Currently on tour as the frontman for Queen, Adam Lambert is performing a lot of the same classic songs the band's late lead singer Freddie Mercury did in the 70s and 80s.
But unlike Mercury, he is doing so as an openly gay man. 'From what I understand, it took Freddie a bit of time to come to terms with his sexuality,' Lambert tells Huffington Post.

I think in those earlier days, there wasn't this urgency to "come out" but people know and call the gays sissy or girly. I remember we would visit a certain gay meeting place, Bugis Street and at 10pm punctually, the pretty aquas / gay guys would emerge and walk up and down outside the coffee/liquor place; and there would be a gathering sitting at tables drinking beer, in my case, rum-n-coke and simply watch them. The first time I saw them, I couldn't believe they were males; pretty, sashaying in tight-fitting low-cut dresses, or jeans. I think they were soliciting clients. Even in such times, I've not heard about the idea of "coming out" because there is actually no need, we can see. But the best part is they are accepted by us to this day and not jeered upon or bullied. Even till now, there is no grand announcements about people "coming out" and these people are very talented in our local tv shows; one that I know of, but there are many, performed in Japan and they loved him; made it big there on stage shows; a patriotic Singaporean, now a music/stage-show producer...has high academic qualifications. He wrote and performed his own musicals. By the way, when Adam came, he was received in a huge erected welcome tent and Adam spent more than an hour signing autographs; the queues stretched along three big blocks of buildings...at Bugis Junction, the same place the aquas gathered every night and where I first encountered gay people during the 70's. Bugis Junction is now a sprawling shopping-mall with bars/cafeterias. Adam will definitely remember this place. And you know what...he was wearing the Queen greyish t-shirt because it's hot here and on his second visit, he was wearing that slinky sexy singlet...getting less and less, simply because it's so hot and he himself is hot. lol!

Lam-my I remember Bugis Street so well from being in Singapore in the 70s. It was quite a surprise to visit the place now earlier in the year and find a shopping Mall.

Hi Janice.....This sure comes as a pleasant surprise; yea like I said Adam was welcomed at Bugis Junction the shopping-mall; he was here to promote Glam Nation most likely, and he was wearing the Queen t-shirt. He must have been so proud of his AI finale performance with Queen. And now a QueenBert full-circle completion.
Thanks!
