The proudly gay singer/songwriter is known for his signature smokey eye makeup and funky wardrobe choices. When we watch his elusive black & white video for “Ghost Town,” we can’t help but think of George Michael’s iconic song and video “Father Figure.” Lambert, who issued a R.I.P message to Michael on his Twitter account, also did a stellar cover of his hit song “Faith” this year at American Idol’s “Greatest Hits” show in August.

George Michael's peak was in a time of struggle for gay artists, far more than it is now. He hid sexuality for quite a while, but then came out, somewhat defiant but probably very relieved. Things are getting better, but it takes a long time for cultural attitudes to shift. Adam's choice to come out to the whole world BEFORE his first album was a courageous move. Doing that might have doomed George Michael from the start. We'll never know. I'm just glad he have Adam, out and proud and honest.

And I do hope that Adam can somehow be a part of the Grammy tribute to George. It's very fitting. Either a duet with someone or a solo. A perfect homage.

George Michael was never with a man till he was 27 years old. He has said he was with women before that because he thought that was the way it had to be. He had an uncle who committed suicide because of his (the uncle's) sexual identity. Because of that, George's mother was in constant fear that George was gay. It's just sad all the way around. Oddly, George Michael was the one whom Brian May said gave him goosebumps because he sounded so much like Freddie Mercury at the tribute concert.

If Adam does a cover of any of George's music, my pick would be One More Try...perfect for Adam's voice, and I know he would make it his own.
