Adam Lambert No Freddie Mercury, But Next Best Thing!

Adam Lambert, in his new role as front man for Queen,
rocked Houston on Wednesday night, during one the band’s few southern
stops on its summer tour. Sources say it didn’t take long for the crowd
to warm up to Lambert, whose vocal abilities sold them–if not
before–then definitely during his rendition of ‘Somebody to Love.’
Since Freddie Mercury’s passing back in 1991, finding a viable replacement with the vocal talent and similar over-the-top style to fill his larger-than-life shoes has been a difficult task for the band. Adam Lambert likely represents the end to that task. His glitz and glam via multiple costume changes compared to those of Cher–as well as his penchant for leopard print, leather, and fringe–kept the crowd singing along, cheering, and remembering Mercury, who died of HIV/AIDS. Film clips of Mercury’s performances from the 1980s peppered Wednesday’s performance, with Adam Lambert even ceding the vocals of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ to his late, great predecessor. It was plain to see that Lambert had achieved the very delicate balance of leading with his vocals while still honoring Freddie Mercury–and with some of the band’s original fans in the audience–that was no small feat.
Adam Lambert reportedly had more of a ‘practiced showmanship’ style than that of Freddie Mercury, who always kept his feet very firmly planted in the rock genre, but that was probably needed to prevent fans from thinking they were at a tribute show instead of a revitalized version of a classic rock band.
The night after his Houston performance, Adam Lambert was rocking the crowd in Dallas.
If any Queen fans held off their opinions of Adam Lambert until the encore, then they were sold the minute the young singer returned to the stage. His renditions of ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are the Champions’ left little to no doubt in their minds.
Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury. Mercury is irreplaceable in the rock world. But as a singer who can lead Queen into several more years of sold out performances–it sounds like Lambert might just be the next best thing.

Adam is way better then Freddie ever was. So sick of all this crap "he's no Freddie"
THE BAND IS CALLED QUEEN +ADAM LAMBERT!!!
PERIOD!!!
can we just move on.
geez
This was a GREAT review!
At this point I think we can accept that phrase that Adam "is no Freddie Mercury", realize that it is not an insult or a slight to Adam, and that it is NOT a bad thing! Adam is Adam Lambert..and that's a GOOD thing!!
I suspect Adam is fine with that.. He's said over and over again he's not trying to BE Freddie, but to honor his music.. Fair enough....
Time to revel in the accolades that are being heaped upon Adam AND the remaining members of Queen, and those who are also filling out the roster, during this fabulous (and generally sold out..) tour..
Let's perhaps focus on these phrases from the review instead of the "he's no Freddie Mercury":
THIS!!!
"Since Freddie Mercury’s passing back in 1991, finding a viable replacement with the vocal talent and similar over-the-top style to fill his larger-than-life shoes has been a difficult task for the band. Adam Lambert likely represents the end to that task."
AND THIS!!!
"Mercury is irreplaceable in the rock world. But as a singer who can lead Queen into several more years of sold out performances–it sounds like Lambert might just be the next best thing."
AWESOME praise for "our" guy! And so well deserved, with many thanks to Dr. Brian May and Roger Taylor for recognizing Adam's talent..
The Queen Extravaganza, is supposed to come to the US next year. I wonder how they will do after Queen+ Adams tour. Seems like it would be anticlimactic. I don't think I would go to it, after seeing the real Queen group with Adam. Just wouldn't be the same at all.
It should have read Adam Lambert, no need for Freddie.
Freddie was/is a rock star legend and always will be. His an British/international institution power icon. Then there's our ADAM!
The fact power houses like Brian May and Roger Taylor adore ADAM and chose him to front Queen is indeed a great honor and testament to the incredible phenomenal enriched feast ADAM brings to the band. (OMG we knew ADAM was the best wonderment on the planet from the first day we took him into our lives!) So don't panic over the Freddie/ADAM stuff...they're both of historical wonderment, each in their own way.
Omg just home from the concert, it was wonderful Queen and AL fans so much fun.Trying to connive another concert now. Still flying high.
Although the review is ok ... the reviewer wasn't even at the concert! If you read closely, she says things like 'sources say', etc. Plus in the comments section of the article, some people note that she even references comments from other reviews! Bogus! Don't think people should be allowed to report on something they haven't even attended.
A wonderful review!
If those who complain about Freddie never saw him live, then they certainly missed something incredibly extraordinary & therefore are in no position to compare/judge him. However, let's not sweat the small stuff re Adam & Freddie. If you don't want to read that, don't read the reviews because it will probably come up time & time again. Let's all revel in the NOW & ENJOY the current Queen + Adam!
and Roger seems to remain invisible and lacking of Praise. Not right or fair.
Roger Taylor is actually often both recognized and praised in many reviews.. His position during the concerts is not always front and center, being behind the drums much of the time.. But I've seen most of the reviews and he is mentioned often.... And he is certainly a major part of the concert, gathering much applause and standing O's when he is front and center, with his drum solos and his vocals..
And Freddie was no Adam Lambert!!! Period!!!!
2:47 thank you for correcting me since you have all access to reviews and have actually been able to attend many concerts. Roger is fabulous and I can only form an opinion on the comments and tweets I see people post.
Let's not forget Freddie wrote most of the wonderful songs for Queen along with Brian and Roger, if it wasn't for these songs Adam would have nothing to sing.
ADAM can sing ANYTHING, so I'm sure he never lacks songs to sing! Lol.
