has a huge following. Adams music is nothing like Herman Hermits BTW. Also we need to remember that Adam has a team of professionals behind him so I'm sure they will be holding round table discussions with Adam as to what direction he is best taking.

It is interesting to look back at Adam's career and for each of us as a fan to remember performances that were so special on Idol. It wasn't just one; it was all of them done in his unique style making each song his own. He has grown, matured and changed during the last 4 years. For me, Adam is the best vocal talent in music today. He has moved on and is not stuck in time with the performances on Idol. But the show did provide the platform which brought him to the attention of the American viewing audience and gave him a career in the recording business that is like no one else. Unfortunately, I do agree that he struggles to become more successful and accepted because of his sexual orientation and that is so sad. But the times and attitudes are changing and hopefully his third album will make a difference in his career.

No one on Idol, before or since Adam, has been such a game-changer on that show. No one has stood out from the crowd in such a wonderful way, with voice, creativity, style, and just plain courage. No one has even come close. I realize a few others make more money than he does and sell more. But no one can claim the title of "game-changer" more than Adam. He is not a perfect person, as none of us are, but I have such respect for him. He is trying to navigate through a business that is full of pitfalls and prejudices and risks. He is attempting to do this with honesty and a smile. I love all his music, but I love him as a human being. I cannot imagine leaving this fandom. It's not a sprint. It's a life-long journey.

There are many famous and influential artists who receive very little recognition until many years later into their careers and in some cases after their death. Many of these artists although some have been nominated, have never won a Grammy.

Buddy Holly, The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, Queen, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, Dianna Ross and Bob Marley, just to name a few.

In most cases it wasn't until many years of hard work that their contribution to the music industry was recognised and honoured. This tells me that although Adam has many challenges ahead eventually with hard work he will finally receive the recognition he so rightly deserves.

Season 8 provided us with an eye opener....there was the cute peppy red headed firecracker Allison, the sweet puppy Kris. The lovable big bear Michael Sarver, the hot mama Lil, the Justin Timberlake wanna be Matt, the slightly hokey Danny Gokey, the perennial college boy Anoop, etc, etc, and they were all pretty good.....THEN an exotic snow leopard came slinking across the stage to mesmerize with his blue eyes and wail "I Can't Get No Satisfaction".

Duh...jaws dropped all over the country....."what was
that?"
And I thought " Well, if HE can't get no satisfaction, what hope is there for anyone else?

I got a shivery feeling I'd only had once before.......decades before when I saw Elvis perform with
The Louisiana Hayride before the Presley storm hit.

Adam just oozed "special" and still does.......JAK

Adam Lambert is special and set the bar so high on Idol that no one since then has come close to his vocal abilities and his stage presence. His performances were mesmerizing and he certainly deserved that standing ovation form Simon. And yes, he may not have achieved the success and recognition we would like for him in the music business, but it is a tough field and talent doesn't always win out. Have you listened to some of the garbage that is played on the radio today or seen in those music videos. I believe that Adam Lambert will have a very long career in music when most of today's popular and "no talent" performers have faded into oblivion. I see the Elvis and Adam comparisons that JAK mentioned and feel exactly the same way.
