He's a fashion icon in his own right, but Adam Lambert gets it from his mama. "When he was a kid, any kind of arts and crafts, anything to do with being creative, I always wanted to make sure he had anything you'd want," says Leila Lambert, an interior designer. "[Now] we have an affinity for shopping."

Leila is obviously a woman with good taste and as the article say's she has influenced Adam to have an eye with style. Looking at this photo though I can't help wondering what she thinks about Adam's ripped jean look I know it's a fashion statement but I would not call it stylish, I'd say Adam although influenced by his Mom, has his own ideas when it comes to what he wears.

Melody Chiu took a few liberties with this article. Leila said she shopped with Adam in high school. She did say they have an affinity for shopping, which means they both like shopping, doesn't necessarily mean together.
Melody Chiu said they love to go on shopping sprees together, Adam nor his mother said that. That is part of an article, that Adam is always saying that he is reported as saying something, but he did not say that. Reporters like to jazz up things to make the article interesting. He might go shopping with his mom, but not very likely, unless they are at a fashion show. Adam is quite close to his mom, but he is a grown up, and not in high school now.

Sharing a 'fashion passion' is one of my dearest memories of my mom. She was a seamstress extraordinaire. I would drag her to movies every Saturday afternoon and say "I want that and that and that." I would sketch and she would whisper "inverted pleats, dropped waist, gingham with cotton lace overlay" etc. etc.

My clothes were right out of MGM musicals or dramas or comedies.
When I go thru my many many photo albums, I can point at my clothes and say, Grace Kelly, Cyd Charisse, Lauren Bacall and dozens of others. I can name the movies as well as the stars whose wardrobes we 'borrowed'......best of all was Audrey Hepburn's lovely wedding dress in Funny Face. Every time I look at my wedding pictures I see our version of that sweet, simple dress.

Thanks Audrey.

Adam's mom probably hates the ripped jean look as much as my mom.

Adored your little story JAK, took me back to my childhood. My Mother and older Sister sewed beautiful little dresses and out-fits for me to.
Me, I can thread a needle, mend and hem a garment up by hand that's my lot. LOL.
Back to Adam I am so happy and excited for the way things are going with his new music. I am loving it. Well done, Adam you are tenacious and hungry and deserve all accolades.

Why do people hate his ripped jeans? Can anyone tell me a definitive reason why they would hate them, I actually kinda like them?

HaHa, When I was must younger and was going to college in the early 70's we would buy a pair of Levi button flys, throw them in the washer, pour bleach all over, run them through the cycle and wait to see what came out. I hoped for a light blue, white spots and some ripped areas because the bleach was particulary heavy in those areas. They came out pretty much like Adam's. What goes around usually comes back around!

I'm good with ripped knee jeans especially from a practical stand point. It must be lots easier to wear them more tight fitting and still be able to sit down comfortably.

There was a time when Adam wore knit pants, and he said he often had to buy ladies, because they fit tighter and had no fly. That was before Idol, and he was a bit underground. My goodness how time flies, and he has now up graded to torn jeans, lol

I have no doubts that Leila raised her son right, but fashion role model? Not buying it. Her wardrobe and overall looks have clearly changed since Adam became a celebrity, so I think Adam rubbed off on her more than the other way around. Nothing wrong with that, she looks fantastic. And I'm sure she likes Adam's jeans fashion. I certainly do :)

You don't know if she likes his torn jeans. But there is nothing she can do about it. Adam wears what he feels like wearing. Sometimes, nothing matches up, dress jacket, white tee shirt, and torn jeans. Adam follows trends, he doesn't set them.
