The Fusion Festival took place on Sunday, August 30th in Birmingham, England and the city's main newspaper, the Birmingham Mail, reviewed the show by way of two separate pieces: the standard review and a "12 Things We Learned..." pictorial. Of course, Adam was in both.
"The rain poured when heart throb Adam Lambert came on but things only got hotter in the audience..."

"Boasting a leather jacket, leather finger-less gloves and black painted nails, the American Idol singer thrilled fans with his hits Another Lonely Night and Whataya Want from Me." Love the positive Adam mention, so I hope I don't sound too negative here. But...couldn't they find a better title for Adam than "American Idol"?? How about "Queen frontman"? (May be they wanted to make sure to inform people where this new heart throb is coming from?). Also, did the UK decide to just skip over GT and focus on the next single instead? Okay. Good that they liked ALN :)
I'm glad he continues getting exposure in Europe cementing his International super star status.
I was there and Adam was spectacular. Very frustrated tho as no one under 20 knew who he was. Drop the American Idol references and get him some decent publicity. Im frustrated for him. He deserves better.
I agree. Sure, AI was important, but it's part of his past. I'd like AI to not be part of his intro anymore. Are Kelly C. and Carrie U. always introduced with a mention of AI?
Of course it is super frustrating that the press continues to dismiss him as the American Idol guy, despite knowing his years of solo and queen work. It seems almost intentional that they try to keep him insignificant and keep hyping the elite trash at top of the charts. Even at the festival they introduced him as AI's finest and nothing else apparently. Huh! Even if they call him the finest, labeling him as AI is very dismissive after 3 albums.
Do we complain to every one who calls him AI?
I can't believe the ignorance that surrounds this extraordinarily talented man. As fans we can support him as best we can but the press he gets just isn't good enough. Oh and he didn't even get a shoutout at the festival to say he was coming on later tho all the other acts did.
If I was Adam, I’d do interviews only under the condition there will be no mentions of AI. Also, I’m getting sick of “Freddie replacement”. Adam is his own man!
I would have never been able to have the patience of Adam, but he is the most humble nicest person. I would have punched that guy who said to him with a smirk “So, it’s the biggest gig of your life…singing with Queen?” After already saying 10 times that it was big shoes to fill for a “young lad” out of AI. I think even Brian and Roger are fed-up!
Even most die hard Queen fans don't think Adam is trying to replace Freddie. He's paying tribute to him but he's his own person. I bet Brian and Roger are fed up, its insulting. Adam has his own unique style and thats why his fans love him. The press need to catch up.
Not to mention referencing him as the "openly gay/out singer"...
Unbelievable how much crap he has to deal with!
So agree with all you guys, Hell we could do a better more interesting up to date interviews than half these "professionals"
Makes me so mad, But try to focus on the positive.
Do we really want him to be part of that circus they called the VMAs?
Dee R Gee, I recently saw a story about Carrie Underwood on one of the entertainment TV shows. They did intro her as AI winner. I giggled because I know people get upset when Adam is introduced as from AI.
I think it is just a quick and easy way to give people reference as to where Adam is from, so to speak. Adam always says nice things about Idol so I doubt he is upset by the AI mention.
No. It is just a cheap way to belittle Adam's work and not mention any of his solo work and success past Idol. Just labels tabloids think is provocative, like flamboyant, former AI runner up, Freddie replacement, gay singer, and formerly guyliner. Adam needs to stand up for himself and ban such tired talks in interviews.
Adam and his label are tired of it too. It just holds Adam back and keeps the world from considering him anything beside the gay Idol.
Well there is certainly something holding things back. what it is I do not know. Maybe some of the things you guys have mentioned. Lazy research and journalism, only picking out other peoples headlines from 6 years ago I'm at a loss.
Though here (NZ, Australia, Europe, Asia all love him, so what the Hell, mystery to me.
Wow, Craig. I just gave the fact about how Carrie was introduced and then my opinion. I didn't know you were in contact with Adam and his team to know their thoughts on it. Does Carrie and her team hate the AI label too? I do wonder how much angry fans negatively affect Adam's career.
I feel a bit frustrated today and it is re-assuring to come here and see that others feel the same way. Adam deserves better. And he knows it. But he is extremely gracious and I admire that. Luckily he doesn't put up with silly "gay" crap anymore when he does interviews. I am thinking about some lyrics in "Rumors" right now. He talks about envy, jealousy, and haterade, which are in a different context but still. Again, I try to think positive and keep in mind that he is doing really well looking at the big picture :)
The press need to keep up they are so out of touch with Adam and his fans. Maybe he's too nice at times. He must get very frustrated. As do his fans.
Yeah Gabi, not as much gay talk anymore but I still occasionally see in the media he’s called the out singer.
@Unknown, I’m not angry and I wasn’t angry with you. I am fed-up with the press. Yeah I’m quite in touch with Adam’s interviews. And, don’t worry...“negative” fans speaking the truth don’t hurt Adam, but over-positivity might as well hurt reality perspective. And, what definitely has hurt Adam is the press reducing him to the gay guy known for AI, and all the positional listeners who dismiss him because of it.
Literally introducing him as anything or nothing is better than any mentions of AI…pop star if not rockstar, Ghost Town singer, American singer, or just The singer Adam Lambert…At least if nothing is said about him, people who don’t know him will get curious to search him and see his songs. But, if they read he’s some AI alum, they just move on.
Don’t know what Carrie has to do with anything and how that makes anything better for Adam. But I’ll debate Carrie with you if you really want…if only I knew about her…but she’s an AI alum, and after all, I like most people don’t care to research AI singers…
BTW. This is a good one: http://mic.com/articles/117466/adam-lambert-is-still-seriously-underrated
Craig,
What Carrie has to do with it is that she is hugely successful and she is still introduced with the AI moniker. I doubt there is any bias toward using it for Adam when it is also used by a major network entertainment show for Carrie, arguably AI's most successful contestant.
Not that you would know who they are but I just googled Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry and read the first three news stories on them. Two of the three stories on Kelly called her an AI contestant or winner, all three on Carrie called her AI winner, all three on Chris called him an AI finalist or AI standout. It doesn't happen to just Adam, it happens to all of them.
Unknown,
How does 2 wrongs make it right? If Carrie had any potential as a global star or a hot superstar she must be upset too. Country in general easily sells, but she cannot have a wide appeal. She has a good voice and can sell records and that is the stereotype American Idol. She’s an all American princess type. AI winner is the best she could accomplish. Just because she’s a moneymaker doesn’t mean she has a lot of passionate fans, like I might have heard a song of her but didn’t know it was her or I have to yet hear her songs on the radio. Where are her fan bases out of Middle America anyway? Not that I care. I still don’t care to look up an AI. Sorry.
Kelly Clarkson has been her own brand and I have been seeing a lot of news about her music without any mentions of AI. She was on the first season of AI when it was a hot new show so she is the poster child of AI. Her name is going to come up as the first AI winner, but the coverage of her music is way more. I didn’t even know she was on AI for some time while I was hearing her on the radio 24/7.
Adam said he tries to change the subject when the interviewers talk about AI. And, people tell him they “loved” him on AI as if he’s not doing anything new.
The other day I told someone about the TOH and she said, “Adam the AI guy has music? Haven’t heard of him doing anything beside AI. Why doesn’t anybody talk about it?”
I never care to look up AI singers myself and refused to check out Adam while on AI despite all the hype because I thought how different could he be…he got to be another karaoke singer. I finally clicked on a headline because of a picture of him with KISS in his outrageous costume.
And, can you bring up anyone more irrelevant than Chris Daughtry? Just give up. I have a feeling you are alone in being flattered by the AI label. How about you send Thank You letters to the press for continuing to introduce him as an AI contestant…
Craig, thanks for being close minded, condescending, insulting and ridiculous.
The only angry, condescending, ridiculous one is you Mr/Ms unknown. What's wrong with you?
