I love this! If Adam sees it, chances are he'll want to wear it on the QAL tour. Now THAT would be something to behold!

I know there is no thread for this, but I just have to vent a bit about Elton John's new two-album project that includes a ton of big-name singers performing his songs. Eber tweeted yesterday that someone should have suggested to Elton that he choose Adam to sing "Saturday Night's Alright." PERFECT CHOICE, IMO.

This is an example of Adam somehow getting left out (too often, IMO) from a lot of "special project" sorts of things. His voice is widely praised and he is a dream to work with. It puzzles and frustrates me so much.

Just read that Katherine McPhee (who is lovely and has a lovely voice too) is working with Josh Groban, Andre Bocelli, and some others on a special performance project. I would love to see Adam get approached for more things like this. He's done a few, but he has been largely untapped when it comes to good, high-profile special gigs. I do not mean that he has to become more like Josh Groban (who I like). Heaven forbid that Adam should not be himself in all his glory. But I think he would fit in perfectly in many projects that he is not part of.

In my perfect dream world, Elton would read Eber's tweet and say, "Of course! Adam would be perfect! I'm going to get him to join the project!" Well, maybe next time.

I had read Eber's tweet yesterday too, and the same thoughts came to me... All of the singers/artists who are participating on Sir Elton John's new album project are fine (truly!!) and I approve. BUT it was a bit disconcerting (to me..and clearly to Eber, and others) that Adam was conspicuously absent (to us...) from the list of included artists.

It was to me, honestly, more than a bit puzzling. We know Adam and Elton are well acquainted with each other, but it's so odd that Adam has been (as far as we know, and certainly Eber would know for sure..) left out. We know that Adam is more than worthy of not only singing the classic songs of Elton John's, but as has been previously said "he can sing the phone book". So it's a mystery to me "Why??"... Maybe "availability" issues (I prefer to go with that....) but who knows..

So why he was left out, I don't know. 😕 Sigh.

There are SO many collaborations these days.. One that comes to mind that I LOVE is the duet between Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli "Perfect Symphony" here:

https://www.vevo.com/watch/ed-sheeran/perfect-symphony-(with-andrea-bocelli)/GB1301700803

Another one is Ed Sheeran with Beyonce "Perfect Duet" (160 million views and counting...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=817P8W8-mGE

Although Adam is our guy, we know he's amazing, he fronts Queen, etc.. etc.. I would LOVE for him to get a collaboration with another singer/singers, one (or more) who is willing to share the limelight with Adam, preferably (in a perfect world) one that is on a par with Adam's vocal abilities. As @Dee R Gee said in her comment above. For instance Gosh Groban and as I mentioned here, Andrea Bocelli. I have loved those two incredible artist for years and Adam has the same vocal abilities as they do. We just don't always have to opportunity to experience them with his own music. His operatic voice is superb. Not many outside of our fandom know that.. OR even just a great collaboration with a currently popular singer like Ed Sheeran, who I also like.

Yeah, I can anticipate the comments about "the other singers don't want to have Adam sing with them because....", an oft spoken "reason"/excuse why we don't see those collabs with Adam, but Ed Sheeren clearly was not afraid to be out-sung by Andrea Bocelli, the man with the absolutely wonderful operatic voice, so again, what do they have to lose by including Adam? Nothing..... absolutely nothing.

Just my 2 cents 😊

Dee R Gee....I know how you feel. The urge is to have Adam appear, contribute, participate in, and be invited to every conceivable situation that would bring him before the public (and Glamberts) 24/7.

I suppose if we ALL had our way, Adam would be "worn to the nub"! We all need our Adam "fix"...all the time.

All that attention to him will be happening ....and probably already has to a larger extent than we know about. He has to juggle commitments, schedules and time to create and record....while still husbanding his voice and energy to avoid injury and burn-out.

The LAST thing we need to do is to have Adam think we are disappointed in him for under-performing or letting his fans down. My God...he has been fronting Queen for some grueling, massive, arena filling tours just for starters...to world-wide accolades!

Happily, he should be comfortably financially secure now...and can set his goals for longevity. THIS "shooting star" will NOT flame-out!

Nanbert said...

BTW... an nice album for Adam would be to do a "cover album" of "favorite" songs...Broadway, Classics, Ballads, etc...that really show off his remarkable voice.... to bring him before a broader audience.....and then get it played on radio...often!

On that thought...how about an album of well-known songs by some of the top "Divas"...real belters! Adam could re-visit his demonstrated AI talents of making a well-known/loved song into his OWN....to remind people how astonishing he is!

@Nanbert

Playing "devil's advocate" here, but...

As I recall, back in the day, Adam firmly said "no" to the "suggestion" by his record company at the time of doing a covers album. They were demanding he do it, and he was firm in his rejection of that idea and as a result he left the label and was promptly snatched up by another label i.e. Warners. Perhaps someday Adam will be amenable to a covers album but guessing now or the near future will not be that time.

Pretty sure we fans would love it (most anyway).. not so sure it would get him radio play however. Current songs are what get that radio play for the most part.

But in a perfect world, Adam singing EVERYTHING would be WONDERFUL!

The two Elton John tribute albums in question will be released on April 6. They are called "Revamp) which is a pop/rock urban genre. The second album is called "Restoration" and it's country-based. Both albums are at full of A-list singers singing Elton's songs. I think the album will be great with or without Adam's inclusion. The Grammy tribute concert for Elton will be on April 10.

As for Adam, I always try to be a glass half-full person. He has done amazing things in his career so far, and there will be more great things to come. I just can't help being frustrated by opportunities that seem to pass him by. His voice is well-respected. He's a dram to work with. Simply put, he must not be A-list enough. It would be different if he had a string of #1 hits under his belt. I realize that it has nothing to do with his vocal ability. That's a given. And Elton is aware of that. But these albums can't have everybody on them. Not every big name is performing on them. I guess I need to calm down and be happy that A4 is in the works and should be a big hit for Adam.

And Nanbert, you and I see eye to eye on just about everything, but I'm not sure I'm ready for a "classics" covers album from Adam. Not for quite a while anyway. JMHO. Thanks you all for your "therapy" to calm me down. I needed it today!

Interesting Adam looking exotic, but nice! I've read everyone's posting here in regards to Adam not being asked to collaborate with others. I agree with ALL!!!! One day these projects WILL come to pass for Adam! I believe the Universe has more greater things in store for our SUPERSTAR ROCK GOD!!!!!!

Nanbert said...

glitzylady and Dee R Gee... Yes, I remember the time Adam turned down the "covers" idea..and even left the recording company over it....but I'm pretty sure that was over an 80's Rock album, wasn't it?

Oh well....it's selfish of me... it's just that there's so many songs I'd love to hear Adam's interpretation of...surely I'm not alone in that.

And Dee R Gee...you're welcome for my "therapy"...haha....But my "calming you down" might be better described as putting you to sleep....I am, after all, very long-winded!LOL

I'm a huge fan of Elton John but I won't be buying the "Revamp" nor the "Restoration" albums. I'm a purist when it comes to my fave singers & I much prefer to hear ELTON sing his OWN songs than other artists singing cover versions of them, no matter who the artist is, & I feel exactly the same about Adam's songs .... original artists singing their original songs.

I did listen to a preview of a duet of a song of Elton's on the "Revamp" album. Don't know who the artists were but but I didn't like their interpretation of it at all.

Oh dear, only 1 "but" i.e. ".... but I didn't ...." in the final sentence.

LAMBERT Outlaw said...

I'll just put in my 2 cents here .. whenever ADAM sings another singer's original song ... now mind you this is just MY opinion from MY point of view ... no matter how wonderful the original is/was ... somehow .. for me ... it no longer gives me the same feeling that it did before ADAM put his "LAMBERT-esque" spin on it ... and even though I still like the original .. I prefer to hear ADAM sing it!! "Faith" .. WWTLF .. Stay .. Tracks of My Tears", etc. So maybe THAT is part of the reason he wasn't included ... next to ADAM ... everyone else loses their "luster"!!

Let's face it folks ... once ADAM sings a song .. he OWNS it!!

EXACTLY Lambert Outlaw!!!! I agree 200% with everything you said. With all due respect to the other artists originals, Adams versions of these songs are better. Adam can out sing ANY artist!

Dee R Gee said...

Outlaw, I totally agree, too! He never "ruins" a song by doing a cover of it, like some singers do. He just makes it even better. That's a rare thing. He's perfect.

Nanbert said...

Me too...but we ARE very prejudiced towards Adam, aren't we? That voice is so unique.

Besides, music "outlives" its original composer/performer. During my lifetime there have been hundreds of much loved songs that have been sung over and over by many performers.

It's expected of iconic music....the kind that gives us goosebumps and chills....that makes our hearts grow full...that brings tears to our eyes....that cheers us up....that makes us proud...that we fall in love with... that makes life better....etc., etc.

As Lambert Outlaw said..."once Adam sings a song...he OWNS it!!"

I stand by my previous post. I'm not into my fave artists' songs being butchered by cover versions. Occasionally there'll be good ones but in the whole world of music, that rarely happens.

Different strokes for different folks.

Nanbert said...

fluttsp....for you, maybe it's like the difference between one recipe and another. Many usually prefer the same seasoning in a favorite dish that they are accustomed to eating ...and often find a change of seasoning less pleasing in most cases.

That said...it's a bit harsh to automatically accuse songs of your fave artist as "being BUTCHERED by cover versions". One man's "trash" may be another's "treasure".

As you said..."different strokes for different folks", but... no offense meant...a bit of flexibility is useful when judging talent and artistry, IMO.

Anonymous said...

No, it's nothing like you've said, Nanbert. Furthermore, I'm entitled to my opinion, just as you're entitled to yours.

Nanbert said...

I never said you weren't entitled to your opinion. Very sorry if I stepped on your toes...I just thought "butchered" sounded surprisingly "uncompromising" for you. You're always quite open minded and flexible.

As you say then..."Different strokes for different folks"...always, if that's the way you prefer it. Peace!
