ADAM LAMBERT "Ghost Town"

Top 40: #23 (LW: #24)

Hot AC: #18 (LW: #16)

AC: #33 (LW: #29)

(LW="last week")

NOTES:

1.  'GT' has moved back up to its previous highest-charting position on Top 40 where it was two weeks ago (and, like above, had been at #24 the previous week).   The single has maintained its momentum on that all-important chart and continues increasing spins.

2.  Despite the two-notch drop on Hot AC, the single is still getting increased spins on that format and, as with Top 40, may very well move up that chart again.

3.  Last week we inadvertently neglected to point out that GT was in the Top 30 on all three charts for the first time.  It could conceivably happen again if spins increase on the AC chart and the song remains relatively stable on the other two charts in the coming weeks.

I am now hearing Ghost Town on the radio a lot lately. Maybe it took awhile to catch on in the Midwest and will start to climb.

Well, the goal should be to get GT into the top 20 of the Top 49 chart. That would be a great milestone. That song just keeps on jugging. Amazing! Download, buy, Spotify, whatever. Go little Ghost Town, go!

Thanks so much for keeps us up to date on all of this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Kath, I've had the same experience with hearing Ghost Town more consistently on the radio. I only listen occasionally when I'm in my car, but I heard it on a Chicago station around 7:00pm on Friday, and again around 5:00pm on Saturday. Both times the DJ announced the name of the song and said it was by AL! I'm taking this as a very positive sign that Ghost Town can continue to rise.

Meant "chugging." LOL I'm going to get back to Spotifying GT. Have to admit that I haven't don't it in a while. Krismidas, so cool that you've heard GT on the radio with an ADAM MENTION! I have to admit that I don't regularly listen to music radio, but I'm an thrilled at GT's persistence.

I posted a comment before about a week or so ago but I'll mention it again that I heard GT two days in a row here in L.A. On 102.7 KISS FM ( biggest station in L.A.) at the 12:00 noon hour and 5:00pm with an AL name mention! Just yesterday my 11year old granddaughter told me she heard GT on KISS two times in the last two days.....fantastic news!

By the way, I hope I'm doing my part....streaming GT on Spotify a few hours a day when I'm home :)

@Kath: Great to hear that! Indeed, here in the San Francisco Bay Area where we have three Top 40 stations and two Hot AC stations, they were all "early adopters" of the song -- started playing it pretty much when it came out and have continued to play it to this day, staying on their playlists longer than even some songs that went Top 10 but have already fallen off airplay, which I think is a pretty great accomplishment -- it has "staying power"..! :)

Ok, admittedly, for some reason, two of the four Top 40 stations ONLY play the song on the overnights and have been doing so for months, after initially having played it round-the-clock for the first several weeks of release then moving it to the "nightshift" -- but I'll take it! The 3rd Top 40 is a smaller station that is obviously a huge Adam supporter, having played it practically once per hour round-the-clock -- although, oddly, just a couple of days ago, the station completely closed down. :( Huge loss.

This past weekend I heard GT during the overnight played on both Top 40 stations and both Hot AC stations all in the same hour! JOY!

Sorry, meant my "Great to hear that!" comment to also apply to @krismidas and @CT! This is all fantastic news, guys! :) And, now I am hopeful that the US gets ALN very soon so Adam can have two singles on the radio which, as I have commented before, is the "new thing" that record co's are doing now (e.g., Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran, etc.) and what Adam deserves, too. From what I hear on the radio (because I really do tune in to all those stations, flipped back and forth, to catch GT), one single supports the other and does not necessarily detract, as I think has been a longtime fear the labels may have had.

broddy, I agree. A new single can feed off the strength of the first one, but it works both ways. A strong second single can raise awareness of the first one to those who hadn't been paying attention. It can be a very beneficial circle. I hope ALN (if that's the second single in the U.S.) comes out while GT still has lots of steam.

@broddybounce, which SF stations are you talking about? I know that 5 stations adopted GT early on and San Jose 106.5 has jumped on the wagon only recently, but as my radio listening/feedback has been very flaky over the summer I am interested to know which ones are still spinning it reasonably and are worth paying attention to. This past Sunday I heard GT while shopping at the SF Sports Basement and 30 minutes later they played WWFM. Couldn't make out which radio station it was. Later on in the car some DJ (I think it was on Star 101.3) said something about his "favorite" Adam Lambert in the same sentence as mentioning Ed Sheeran. I was too distracted again to pay close attention.

About the single in general. I think we need to give it our all to still nurture this baby as it will set the path for the next single :) I do stream on repeat on Spotify and Adam's Youtube channel in separate windows. And I will try to gift some more and finally order that vinyl.

Hey Gabi! Great to hear from you and to hear your stories above. I love that you heard GT...and then WWFM -- awesome! As for 106.5, I used to be able to hear it clearly here in SF on my car radio, but can't seem to as much anymore, and thinking they had to reduce the strength of their signal a bit to cut costs maybe.

Ok, so, apologies to folks who've subscribed to this thread for what is going to be a very specific and localized answer for Gabi:

TOP 40:

99.7 NOW and WiLD 94.9: Plays a few times during the overnight, but we're generally talking in the 3am, 4am, 5am hours (yah, I'm up late, driving), but sometimes on Sat/Sun they'll play it early evening, as well. Both of these stations have a local (or syndicated?) DJ that spins their own mixes on-air on Friday & Saturday nights and several times during the summer I've heard GT mixed in, including some of the remixes. But I don't think those guys have been including it in recent weeks.

92.7 REV-FM: This is the station that had been playing GT what appears to be once every hour, or could be once every 2 hours, but still VERY frequently. BUT... unfortunately, this is the station I was referring to that JUST closed down, like 3 days ago. The signal is still there, but it's totally silent. It's too bad -- they definitely appeared to be fans of Adam's music.

HOT AC:

ALICE 97.3 -- HUGE supporters of Adam, as you probably know, and of course Adam headlined their annual Summerthing concert in Golden Gate Park in 2012. They probably play GT once every 2-3 hours maybe? Could be more frequent. Not sure if you knew this, but they wanted Adam for this year's Summerthing to headline with Kelly Clarkson but it turned out Adam already had plans in NY for Gay Pride that weekend. It's too bad because would really have been a great thing for Adam. Ah, timing.

STAR 101.3 -- they've been playing it pretty regularly, as well. Possibly a tad less than Alice, but not entirely sure. I'm a bit more of an Alice fan as I like their playlist better.

So, the fact it's still playing on all of the four stations it could be playing on in the Bay Area since its release on April 21st, even if it's only overnights on the Top 40s, is pretty darn cool. I'm hoping that if the song continues to increase nationally that the Top 40s will increase their spins here, too.

@broddybounce, Thanks so much for the very detailed feedback on SF radio and, likewise, apologies to other visitors of this thread for hijacking it. But it's all for Adam ;)

I'm not surprised about the decreasing spins at NOW and WILD. At least they have supported GT quite a bit (more than any other Adam single before, I believe). ALICE and STAR have been so good to Adam and I'm so happy to learn that they keep supporting the single :) I know that Jayne at Alice is a huge fan, but I had no idea that they wanted Adam back for The Summerthing. That would have been quite a treat for us SF fans as I remember how cool Adam's performance was 3 years ago at the beginning of the TP era. @broddy, you are quite a night owl! But thanks for doing "late night radio patrol" on behalf of us local Glamberts. Really appreciated. Are you an Uber driver? I will try to listen more to radio again and focus on Alice and Star (which have been my favorite stations anyways), and if I hear GT I will make sure to thank them on twitter (My twitter: "Gabi"/@backinHollywood)

Hey Gabi! You are welcome! Actually, I'm not so sure the spins have decreased at NOW and WiLD in recent times -- the "overnight only" airplay has been going on probably since sometime in June but, I must say, it's been pretty consistent throughout the entire summer. Just when I think, oh, they must have completely taken it off the playlist -- it plays! As I mentioned previously, all four stations played it, almost in succession, one recent "wee hours" morning.

Yes, Jayn (as she spells it) is a big fan -- I think she's Asst. PD and seems to be the one who asked Adam's peeps about Summerthing. I had a little back-and-forth with her via e-mail about it. I asked why they didn't ask Adam to come back to Summerthing, given the success with the previous one and given his new single/album -- and she replied that they did! -- but he couldn't. I remember in 2012, he had to fly in from overseas, I think London, to make it, and I think he was a bit jetlagged. This time, he had the Marquee Nightclub appearance in NYC (and something else?), although I'm not sure he had anything the night before, but I guess he just wanted to be in NYC for Pride.

It's too bad because I think the Bay Area is particularly supportive of Adam, and especially with his getting through on Idol here. I remember when he did Glamnation at The Warfield (were you there?) -- the line/queue was INSANE! Wrapped way around the block. I loved seeing that.

And...yes, you got it, I am a Lyft & Uber driver! I've mostly done the "graveyard" shift but trying to get back to at least slightly more normal hours. But it does give me the chance to scan back and forth between the four (use ta be 5) stations in hopes i hear GT during the overnight. Oftentimes I'll get there when the song only has about 30 or even 15 seconds left! But at least I know it was played.

Thanks, Gabi -- this was fun! :)

Gabi said...

@Broddybounce, yes it's been fun!!! Would be lovely to meet you in person some time. And... of course I was a the Warfield during Glamnation. Great memories! Adam even signed my Rolling Stone Magazine and the cd cover at the barricades after the show :)

Hey there @Broddybounce and @Gabi! As a BayArea gal myself, it was good to hear all of this info. I was really hoping for Adam at Summerthing this year. Gabi and I actually met up for QAL in San Jose (what a blast that was) and I was at The Warfield but for Jingle Ball and then Summerthing among others which were all amazing of course. I will never how great Adam looked and sounded at Summerthing after flying in from London just for this performance!

daydreamin said...

Forgot to mention that 106.5 played GT recently but they were a recent add so I'm listening more often there now.

broddybounce said...

Hey @Gabi and @daydreamin! I was at SJ too -- yup, definitely a blast! -- and at the Jingle Ball -- that was the one where it was Adam and OneRepublic, right? Adam's performance was much too short :( and, a surprise to me, I actually didn't care for Ryan Tedder's performance style and left after only a few songs (although still like a lot of their songs and his songwriting -- "Sleepwalker" as one example, of course!).

I meant to mention in my last comment, Gabi, that I did try again to get 106.5 up here -- and, lo & behold, I can! Not everywhere, but many places, and so now I have it on as a preset and will continuously scan for GT airplay!

Also -- when you got your RS signed at the barricades -- did you see Neil? I thought it was so funny, when I went to check things out there after the show, Neil was there looking VERY stoic and very protective -- this was before Adam came out. But I thought....impressive! :) I hope Adam brings Neil along again on the TOH tour.

And...again, last night, 3-4am hour, GT on 101.3 and 94.9!

Would love to get together with you two sometime! Feel free to drop a note at broddybounce at yahoo dot com.

Hello again @Gabi and @daydreamin (and, again, apologies to whomever else is subscribed to this comment thread)....

A quick update on GT in the Bay Area...

At first, at the beginning of Labor Day Weekend, I actually thought all of the stations, except 106.5, were done with GT -- I wasn't hearing it, definitely not on Friday. But then I heard it mixed in to the DJ's mix on 997 NOW on Saturday night AND a regular full spin at a very reasonable 8:30pm on Sunday night. I subsequently heard it on the other Top 40, WiLD 94.9, and the other two Hot AC's, 100.3 and Alice -- and, yes, San Jose's 106.5.

And last night they had a DJ spinning on the air again, who played a fantastic remix, just not sure which one -- or if he created it himself. I hope I can find out. But lovely to hear it. And nice that the song that followed was by the Brit artist Adam met twice in the past week -- Jess Glynne (at Fusion Fest) and then at that radio station in France, where we posted that IG photo).

And, I wanted to share with you: turns out that 92.7 REV -FM is back on the air! It was temporarily off for several days, although don't know why (they didn't pay their bills?) but is now on in full force --- and playing GT regularly again! Unfortunately, if you live in San Jose(?), you pretty much can't pick it up -- only on the Upper Peninsula, in SF and East Bay -- but it's great to have another true Adam-supporting station back on the air! If you do get a chance to tune in, despite their weaker signal, they have EXCELLENT sound (when you are able to get them) -- and GT sounds amazing! For the middle chorus where you hear the plucking of a bass rather than the "tom-tom" drums, the bass is deep and rich -- much fuller sounding than on any other station -- and that has made one that part of GT one of my favorite moments of the song.

You guys been hearing it at all this weekend?
