Rickey Minor mentions Adam Lambert in his new interview

Here are the Adam parts from the interview:

What of the criticism that Lee is a weaker singer than Crystal Bowersox?

It’s the same thing that happened with Adam [Lambert] and Kris Allen. At this point, it’s about what the people want and it’s not about who’s the better singer, and the public is gonna buy the record of the person that they like the most, and it was really close. But with something like “Idol,” you have to be really into Crystal or into Lee and what he represents. So in large part, the voting may or may not have been due to the actual singing, but the personality. And I like them both. I like Crystal’s dreads, she’s got a baby, I’ve got a baby -- I’m a single mother too, you know… There’s no rhyme or reason for the winner, and I said it to both Lee and Crystal, whether or not you’re crowned as the American Idol, you've won.

Has there been somebody over the years that you've really connected with musically?

Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert. Carrie, because she had never done anything and it was a total trust factor. She’d always lean into me and say, “Is this what I should do? OK, thank you, I'll do it.” So there was never any push back. Even now, there’s still such a level of comfort and respect. And Adam, in the same way, was always gracious, and thanking the band. He and Carrie were of the few that thanked the band. She was so green, but Adam came from theater, from music and recordings, so he knew what his direction was. He and I had probably the most e-mail and phone traffic of all the contestants.

You would correspond directly with the finalists regularly?

In the Top 10, they all get my e-mail and phone number so that they can get the chance to communicate me. It’s important that I be accessible, not just when they see me at rehearsal. It’s part of the job because there’s a commitment to excellence, which can’t be achieved if I’m incommunicado. So Adam would always have ideas floating in his head. We'd try stuff and I would even do a mock up of it and send it to him. We'd go back and forth until the minute we get to rehearsal on Monday and it’s a lock -- we know what we're doing. So he was proactive and I enjoyed that.

Congratulations to Rickey with his new gig at Leno's. He was so fab on Idol. No Simon, Paula, Rickey. No way it's ever going to be the same. Maybe Idol it's time to fold your tents.

Adam is a true professional. I love that he always had ideas floating in his head. It shows, doesn't it??????

Wish" E" would air Ricky's respect and admiration for Adam's talent and professionalism instead of their snarky comments. Adam's goodness will always in the end come back to him, like Ricky's more believable, personal opinion of who Adam really is. I'm sure he'll always be in favor of Adam appearing on Jay's show. He's a good friend for Adam to have and Adam is worthy of Ricky's respect. funbunn40

This man has so much class. I'm glad he emphasized Adam's politeness to thank the crew all the time.

It's a shame they had nothing to say about this being Ricky's last season on Idol. It was all about Simon. I guess they forgot who makes the contests sound good and were more interested in the one who tears them to pieces. It takes great talent to do what Ricky does. It just takes a lack of sympathy to do what Simon did most of the time. Simon may have been right about a lot of his observations, but he also could have been a little less obnoxious. Ricky just seems like just a geniunely nice person who cares about the contestants as people just trying to make a go of their dreams. Can't knock him for that and there should have been more recognition for it Wednesday. I just watched Jay Leno give Kevin Eubanks a BIG sendoff. He will miss the guy a lot. AI's loss is Leno's gain.

I love that Rickey named Adam and Carrie as both his favs. <3

IMO Simon has made a name for himself by being blunt (obnoxious to you and me) and having no filter (rude to you and me). That is who and what he is and always will be on tv. There are and always have been people on tv that we tune in to watch because we hate them so much. We can yell at the tv and vent our anger in the comfort of our own home.

I've loved sports all my life and back in the early 60's a New York lawyer was hired to do sports broadcasting. He covered boxing and football mainly. People hated him and wanted him dead or loved him and wanted his praises sung from the highest rooftops. His tv career lasted for over 40 years and it was the love/hate relationship from sports fans that made him last as long as he did. His name was Howard Cosell, he was not good looking and his voice was very annoying, but folks kept tuning in to hiss him or kiss him.

Do you watch any other reality show besides Idol hoping that someone you don't like will be kicked off? That's why some people watch Idol...to yell at or cheer Simon; they could care less about the contestants.

Personally with Paula, Simon and now Rickey Minor gone, I think that Idol will see Season 10 be it's last.

I agree that Rickey should have been given some acknowledgement by the show, but that proves to me that there are classless people in show business and that the show was really all about Simon.

10:51 I totally agree with you. And Rickey chose his favorites for completely opposite reasons. Carrie didn't know what to do and needed his help. Adam knew exactly what he wanted and needed his ok. Love and respect. Respect and love.

Way off topic: Does anyone know why Kevin Eubanks left Leno?

I'm really excited to see Rickey on Leno - hope he cuts up and interacts with Jay like Kevin does!

What wonderful comments Rickey has to say about Adam. Rickey has obviously done a fantastic job on AI. Add the lack of AI's proper acknowledgement to the long list of "WTF's" regarding the finale. I still can't believe the difference in quality and content from Season 8's finale to Season 9's. It's almost like they're trying to kill themselves!! (Chicago? Really?? And I graduated high school in the 70's and loved Chicago, but still ... )

Hope Season 10 isn't Idol's last, but it very well could be. Anyway, so grateful that Idol has been around and given us such wonderful entertainment and discovered such wonderful artists like Adam (and Carrie, although I'm not a fan of country music, I am so proud of her super-stardom!). I hope AI can be saved!

To each his own, but I think Simon was rude and obnoxious on Idol. He was the reason I stopped watching it over the years until my kids watched season 8, and I saw Adam. I litrally fell off the sofa when I saw Adam perform "Satisfaction" and I now I will be a fan for life.

I thought it was a real snub on the finale not to mention Ricky Minor and the his band. Adam always thanked them after he performed. Both class acts.

I love how Adam is recognized by his peers as a honest talent and a true, grown-up professional. Adam is on of the few idol contestants that truly earned their living performing before Idol. Makes a difference.

Ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller is leading a consortium bidding to buy the company that owns the rights to hit TV show American Idol.
A company owned by Mr Fuller created the Idol franchise but was sold to CKX Inc in 2005.
Now he is heading a group of investors reported to be offering $600m for CKX.
American Idol has run for nine years and produced stars including Kelly Clarkson, and Taylor Hicks.

re: anon at 7:10 info, I bet Simon Fuller wants to be able to profit from reruns, etc. I hope he does get it and then reruns Adam's season, Adam highlights, Adam's rehearsals, Adam behind-the-scenes clips, Adam-never-seen-before footage, Adam standing around talking to other contestants, Adam getting his make-up done, Adam with the stylists, Adam putting his costumes on, Adam warming up, Adam sitting in a chair thinking, Adam hanging out at the mansion, Adam taking a nap, Adam laughing, other contestants/staff/producers/etc. talking about Adam.....like maybe 20 different "Adam on Idol" shows with all the footage they're bound to have of him!

YESSS!!!!!!

So glad we will be seeing Rickey on Leno. When Adam appears on Leno again (and he will cuz they have a lot of respect for one another) then it will be so cool to see them all together. Hope Jay would let him do a little something with his band and Rickey and the house band.

Love the comments about Adam...but why did Rickey say he was a single mother too?? Did I read that right? Confused!

Anonymous said...

9:57 - you read it wrong, but I did too for a second :), he was speaking as if he were viewers who could relate to crystal - as in, here I am Jane Doe out in television land, and I, Jane Doe, am also a single mother so I am going to vote for Crystal Bowersox. I think that's what Minor meant.

Additionally, absolutely beyond comprehension that Ricky Minor's departure was not mentioned at AI9 finale - beyond comprehension to me.

I just went to the original LA times article (thanks for the link 24/7) and it's a good read!! And I also posted a comment there about how terrible I thought it was that the AI producers didn't ensure that there was enough time left in the AI9 finale broadcast to properly acknowledge Minor's contributions to AI over the years. That was apparently the issue - Minor talks about it in the full article over at LA Times original story - but it is still inexcusable in my book. Anyway, good read just FYI

Awwww that was so nice of him to praise and compliment Adam.

HI ANON7:34...GLAD YOU LEFT OUT ADAM VISITING THE BATHROOM, YOU SURE COVERED EVERYTHING ELSE....I'M IN TOTAL AGREEMENT BRING ON "THE ADAM HOUR" FOR OUR ENTERTAINMENT!

Ricky Minor deserved more that he got from Idol. I loved how he admires Adam because Adam sure admired him. I never noticed Carrie thanking the band but WE all did Adam. He even did it for a "while" after doing One on the Final three of Season 8. Ryan had to call his name more than once. LOL Ricky you are a great person and Idol should have gaven you a send off just like they did Cowell. YOU will be missed!

Anonymous said...

anon at 11:19, yes I was laughing as I wrote that, because Simon Fuller knows he would make a fortune off of a show or DVD of Adam doing anything at all.....they could include clips of him sitting, sleeping, visiting the bathroom, etc. and we would buy it!

:)
