Since publicly speaking about his sexuality as a gay man while starring as a contestant on FOX’s American Idol, Adam Lambert has been one of the music industry’s top LGBT figures in the world today, and William Paterson University students agree.

This may be a small college online paper, but this writer has done a good job, and made a good case here and a great point. In my very humble opinion, Adam's remarks with Glamour UK, 'though maybe became a runaway train accidentally, and were maybe ill-timed, speak to Adam's feelings perhaps about "it shouldn't matter" just as the examples the author here uses. We can't just want Adam to speak his mind in the most white washed and bland of ways. Being who you are openly is a message that maybe can't always be delivered in a totally sterile way. Just my POV and I am hardly an expert, just thinking out loud. In any event, good for this young woman for writing this article, and good for this generation who continues to very quickly evolve in their seeing these issues as "it shouldn't matter".

In some countries it does matter.
Adam hopes that things will change, but I don't think in the past, it has helped his career, only hindered it, especially in the US. The UK is different, there are so many out gay people, it is just accepted, and for the most part, the non-accepting people in a lot of countries, it goes against their religious beliefs. The UK don't seem to be hampered with any religious beliefs.

Adam labeled himself, now he doesn't want the label, although he still speaks openly about himself being gay.

"Adam slept with Hollywood stars that aren't openly gay"

That's all the media is talking about right now

Anonymous said...

Not convinced that all those men he's been in contact with are thrilled about his announcement, gay or not.

Opening the can of worms sure got him headlines but how will that affect his future career?

Anonymous said...

Why is anyone surprised, Adam sleeps with anyone who is willing.
He doesn't care if they are out or not, he doesn't even care if they are gay or not. Sex is sex, and he wants it. He said once that he is not a whore, he said that meant he doesn't sleep with the person the first time they meet. Anyone who sleeps around has no morals and can be termed a whore. If the shoe fits wear it.

JAK said...

I don't care who my favorite singer (Adam) sleeps with.
I don't care who my favorite film actor sleeps with.
Nor my favorite chef, nor my favorite doctor, nor artist ... sleeps with. I just want all of them not to tell me.

Anonymous said...

then don't follow Adam Lambert JAK, cuz that's not how he rolls, something which, as you are not new to his fandom, you should probably have picked up on by now. I say that with total affection, I really do, but geez JAK, surely you have learned by now that Adam Lambert is indeed likely to talk about such things... if it's not palatable to you, you might continue to have a hard time reading fan-sites and entertainment news outlets and such covering him. Again, all said with affection, but calling it like I see it, as a long time fan myself.

Dee R Gee said...

JAK, I think lots of people who love Adam agree with you. I have my doubts about tabloid reporting anyway. Hope it all becomes old news and we can concentrate on the new music. I'm hoping you stay here as a fan for a long time. I think there is great stuff yet to come.

Imho you are missing the point.

A straight person is not OPENLY LABELLED heterosexual instantaneously ... and so a gay person should not be OPENLY LABELLED homosexual instantaneously. As we move forward, it should be a "meh, okay, whatevs" sort of thing. But that doesn't mean a gay person should be coy or not utterly open about it! IMO, no gay person should be shy about addressing the issue, addressing it absolutely head on, if the topic is brought up directly; to be shy about it makes it somehow different than a straight person addressing head on their heterosexual status if brought up directly, you see? (And if your reply to me on that thought is - well, that never happens, that's not a good example or analogy because a straight person is never called into question about their heterosexual status directly and head on - my reply to you would be - EXACTLY.) Just my perspective. I certainly don't know Adam, but I'd venture to guess that this concept might perhaps be part of his post-gay thought process that he publically speaks about. To use your own words April 27 12:21, Adam "still speaks openly about himself being gay", why should he not be open about it, if an interviewer addresses the matter head on? Should he be coy or evasive or ashamed? Should he dodge the subject if asked about it? Should Harry Styles or Ed Sheeran be cagey and dodgey about their heterosexual status, and their romantic lives too then, when they are asked about it, as they are? There is a difference imho in being very firmly labeled and boxed in to what that label is supposed to connote - a difference in that and simply talking about something freely and openly and proudly about oneself, something integral to one's being, when asked directly about it. I am certainly no expert, just my POV.

I work with hundreds of young college people and they spill the beans to me about EVERYTHING. I can get down right on their level and I never act shocked when they tell me ALL, and I mean ALL! Now, I am talking about 99% straight young men and women and some gay students. I remember the days when you at least got a great dinner, drinks and movie out of a hot date. Well, those days are gone. There is so much going on out there with our young people that I will not even mention, too many heart attacks might happen on this site. And, there are rarely dinners, movies and drinks involved. It is pretty much GIVEN AWAY without much else expected on either side. Please don't treat Adam as if he is just a sex addict or object, because your own "of age" daughters, sons or grandchildren are probably out there doing the same things Adam does. GAY sex always gets headlines. Straight sex is much more prevalent, but does not stir up the same interest. G-d help our Adam from the self righteous of the world, who also probably have many skeletons in their own closets. BTW, I love to hear tales from the 1960's when FREE LOVE was totally a way of life. I could tell you stories from the 1970's fashion world that would really get all the panties out there in a bunch! The more things change, the more they stay the same. BTW, I saw a video of Miley Cyrus when she held her microphone to her crotch, while in a supine position. Why do some of these young women artists get by with bloody murder and poor Adam must always be held accountable for his unruly words or actions? Margarita Lady

3:34 here, if it was not obvious already, I am obviously only speaking of people who want to talk about their orientation openly being comfortable with it if asked directly... obviously I am not talking about anyone who is not ready to be out feeling like they need to take up the torch for a the gay community or LGBT community if they aren't interested and ready, that is a matter of personal choice obviously. (Of course, that sort of plays into it I guess... because it shouldn't be a problem to "be out", that's part of the whole deal, that's part of our duty to evolve on the matter imo, to create an environment where it's non-plus, meh, whatevs, and thusly creating an environment where closeting oneself is never necessary). Again, no expert, not even close, not claiming to be, just a citizen of humanity.

Really? Again?? I think we and Adam have moved on from talking about the "gay" label.

Slightly off topic here but... It bugs me quite a bit that the media is having a field day today related to that one sentence stated by Adam in the Glamour interview. I don't think there was any calculation behind it as it likely was much more Adam being all open and honest and wearing his heart on his sleeves, again. Anything about sex attracts attention no matter how many lengthy articles there are about interesting new music.

So, again, the man who proclaims to be "post gay" has to face his sexuality as a pre-dominant issue again - in the midst of releasing new music, and one day ahead of his music video release. Ughh...I don't think it's going to "hurt" him sales wise, but it may be really annoying for him to talk about that old "label' again. I'm sure some closeted Hollywood celebrities are pissed off.

Does this scenario remind us of something?

Being Gay is nothing to be proud about. Being straight is nothing to be proud about. It is what it is. Sleeping around is nothing to be proud about, and bragging about sleeping with guys who are not out yet, is also nothing to be proud about. The word 'morals', should be taken out of the dictionary, there is no place for it any more.

Hi Gabi,

I just read this:

http://www.idolator.com/7590621/adam-lambert-sex-women-closeted-actors-gay

It actually made me feel better, it was kind of a, um, how shall I say it... like a more lighthearted take on the whole matter.

No one has ever said that the level of interest when Adam and Sauli broke up, bought so much attention, mostly to Adam. No one should be labeled, but it's just my thought that I felt this was such a perfect roll-out on the part of WB. It was all about the music, but something on Adam's part derailed, whether from going straight from Queen to doing his own music. People forget this is still a very young man, who has had a lot of pressure on him from so many directions, that it may have been a bit much. Some of the things Adam has said, doesn't seem to make a lot of sense in the scheme of things. This is his chance to stake his claim to superstardom, not who or what he's slept with.

@Margarita Lady, I value your comment so very much. Adam is Adam, and he is single, and he dates. So what? We all should know that he is not a virgin anymore. It just breaks my heart that his openness often puts him in a position to unnecessarily justify himself in order to do "damage control".

Gabi said...

@4:28 I can't disagree. Some of the things he said were a bit inconsistent. I think he always tries to be honest, but on the other hand there appear to be a lot of different forces pulling from within him. I do get the "broken" heart as revealed in the GT lyrics, but on the other hand he states that he is a happy and care-free single guy who hasn't really met anybody yet to spend his life with...There I said it. Timely discussion. (And I am not afraid to put my name on it). Yes, I adore Adam. I care more than I should, to be honest.

Dee R Gee said...

I'm hoping that this will all be old news when the new video comes out and the single really hits the airwaves officially. Get your fingers ready to do a LOT of repeat watching of the official GT vid. Ellen will be fun. She always is. And we'll see our first performance of GT.
"Been with" doesn't always mean in the Biblical sense. This could be making a mountain out of a molehill.

Re your comment, "I care more than I should, to be honest."

LOL, me too!! I posted several times here (don't feel like going back to look for my time/date stamps, sorry, I don't post with a tag, sorry again :)) and I just wanted to say ME TOO, and if you have time and interest, go look at the most recent 24/7 thread, it's called:

When Adam says 'been with' it is 99% 'slept with'. Now papps are going to check back and see who he has been seen with, or dated in the last 5 years or so. He should not have said that, big mistake. His foot should be quite sore by now, he has shot himself there enough times.

Just want to say as a woman who has had partners of both genders, I've never felt labeled. We just were people. Always felt love was love and I have 2 children, both of which happen to be gay, both men. Both know my history as did my family and it was never an issue. I liked the dressing up at the gay parties, but while my youngest son is probably more like me, the older son being more reserved, I realize they possibly went thru more than I did. Yes, Adam's success is important to me, as to others, but we've seen him go thru so many changes in a small amount of time. There's going to be some slips and falls along the way. All we can do is to support him, as we've been doing.

Adam needs to practice thinking B-4 speaking.

Anonymous said...

Less talking about closeted people he has been with would help with that.

Anonymous said...

We don't know what has prompted Adam to speak as he has lately. Adam may have his own personal reasons or think even though people know he's gay, that he is not getting support from the gay community. To be young rich and gay may not be as easy as it looks. We just don't know.

Anonymous said...

With respect, 33 is not a VERY young age.

@7:00 PM
Maybe smoking too much pot lately has loosened him. Doesn't it have this relaxing effect.

@4:28 PM
I totally agree. Except "this is still a very youn man". He is over 30 years old. For instance Justin Bieber is still a VERY young man, Adam is not.

Hardly anyone still thinks that Adam's heart was broken. He may be sad because he is unable to feel genuine love. His heart is empty (ghost town). But he loves music, his work, fashion, his house and car, freedom, night clubs, weed, sex, pretty boys and his friends. I believe Adam is currently happier than ever.
