Ohhh that sounded darn cool used in that program.

So much more powerful along side of that video

I have great respect for firemen and rescuers who risk their own lives to save another. However this film is using 'Underneath' in a literal sense which is not what the song is about. I felt Adam's angst in the song especially when he keeps asking: "Now do you see?" throughout the song and also..."It's not easy for me."
The film is very well-done but the song doesn't quite relate to the life-and-death situation faced by those trapped in the burning rubble; their lives hanging in the balance within hours or minutes if they are not reached in time. Perhaps the film needs a more realistic song and not one such as 'Underneath' relating to angst, feelings of rejection and being misunderstood, portrayed in Adam's fiery singing. I guess it's still a good song to accompany the film because Adam's passionate voice does sound like he's calling for help...but in a different sense.

Oh my God this song sounds so beautiful. Just perfect for this dramatic trailer. Adam's voice just radiates like magic; draws the attention to the scenes in a most dramatic way. So glad to see this beautiful song get this kind of exposure.

Win, win for the ears and for Adam!!!

It still sounds so good, tho.I can see why their producers used "Underneath".Lots of people don't know BB's song,& for that ad don't know the real meaning.Lam-my,I can see your point of view, tho;maybe the Trespassing album will wake up more interest to those who have not heard it at all. That song is sung so well,& not many( or maybe nobody) could come close to Adam's vocal range in "Underneath".

Can Adam earn royalties from the using his song? I remember he uses a company who is supposed to watch for his songs being used. I wonder if they will use this song in the actual series. Any way I think this is great exposure, I can just hear people saying "Who is singing that?" I have heard other people singing in the background of shows, and thought the same thing about the singer. I don't think I am expressing myself very well, but my point is that I think it is all good.

3:08, yes, the show has to pay for using the song.

I think this song is absolutely perfect for this UK show! Adam's voice displays the deep emotion of the fire fighters! Such a beautiful song and Adam's voice is like no other! The exact meaning of Adam's song doesn't really matter. I's the passion and feeling in the song that connects so well to the heart and actions being displayed by the actors. "Underneath" is what we are all about. So much of Adam's music is soul-stirring and gut-wrenching. That's what makes him great! Not many artists can touch us the way Adam can. His beautiful voice alone can make us cry in an instant! I hope Adam gets compensated for his music. He is such a great singer and writer who needs to be heard by everyone. Adam is truly iconic like Paula first said on Idol......nancdruuu2

Anonymous said...

lam-my . Anytime Adam's music is used it's a + .
It's a trailer and the bits they used were to emphasize the emotion of the moment. It's all good.

Besides the fact that the song seems somewhat dislocated from the film, the scenario is over dramatised...that was how it came across to me. If I see the whole film/show, perhaps I might have a clearer overview and that might change my thoughts. When I saw this short snippet, it gave the impression of an overkill. The raging fire in the snippet is a powerful imagery and Adam's voice in the song seems to be competing with this already overpowering fiery scene; that was my first impression. The song and film seem to collide rather than merge. As I've said I'd reserve my final decision if I get to see the whole scenario; this snippet is too short for an accurate critique on it.

It sounds perfect for this trailer to me . The song is dramatic and that coincides perfectly with the trailer. The trailer is dramatic. Think the directors and the producers of the show know what fits the show. Bet Queen realizes this is Adams song. Brian had said when trespassing first came out he listened to it in his car. Not everything is a perfect fit but this seems a good fit to me. This is a very good thing for Adam and sure he dies get paid he wrote this one himself. Listening to this small clip you realize how good he sounds and how good the song was. My neighbors are fans of Adam as well and have said Adam has some very good music.
One other good thing about the Queen tour is some more people will discover trespassing from the radio publicity and other and sure it will be sold at the venues hopefully it was a very good album. But can't wait for the album three think we may have seen nothing yet as far as the best of Adam music. Correction I said dies I meant does. So nervous about that upcoming surgery on the 7 th I am writing worse than usual sorry. Sue

@12:44 AM, It good that you see Lam-my point of view, but to me it's utterly nonsense!

Lam-my,
What you said about the song being used in "The Smoke" ad is the equivalent of Adam singing "Time for Miracles" in the movie "2012". After all, that song was a love song about a wife who died of cancer. Some of Adams fans are his worst enemy. Just rejoice in the fact that Adam's song was selected for that particular ad, instead of dissecting and analyzing it. Also, I'm sure LMD isn't about ice tea.

@Sue, I agree with you! Also, I wish you well with your surgery, and just think positive thought about how much better you're going to feel afterwards. Don't be skerd!

I am so thrilled to see and hear this. I bet that Adam is also. Wonderful to have his music heard one way are the other. The fact that this song can be used in so many ways to reflect different and meaningful ways is just heartwarming. That voice and this song just slays me every time.

The more Adam's music is used, the more exposure he gets; not to mention money. I have looked at this trailer so many times; and Adams song fits so beautifully, and brings the extra drama. So fantastic!!!!

Let's not over-think the relationship between the song and TV show. The important thing is that someone knew of the song and thought it would work well in this promo. That's good in itself. Shows that someone involved in this program was aware of this incredible yet virtually unheard song. I love how the song relates to scenes from the show. It works for me. I hope that someday Adam will include Underneath in his setlist for his live shows. It's another ones of his hidden gems. And yes, I'm quite sure that Adam gets a royalty from its use.
And Lam-my, I love the way you express your point of view and feelings. You are a very deep thinker!

I love how Adam's voice really stand out in this promo. It's not covered up too much.

Anonymous said...

strange, Adam's version of Ring of Fire was used for a trailer of an American TV series in which firebrigades were the main focus as well... Axel...

Anonymous said...

Someone has the nerve to complain that one of Adam's songs is used for TV promo ad. I'm sorry, but Adam gets very little exposure on radio in Texas, and hearing or seeing any of his music being used anywhere makes me very happy!! Go Adam!! Stupid DJ's would actually say "no" when I would call and request his music. Please be happy that Adam's music is being used and finally heard. I know I am.

Anonymous said...

I can't take all the negative feed back about Adam and his music getting attention. His supposed fans blocking Adam's path is unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

Omg, nobody here could block Adams path if they wanted to, and I doubt they do

And I agree that song is not really a good fit for that video.

Anonymous said...

Adams lyrics can be interpreted any way the listener wants them to be.
He's always said that about his songs.
If the UK show wants to use Underneath, I think is fantastic.
More exposure for Adam and his music.

Vicki in Ohio said...

@7:38 AM

So sad to hear the DJ's you called to request Adam's records actually just said no; without any explanation, how rude.

I am so glad that Adam is getting so many alternative ways to get his music heard. If some radio snobs won't play him; other alternative and creative ways will have to be used the get that one in a billion voice out to the masses.

He seems to headed in the right direction; all exposure in bringing that voice to the public at large is a big plus. No one will keep Adam Mitchel Lambert from being heard!!!!

Since we are all respectfully expressing our opinions. I must say I so disagree with you about Adam's song "Underneath" not fitting the subject trailer. It is so moving to me. Just beautiful; makes it all sound and look so dramatic!!

As Adam fans, I assume we are all coming from a good place. So I respect all opinions.

The Dark Side said...

Yes there is a disconnect with the show and the lyrics if you are a fan if Adams and know his music. But any song can be interpreted in different ways, so I say win, win. Get his voice out there where it belongs! I'm surprised at the negatives I'm reading.

Well I am a fan of Adams and I know his music; and I don't think there is a disconnect. I just love this!

Many songs are used in many commercials; and of course it would not be about the exact subject because it is not a video made by the artist. It is being used by the producers of the commericals; and they for some reason feel that it fits their needs.

LMD song in the Lipton tea commercials is not about ice tea; but that fits in the spots used in three different Countries.

I am just so thankful that Adam's songs are being used in all the TV spots. I will take them all. I just love the Smoke one. I keep watching it; because I am a fan!!

Bring on more trailer, and more advertisers with Adam Lambert's fabulous vocals. I will take them all!!

4:39 am , sorry, Adam did not write Underneath. One of the few songs on the album he did not write.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your comment Tall Tree I appreciate it a lot. lam-my always has valid points not disputing that. The thing is Adam has fought hard to get exposure lately to ensure more will get his music he worked hard on now and new music coming. I for one will back him and his efforts with everything I have. This is a great way to get it out there. Nothing is just that perfect fit but I like this song for this trailer and its getting Adams music heard even if everyone does not know who sang it many do and might just ask about it. Plus it is a bit of money for Adam. I think it's a win win . Sue

I don't think the song chosen to bring awareness of a dramatic scene needs to be literal. I think this great.
No need to over think things.

2:13, go check your liner notes. Adam's name is first if he wrote the song and last if he just has a writing credit. Adam also said in an interview that he did not write Underneath.

As long as you are checking your liner notes please also notice Adam has no writing credits on Naked Love. He didn't write that one either.

I think it's wonderful that Adam's song is being used. But I also appreciate the various opinions expressed here. Such a gorgeous and heart wrenching song... So glad it has this chance to be heard, even as snippets...

Underneath is one of several songs I have to hear three or four times each time they play on my cd player in my car. I find tears running down my cheeks sometimes. It's such a beautiful song sung by a marvelous singer. I do NOT find the snippets chosen by the director of the trailer inappropriate at all. In fact, I give him/her kudos for the choices made.

Anonymous said...

Do all the writers of a song get writing credit and royalties or just the first writers name that is mentioned?

Anonymous said...

All.

Anonymous said...

Yes, very good that we are carrying out a discussion properly, that is without attacking or deeming another's opinion as utter nonsense; not "utterly" nonsense please! And definitely not a complaint!
My angle was from the art point of view and to think I do not appreciate immensely Adam's music being used as a backdrop in a film or in any form on screen, just tells me, you either don't know my love for Adam or you have a personal vendetta. But art and its purpose always come first for me as far as Adam is concerned and art/music in general. The usage always second.
Well, DRG added in a line which tells me she does know how I feel about Adam and also Sue and 12:44, 8:47 and Dark Side. Oh, I don't over analyse though some think I do; I get a first impression and then write about it; my thoughts come quite naturally, that's how I think even in my day to day circumstances.

This is CRAZY wonderful that Adam's song is being used in the show previews!!

Underneath is such a powerful song - one of Adam's best. When I first got Trespassing, I had to sit my musical brother down and make him listen to it. He really liked it. (He's also the one that first drew Adam to my attention when he was on Idol. I didn't watch.)

Hope this is the start of more of Adam's amazing songs being listened to and used. They need to be heard!

What a thrill for Adam!

Well, imho, "usage" is a primary concern, not a secondary one, in terms of Adam's career at this juncture... because a song of his being used in a mainstream nature such as this is absolutely only win/win. @Lam-my, this, what I have written above, is not the point about which you write in your post at March 30 at 4:52pm, I get it, I am just saying that "usage" such as this is utterly primary in my own personal view, as it advances, if even only a little, Adam's career and advances the exposure of his talents. The potential focus on Adam that a usage of one of his songs like this could bring about is hugely important... because without exposure, art can easily become secondary, as bills must be paid, so to speak, such that more art can be created and not abandon, in the face of real world challenges like success an bill paying. I get your position Lam-my, I absolutely do, and it is obviously a personal view, a way of being, integral to your existence, something which is more subjective and less objective and therefore less debatable... But to me, when Adam reaches the next level (a Bruno Mars like level for example) which I fully believe he will, art will take center stage with an exclusivity that perhaps must be moderated right now, and "usage" will be his call totally, made in the comfort of a secure place on the business side of things, and a comfort zone there that allows art to reign. All this is NOT to say that Adam doesn't always put art first, I do believe he does, but to not acknowledge the pro's of usage, a payday, and more importantly exposure and attention, is to throw out the baby with the bathwater, imho. Two different notions, ideas and points you might say Lam-my... well I suppose that is true, but I just offer my own opinion that, right now anyway, they might be inextricably entwined.

Lol you two above!

Not that it matters one dang bit, but my take is that maybe the song, its lyrics, suggest something that is relevant to the how the show will unfold!!!! That the song, its lyrics, its angst, is a purposeful indicator to hint that the upcoming episodes of the show aren't your run of the mill "Firefighter Show". I would make a guess that the producers of the show didn't pick Underneath arbitrarily. I am surprised that Lam-my didn't entertain that possibility. Maybe she did but just didn't choose to focus on that aspect in her posts. Or maybe it just aint that deep, lol. Funny 7:23.

Lam-my, I stand corrected. However, since fan sites are informal, I still prefer the word utterly (absolutely, completely nonsense). I wasn't trying to put you down, but I was taken aback about your comment about Adam's song being used in the ad. Your post shocked me because you're usually a positive, supported, and loving fan. I don't have a beef with you, as a matter of fact I rather like you! Cool!

Well, I've been mulling over how I could connect the song Underneath to the The Smoke video more closely...even before I read the above comments; so it's not meant to refute anything purported.
Okay... If a person is buried underneath the rubble, suggested in the video, the actual person is not visible but is there. Similarly, referred in Adam's song, under the "freak" facade, the real beautiful person too is 'buried' because many choose not to see the actual person. And Adam sings these lines...Let me take you underneath...Now do you see?
It's my analogy. There! art is still my top priority over usage. Simply because when the concept/purpose of the art is right, the usage will follow more effectively. And now Underneath has gotten a clean bill of health as used in The Smoke video. lwl!

Lam-my

Thank you for the clarification.
You can't use...it's utterly nonsense, neither can you replace it with completely or absolutely; because you need an adjective in front of an abstract noun not an adverb.
Or...utterly/completely/absolutely nonsensical.

Lam-my,

@Lam-my March 31 at 11:37AM

I am glad to learn that you do not correct people for sport. Having read this declaration from you, I will resist correcting you in the two instances where I could in your post at 11:37am ;).

On a similar but slightly different note - I would like to add that what I love about commenting on open blogs is the "feel" or flavor of people's writing. I have here, and almost always do, write (type) very stream of consciousness. I employ very bad grammar and sentence structure and the like, but the idea I am getting across is my primary concern, and my secondary concern is how perfect my writing is unfolding from a grammar, punctuation etc. standpoint. I would offer that perhaps this "way" of mine is not unlike how Lam-my puts "art" before "usage" as bandied about above. I do try to use punctuation very generously, so as to cultivate better understanding of my posts. I absolutely acknowledge that I do not use my punctuation correctly much of the time, but again, I use it more as spacers, breaths, pauses - so that people can get a feeling for how I might be delivering my thoughts if I were speaking to them. Anyway, blah blah blah... I am just saying that I think it is fun to just read people's comments at face value. I believe that many times they are writing how they are writing with purposeful intent, to convey a certain concept, mood, etc. @Tall Tree, if you are reading, I TOTALLY UTTERLY COMPLETELY ABSOLUTELY get why you wanted to stick with utterly, and the feeling that word conveyed, despite its being improper, I truly believe I get what you were going for - that extra "feel". ;).

Having said all that (sorry, long winded, ugh ;)), please allow me to also quickly point out that auto correct and rushing and plain 'ole mistakes while typing account for a lot of mistakes on fansites and blogs. I'd venture to guess that is a safe statement to make. Personally, if I am not typing rather swiftly, I am typing in a stream of consciousness manner... both of those actions lead to many mistakes... but I'm generally having fun with it all, so, to me, it's all good.

Happy Blogging People!

ps. Don't have time to proofread that, real life calls, I ask for a pardon of my numerous mistakes in advance. :). Peace

@Lam-my
And I am not even talking about the misspelling of the word "response". I guess that would make 3 corrections I could offer you ;). I'll resist 'though, as I do believe your being a stickler for good, proper writing is not a bad thing - not a bad thing in life in general anyway... on a fansite, maybe not so necessary to be so formal. It's a little exhausting to strive for perfection while blogging. To me, and I speak only for myself, I blog for fun. Just my POV. RL knocking my door down. Tata all.

I do not mind reading all kinds of English used here and have never corrected anybody directly. As I've said unless it's addressed to me and in the case of "utterly nonsense", I would have let it go without batting an eyelid. I pointed it out because it was used directly to describe my comment as "utterly nonsense". So that is okay! and my pointing out her error is not!! So I thought if you want to hit out at me, intentional or not, I'd just let the person know she was not that perfect either!! I do know many have their work to attend to and may not have the time to read over their comments; also frankly speaking, it's a difficult language to master due to its myriad nuances; and many are using it as 2nd or 3rd language. Okay one advice, keep your writings short and to the point unless elaboration is necessary. Like some of the comments directed at me here, tend to talk down! to me. This thread is probably dead, I came to 24/7 today to catch up on Adam's twitter party I heard about, and have continued to read on through the threads.

So yes, the thread is probably dead, but I just had to jump in and say to my fellow Adam admirer and fan Lam-my: Really Lam-my, you are going to counsel about not elaborating unless necessary. Your entire post at 3/29 10:50pm is an elaboration that was not necessary imho. I truly am not trying to be snarky. However, it is quite typical that a song used in an ad for a TV program not be ideally suited to the shows true and exact visuals or theme, it really aint that deep, but rather quite black and white from an advertising standpoint. And while I did actually enjoy your post at 10:50, truly I did, I feel secure in offering my own belief and saying that it was an elaboration that was not necessary, as many of your posts on this site are imho. I know you weren't going for an examination of Advertising techniques in modern day broadcasting or anything, and you'll say apples & oranges probably, but still, I would qualify your post @ 10:50pm as an unnecessary elaboration. Again, that is totally cool by me, there is always that little thing called the scroll function ('tho I always read your posts Lam-my :)), but really... really, it's a little hard to take a step back from you counseling others to adopt brevity in their postings. Btw, speaking of not being brief (I am guilty here, lol), those lengthy comments here at the bottom of this thread, to my mind's eye, didn't talk down to you at all, if those were the ones you were referencing with that comment. My feeling is that they were very much honoring your wonderful grasp of language and writing and NOT "dumbing down" the post. Oh well, whatever. Speaking also of writing, and trying to do so correctly, @Laura is actually mistaken in her 4:47 post too, lol. Read the sentence as it's structured again you funny, cute Laura, you're mistaken, I think :). Love your posts Laura! Thanks for contributing your cool attitudes, perspectives, and fun posts here, you're always an enjoyable read!

7:51 ... Hi! Weird, I just came back to see how this thread ended and found you,
You little sweetheart! Thanks for the compliments.

At 4:47, I wrote a correction from "your" to "you are". I'm pretty sure that's correct. If you can read the original sentence with "you are" in it and it makes sense, then it's correct. "Your" is a possessive? Like "your car".

But, I gotta tell ya, I have learned correct English here that I WAS mistaken on. So thanks for taking an interest.

Hello you grammarians! I'm butting in here to make my declaration. I spent 26 years raising my children and gently hounding them in the rules of grammar. The day I gave up being a member of the grammar police force was a day of celebration for all of us.

Now, though it's still all there-I don't sweat it if I goof.
It's a wonderful feeling of freedom.
Free at last!

Ok, the thread is most likely dead... just wanna pour my heart out a bit.

I have always loved languages, the English language has always been my favorite. It's not my native languag as is evident from my posts. My knowledge of English (reading, comprehension, understanding, vocabulary) is much better than the Broken English I pour out here, cause here - on an Adam Lambert FAN site - at least for me PASSION & FLAILING & HAVING FUN is involved... This is not work, this is not anything official that should be documented or corrected, threw grammar out of the window long time ago!
Even more importantly at this day and age of globalization people should greet one another for having the tenacity and courage to learn and SPEAK foreign languages - not just the few world dominating languages - who gives a rat's ass about grammar if you understand what people are saying to you and you can make yourself understood where ever you travel or live.

So finally, just wanna say, after having schooled myself and having worked in a multinational company for over 20 years, speaking, writing and making myself understood in several languages, I won't let anyone to give me the advice - not even Lam-my - "to keep my writings short and to the point unless elaboration is necessary"! You natives can keep your 'myriad of nuances', I come here to comment, participate, share and read Adam news, flail and have fun. And that is totally doable without the perfect control of the English grammar and language! To quote the Sunshine Friend of Adam, Sauli: "YAY!!!"

Such wonderful, uplifting posts at 6:17 & 2:39! Gosh, thanks for your contributions. Now, shall I put the last nail in the coffin of this thread? LOL ;)

I think you might have got the meanings of elaboration and long rigmaroles like yours confused. My comment at 10:50 cannot be viewed as a long elaboration; it's short, a third of each of your unnecessary rigmarole comments. Also, it was my first impression of the video with no intention of elaboration! Subsequently I followed it up with an analogy to connect the song Underneath with The Smoke video at 10:06. That to me is more of an elaboration and necessary; to explain the connectivity between Adam's song and the video. So my suggestion of keeping comments short and to the point unless elaboration is necessary, is relevant! Can you see the difference?

I wonder how many languages this grammar police, who I think is our know it all, can read, speak and write!?

Small mind needs to open their window
To welcome new ideas, acceptance, gratitude
No amount of language knowledge will achieve this!
Therefore the number of languages one knows
Is irrelevant and obsolete in this context
I'm content to be able to communictae, connect, love
Perhaps with a bit of style thrown in
To while away my precious time
Before I need to stand back, take stock
Transcend to the next realm
With a peaceful gentle wave and a smile
And know, I've finally arrived lwl!

I am happy to find your distinguished way of writing the post. Now you make it easy for me to understand and implement the concept. Thank you for the post.
