Who should replace Randy Jackson on season-14? THR's Idol Worship has a suggestion...

American Idol fans probably never imagined a day when Randy Jackson would no longer be "in it to win it," but so it seems for season-14 of the Fox show, the first that won't feature the former judge-turned-mentor.
With Tuesday's Jackson news, comes the inevitable question: who could fill those shoes when the show goes live? The short answer: Adam Lambert.
The season-eight runner-up is one of the most successful and loyal team players in the Idol family. He has already served in the position of mentoring and coaching Idols in seasons Nine and 13, respectively, offering truthful, candid, no-nonsense advice while at the same time serving a big brother role — he's been there, done that and seen it all.
Case in point: during season-nine, Lambert was invited to serve as a mentor during Elvis Presley week, the first former contestant to do so. His presence was at times brutal, telling finalist Andrew Garcia that his “Hound Dog” was “boring.” Other times, he gave just the right medicine for an ailing season. For example, Michael Lynche had been struggling and was on the brink of elimination before Lambert took the reins and guided him to use his storytelling skills on Presley’s “In The Ghetto.” That performance earned Big Mike a standing ovation and lengthened his run into the top four.

Won't Adam be in the middle of his tour, when he would be needed for Idol.

I would love it! Why? I'm selfish and I'm craving Adam on my television haha. Exposure isn't bad either. Look how much it has done to JLo's career!

Yes Adam do anything but your own solo music. Your 3rd album can wait longer. Thumbs up.

@12:11pm, You should examine Roll-outs and cross promotion and multiple project management of tops artist in the last 5 years... to NOT be launching music with about 3 other projects being promoted at the same time would be the anomaly! Watch current trends in new music launches!

Adam would be good but let's be honest he doesn't have a snowball chance in hell. The overall mix has to be diverse.

Adam can do it all! With all Adam's additional exposure, it is possible.

I used to say that AI is on the downswing, so Adam should avoid it, but hey, when opportunities come, it's a good idea to take advantage of them. IF this opportunity comes up, I say he should take it. He could work it into his schedule somehow. Every person who is not yet a fan should have the chance to get to know him and to like him. They're more likely to buy his music if they like him on the show, even as a mentor. He may not be offered the job anyway, but if he is, I say go for it. Positive exposure is priceless.

I think he could make that mentor position turn into something really fun and creative. Shake things up a bit. He's good at that.

Randy Jackson was a diverse overall mix? No. He did it twice last year was wonderful. First idol to ever do it the year after he was on the show. There is no doubt in my mine he the best man or person for that job. But, they may want to have a different celeb each week like they use to do it on Adams year who knows.
They sure went straight to Adam when they needed a judge seat filled temporarily.
He was asked this question when he was there to judge. He said he did not know he has projects on the front burner right now.
His album is almost finished so that's no problem. The live shows start end of February beginning March tour should be about finished by then. I think he would really help the show and bring more young people to the show and people of all ages. The Adam idol year was the best one ever in my opinion. If it happens it happens if it doesn't the it doesn't. It's their lost. Adams exposure with Queen has certainly helped his exposure. Winning best band of the year with Adam getting a statue as well is certainly a feather in his cap.
How many times I heard on here from am anon that he had not a snowball chance in hell for so much other stuff and did get to do it and did it brilliantly at that. Many, many times that's how many. Said it about Glee, the I Heart show the Queen tour so much more none of that was true.
If they do ask him he may not even do it. Sue

Just think about that "other Adam" who is a judge on The Voice.. he seems to manage to be on the show and also do new music, tour, etc.. And it sure hasn't hurt HIS career at all. Visibility is everything.

We know Adam will be busy with the Queen UK & EU concerts until the end of Feb., but that's also about the time we start seeing the live Idol shows.. And by then his album will surely be finished and ready to release.. And Adam could sing a new single..or two.. on the show :)) Not a bad way to do a little promo in a big way..

Not holding my breath at all, because we've heard nothing even remotely "official" about this, it's pure speculation, but if it by some miracle it happens, I'm sure Adam and his management will figure out the rest...

I know this is not a Judge position but It's still a very "visible" job.. and we could see Adam on our TV's twice a week (and more if we record it or watch it "On Demand") :))

Hard to say if he would get the job or if he is even under consideration, but what the heck!!!

Adam can definitely release and promo his new music while on Idol. The show doesn't take that much time. Plus all the other judges have used the show for promoting their new songs. Could be a good way for Adam to get more promo.

We would see very little of Adam on TV if he is a mentor. But this is just speculation by someone who knows nothing about it. I would hate to see him as a mentor, he deserves more than that. It certainly won't bring in any more audience.

I think it would bring in more audience. So many Adam fans have said they won't watch unless Adam is on. And if they actually give Adam some screen time with his advice I think even more would tune in to see that from a now successful former contestant. It would be a bonus to promote his new music there too. I think that is more his audience than old Queen fans.

Queen has gotten new fans in every generation throughout the decades since their arrival on the music scene!

There are 'old' Queen fans, meaning those who have been there from the the start, but more importantly there are millions and millions of Queen fans, new and old, in all age groups. For many it's a family thing, something that is shared over three generations etc.

Adam has reeled in so many of his fans to be Queen fans, too (mean those who who did not know or listen to Queen before)!

And Adam fans are the same, fans come from all age groups - although on this site and many AL fan sites the majority of fans are women of more mature age... myself included! :)))

So let there be light & love of the way the age of fans or the duration of how long they've been fans (of Queen or Adam or whoever) is being discussed here... Every act/performer needs more fans, not age discrimination nor jaded attitudes about age...

This thread is probably dead at this point, with so many newer threads, but still I want to say THANK GOODNESS for some voices of reason in this thread. I am not an Industry Insider and no longer even work remotely in the industry, but as a keen observer of pop culture, it is very easy to determine the cross promotional tools the most visible artists use nowadays. Not everyone can have absolute instant radio play like Beyoncé and Justin Timberlake ... but Adam Levine is a great example - He and Maroon 5 had success before Adam's gig on The Voice, sure, but that gig cemented Maroon 5 as being able to reap instant radio play the second they release a new song! They've recently released "Maps" & "Animals", neither one of them particularly great pop songs imho (although "Animals" is decent, better than "Maps" imho) but they both gleaned immediate airplay, and thusly will become decent hits ... make no mistake about it, Maroon 5's success is at the high level it is because of Adam's job on The Voice in large part.
