From VARIETY, the entertainment website that discusses everything worth hearing about in film, music, etc.. etc.. came this article today about the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards held on Tuesday, November 4th, 2014 in Hollywood, CA at the Avalon Ballroom..
Queen and Adam Lambert won "Band Of The Year"
Some EXCERPTS: (read the entire story at the link at the bottom of this page..)
"In a land where awards shows are as much a part of the landscape as palm trees and traffic jams, the arrival of yet another self-congratulatory event in Los Angeles could generate a collective yawn. But as anyone in the entertainment biz knows, who shows up is as important as who is being honored and why. In the case of the 10th annual Classic Rock Roll of Honour Awards, transplanted for the first time to Hollywood — specifically the storied Avalon — from its usual London base (the Camden Roundhouse for the past few years), the room was sufficiently star-studded, even by Tinseltown standards."
"But millennials need not apply; this is not your Miley Cyrus platform. “Classic” stands for both Classic Rock Magazine, a kind of talisman to rock nostalgia in the U.K., the mecca of rock publications, and everything from ’70s-era hard rock to jam bands to old-school metal. Hence the Osbournes — including Ozzy, Sharon and Kelly — holding court in the room as the first family of rock."
"There were also kudos handed out for Album of the Year (Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey’s “Going Back Home”), Film of the Year (Metallica’s “Through the Never”) and Reissue of the Year (Led Zeppelin 1, 2 & 3). There were signs of youth, like Adam Lambert, of “American Idol” fame, being honored as Freddie Mercury’s stand-in with Queen as Band of the Year, and southern rock stalwarts The Cadillac Three being named Best New Band."
"The ceremony will be televised Dec. 28 on AXS TV in the US."

Read the article, thank you.
Wishing somebody would come up with a vid of the performance where Brian played the guitar. Not complaining but to wait until Dec 28.... :(
OT
There's a wonderful youtube vid of Brian enthusiastically talking about The Red Special, the guitar of his life and also of his other guitars and answering people's questions.
Could listen to him for hours. And I have, lol. Just like with Adam... Although I must admit that when listening and watching Adam, "the signs of youth"....the things that make me go hhhmmmm... <3<3<3
What a wonderful honor and great exposure for our Adam. American Idol should pay Adam for being such a wonderful living advertisement for them; Young, Talented, and Handsome: and a real WINNER. PRICELESS!!!
It's not like I sit around and read Variety personally, but I do understand that Variety, online or old school format, is a powerful and influential publication in show business. Some of the ONLINE nods & blurbs that Adam gets from smaller websites and blogs and such are really fun, but maybe not as widely seen by influential people as we hope... but a Variety mention is much more likely to be seen by TPTB, awesome! I would venture to guess that the younger movers & shakers in the Industry comb over and analyze the online blogs and fan sites etc for sure, all good, but a Variety mention of any sort just strikes me as really cool.
Too bad the crazy people are leaving ridiculous comments despite what Shosh has said.
@5:35 - I just saw that! Gosh, it toally bummed me out. For the life of me I can NOT understand why intelligent people (you can tell by the fairly well written posts that these people are not dumb) don't understand how potentially detrimental such comments are to Adam's career. Well, maybe I just overstated that a bit, but you all get the gist. So very frustrating.
Perhaps this may come across as counterintuitive (granted, I have not seen the comments).... But, the powers that be who will ultimately affect Adam's career are much more objective than we are... A bit less affected by remarks.... And ALOT more motivated by the bottom line: $$$. If an artists' fan base seems a a bit rabid.... That also can be translatable to an artists' marketability; capability to fill concert seats; buy albums.... And, thereby, more lucrative overall. In fact, for the most part, they love it. (With exception to fans that are truly bringing bad press, ie: destructive to property, assaults, death threats, crimes, etc).
I think we can relax a bit.
The people who help Adam's career aren't intimidated or offended.... They're looking to capatilize on the next project and their artist.
Shoshanna just gets personally annoyed, IMO. Imho, she wields her influence easily with Adam's fans; as we... his fans... are, many times, highly emotive. And it works. She's a big girl... And has been handling this type of thing for a long time now. Any publicist worth her salt doesn't become reactive to such attention by fans. It only helps publicists' bottom line, if they manage it well.
If there were major concerns, there would be more indicators.
My two, three and four cents. ;))))
I would also consider posting a comment (thinking out loud here..), something like this (rough edit):
"Many thanks to VARIETY for the article, looking forward to seeing, the show in Dec. on my TV, excited to see so many rock legends all in one place.. And oh btw, saw Queen + Adam Lambert earlier this year and imho, they truly deserved the Band of the Year award... Dr. Brian May & Roger Taylor are still rockin' their instruments and the legendary & brilliant music, and Adam Lambert was the perfect choice for the vocals, bringing his own spin and flair for the theatricality of much of Queen's music..." Etc.. etc..
:)))
Again, in my humble opinion, in this particular case, it doesn't help to criticize the author's choice of words. Because in all honesty, I saw nothing wrong with them, really.. At least they didn't state the over-used, to the point of hackneyed, phrase, "he's no Freddie Mercury".. And in reality, Adam IS standing in for Freddie, but certainly is still very much Adam Lambert, the extremely talented performer with his amazing voice and his own spin and interpretations.
There was no critique or slight or diminishing of Adam's talent, etc.. in the article that I could see. I PERSONALLY thought it was fine..
The mention in Variety was great and the whole evening seemed nice. Both Queen and Adam were shown respect and recognition and that's what we all want Adam to receive. The difficult job Adam performed was pointed out by the host and we need to be just as gracious. The majority of us are. Wanting more for your artist is not a bad thing, just the criticism on the web, which portrays Adam's fans as less than accepting, if it's not just as we'd like it.
I didn't realize that Sharon Osbourne, also got an award. A VIP award. I saw her accepting it, and making a lovely acceptance speech.
I do have to add that I understand why some fans are taken aback sometimes.. I've posted a few comments here and there over the years.. Always intended to show my appreciation for Adam as an artist, etc.. and sometimes to perhaps politely enlighten those who might not be aware of Adam's talents, accomplishments, or who have the facts about a particular thing obviously wrong/confused..
I feel that's fair, and I've seen articles where the information has been updated to reflect what the fans have shared. Done in a non-combative way, it can be very positive and productive...
I think what Shoshanna is getting at is that although we as a fandom mean well, and are indeed VERY passionate about our favorite guy, because he is so incredibly WORTHY and we seriously love him to pieces!!!, but at the same time it could actually be slightly counter-productive to always jump on every word and over-analyse each phrase.. We do want the authors of the blogs, articles, both big and small in scope and reach, and the media, to continue to talk about Adam.. and not just about his crazy fans.. Although we're very often referred to in a positive manner, and not negatively..
It's also true that some other celebs have fans who are every bit as passionate as we are with Adam.. And it doesn't seem to be a huge problem for those stars.. I think we just need to reflect well on Adam and his (general) philosophy of politeness, friendliness, graciousness, and well timed and sometimes pointed humor, when dealing with the media.. He's become a veritable master at that, especially in the past year. .. Following his lead, in most cases, is not such a bad thing..
But I also see @yada's comments as being very insightful and valid.. The PTB love "buzz" about a star, no matter what it is, and depend on enthusiastic fans to "buy" the product, which in this case, is Adam.. And we are certainly "enthusiastic"!!!
I think the bottom line, when commenting on articles is just to use some basic common sense, be respectful (even if it's hard sometimes..), but certainly at the same time, get your point across if you feel you need to address something..
Shoshanna also suggests that we get out our frustrations on fan sites (like this one), although again, respect and common sense should rule here as well! :))))
Excellent discussion. I posted earlier, and I agree that this sort of thing is not going to either bolster or derail Adam's success, opportunities & possibilities... I guess it's more that, hhhmm, how shall I say it - well, I guess I find it just plain and simple EMBARRASSING! Not for him so much I guess... just ... how shall I say it... I think that sort of thing, the OTT commenting and defense of Adam, runs the risk of making him the butt of jokes, yes, that's what bothers me most about these sort of occurrences. As was well said here already, the OTT commenting and Shosh's position on it, and all of that "stuff" is not going to strip Adam of any opportunities, I don't fear that... I just become concerned that this sort of thing deepens the possibility for jokes about him and/or overshadows the incredible talent that Adam possesses. Glitzy used the PERFECT word - WORTHY - Adam is so worthy of success in the industry... a silly sidenote of ridic fans doesn't need to be attached to his bio. I know I am being a little OTT myself, I acknowledge that, I get it and own it... but most reading here will probably know what I mean and how I feel. However, having said all of that, yada is correct, and I commented similarly on another thread somewhere this morning, that fandom passion usually translates into the OPENING OF WALLETS AND SPENDING OF MONEY, and TPTB absolutely track and take note of that sort of thing as well, so that part is great... I just wish fans could comment on VERY SENSIBLY written articles sensibly! IDK, just wondering out loud. :).
Wonder if Roger gets a trophy, he is part of the original Queen. He certainly deserves one.
Adam is a class act and he's finally reaping the well deserved and long overdue rewards. Adam never bemoaned the frustrating struggle for recognition, just continued to speak well of others and pursue his craft. I think the Classic Rock community acceptance is more prestigious in a way, than the pop music's world of continual same old same people, with enhanced sound.
Yada, Shosh would not have twice made comments about not wanting fans to do that if it didn't negatively affect Adam. Adam wouldn't have liked that comment either. They both are asking us to stop doing that.
I do not see the need to slip in a "subtle" correction. Just ignore the wording that wasn't good enough for you and leave a purely positive comment.
Bottom line, Adam doesn't need defending. He will do that himself if he feels it is necessary. Don't make his fans reflect poorly on him. Write a purely positive comment like you know he would prefer you do.
@Anon at 11:02AM.... I relate completely to all you've shared. Excellent points!
Glitzy... thank you for bringing us much clarity and sage wisdom on the issue. I think your post suggestion is an excellent example of a how to be heard effectively... and get positive attention to our specific ideas, concerns, and suggestions. :))
@Anon 5:52....
I agree, Anon! As fans (and first & foremost - people) personal integrity and sensible conduct reigns supreme. The internet is no exception. :))
11:02 here
I agree with 5:52 (and I think others here, upthread, commented similarly as well) that Sosh commented on this "topic" only after a long while of it unfolding, and when it got to be an issue of legitimate concern for her! I actually DO think she, & Adam at least once I believe, commented about the matter with great purpose & intent, meaningful and precise intent, with the actual hope of propagating change... affecting change among the fandom. JMO.
And as for the notion of using blogs such as this one to have discussions like this one - I do think it is a good idea as well, however, I also feel that these blogs are absolutely OPEN FORUMS, no mistake should be made about that, and even in this sort of setting, I think we should conduct ourselves and our discussions with an eye on Adam's career's well being. A little OTT on my end I guess, but that's just my opinion. :)
@Anon 6:34 AM
I agree with your comments..Thank you..
And to just add a few more thoughts to the discussion at large here (although this thread is probably more or less out of sight by now...).
To be completely frank and candid, the main reason the blog was closed to "anonymous" ie "non-signed in" commenting for a time (and as a result, unfortunately, some previously active participants were for one reason or another, unable to comment, and who are now able to do so, thankfully), was because of the "trolls", those who came here simply to bash and disrespect Adam, his friends, and those who posted legitimate comments.. To discourage the flagrantly disrespectful comments that seemed to be more and more common here.
We recently quietly opened it back up, with the hope that people will be respectful, that the obvious trolls have "left the building" and with the knowledge that, as @11:02 PM/@6:34 AM mentioned, this is most certainly an "open forum" for news, pictures, comments, and discussion about our beloved and massively talented sweetheart of a "muse" Adam Lambert.
Everything said here has the clear potential to be seen by other fans, (and non-fans), the media at large, friends and family of Adam Lambert, Adam's team, his label, his publicist, and Adam himself (most likely not, but who knows: he himself keeps close watch on his twitter feed, and he could wander in here for a look, because threads from 24/7 are sometimes put out there on Twitter.. Just fair warning!!!)..
Just about any time someone puts it out there on a Google search the words "Adam Lambert", "Adam Lambert 24/7 News" pops up on the first page. So it makes very good sense to use at least a modicum of respect and good sense when posting your thoughts and comments here.. This is not meant to dissuade anyone from stating their opinions, just a reminder..........
24/7 is a GREAT (and friendly and relatively "safe") place to "discuss" some of the media posts we see out there: the blogs, the newspaper articles, the concert reviews, etc.. We can comment in a silly manner, a serious manner, with a single word, a few words, or in depth.. It's all good! That's one of things that makes it interesting here..
You should also be aware that even here, there are limits to what we'll (the Admin/Blog Owner and her helpers..aka Admin Fan, myself, and occasionally BroddyBounce) allow to remain. Occasionally (quite honestly, RARELY) a comment is deleted if it is clearly from an internet troll or a hater.. Or shows extreme unwarranted disrespect for Adam, etc..
Personal note: I've been coming here from almost the beginning of this blog, and love hearing from fans all over the world! It's been an amazing almost SIX(!!!!!) years of being part of the Adam fandom... So excited to hear what's happening next for Adam!!!
