Rolling Stone: SPRING MUSIC PREVIEW 2012: 29 records that will rock you in 2012! ADAM LAMBERT Trespassing:

Available: April/May

Forget second-album jitters: for Lambert, cutting a follow-up was a delight compared to his 2009 debut. "The last one, we were guessing," says the klaxon-voiced, mascara-eyed American Idol runner-up. "There was no time to let it settle and live with the music. It was 'Get it out there before people forget about you.' " For Trespassing, Lambert took his sweet time exploring a fun, hybrid sound of his own: "I'm not borrowing so much from classic rock this time – more from disco, funk, house. Dance-oriented stuff." Producers include Pharrell Williams and Chic's Nile Rodgers, who has called his collaboration with Lambert "one of the most organically perfect jams I've had since Bowie." The album's lyrics celebrate hedonistic abandon but also explore the trials of being an openly gay pop star. "I still feel like I'm not welcome," Lambert says. "Pop music feels like high school. There's the really cool kids, and I'm not one of those!"

I really enjoyed reading this Rolling Stone write-up; very concise, all-meat, no fluff yet impactful; especially the last two sentences about Adam not feeling welcome as one of those high school cool kids. Hardly did he envisage he would be overwhelmingly welcome around the world today. My intuition about Trespassing making it really big this time is very very positive. :)

Well, one must always remember the infamous RS Adam cover!(which was a complete sell out)What is it with Americans and 'high school'?
Peer pressure and ignorance at HS must be hell on earth for so many 'gay' students. Time education was introduced to the HS masses. No one should ever have to endure any kind of prejudice. This isn't the medievel Ages!

They can't ignore Adam any longer....

The world is embracing Adam with dignity and respect!!

USA no more he!he! (For those ignorants).

It's funny how Adam still doesn't feel cool enough for the pop world. IMO he is cooler than anyone!Everyone who meets Adam and works with him has nothing but great things to say about him. Good preview review, hope Adam gets another cover on RS!

I hate thouse God damn music industry suits!!I hate they double standard!!Thouse are the one's that make Adam feel like he doesn't belong to it. Everybody how works with him have nothing but kind words, how mutch talent he has and how great person he is.But the "suits" do not let him "cross the line".BUT he will!!Trespassing is waaaay too good to be ignored!

Love the suits comment. Some of the so called singers of today, really? Sad to think Adam still does not feel fully accepted by the suits. He is the voice of the century.

A little addition to the "suits" thing you guys are talking about - what bothers me too is that it seems that the actual DJ's themselves recognize Adam's immense talent (and I mean really, how can one not after just hearing Adam sing two feet from them, you'd have to have no pulse to not get it/feel it/etc), but they don't seem to have enough influence and/or pull, or whatever, to make change in regard to playlists. I know a little bit about how radio works, and the DJ's don't have the power they once did (and, I'll stay away from political discussions, bet let's just say "suits" means a lot more than a simple money driven BUSINESS-MAN's agenda)and that's too bad for the artists IMHO. But I remain ever optimistic! :). As many say, Adam's talent can not be denied... and resistance is futile :). A measure of one's success comes in many forms!

'Double standards' for sure. They are everywhere in the music industry. But Adam is strong and will prevail because he has the talent and attitude of greatness that will outshines all the rest.
Always heaps of respect for Adam.
He is pure class!

the first radio station in washington dc to play blikm, played it as new music on a regular basis, but then when it failed to chart they stopped....i called the dj and he was really nice and said it was all scientific, that he really liked the song, but it went off regular rotation..........more people should have bought it on itunes

Regarding radio station play, a lot of it has to do with advertising. They actually are in the business of advertising.

Its all smoke and mirrors anyway. Pretty sure talent isn't the everything. If it was a whole lot of artists wouldn't be selling much. That said we cannot dismiss Adam's international appeal. In the long run I am sure that counts for a lot. Also, there is still that Idol stigma thing going on. Its cool to put down singers who can actually carry a tune if they come off a reality show.

All these issues with radio play of a new song...I hope Adam doesn't face it with his next single, whatever it is and the new album. I hear such "garbage" too often on the radio and that's because of the teen audience that dictates in a sense what sells in today's market. Exceptional talent only achieves success once in a while as is the case with Adele. Adam still has to claw his way to the top and endure a prejudice in the music business that should not be there. It seems that whatever Adam has done in the past(AMAs, the gay issue, the GNT and Tommy fiasco, his outspoken and honest opinions about issues) all have hurt him to some degree. Yet other performers with issues of abuse, bad public behavior, drugs, drunk driving, etc. get a slap on the wrist and continue in their careers as if nothing happened. Adam seems to have achieved international success and now it is time for American radio and audiences to wake up and recognize him as the best vocal talent in music today.

I think because Adam is such a talented performer that he will have longevity in the music business and eventually reach the success that has so far eluded him esp. in America. He is embraced internationally without exception, yet here in his own country, he still has to endure all kinds of prejudice in spite of having the best voice in music today. I know it frustrates and aggravates those of us who have been fans since day one of seeing him on AI. I don't even want to think about how Adam feels since it took him almost ten years to get recognized with his appearance on AI giving him the platform for us all to see what a truly gifted artist he is. I will continue to support him in all future endeavors and can't wait to receive my deluxe edition copy of TRESPASSING that I ordered from Barnes and Noble the other day.

Adam will leave American radio in the dust someday.. The industry plays the same songs over and over again. In Adam's case there seems to be just plain bigotry.
The DJs who know Adam think he's amazingly talented, but take their marching orders from the owners of the stations. who take their orders from the advertisers ,who take their orders from well you know where this is heading.

There are so many insightful comments today---Like some of them say--so many people with hit songs are not even really talented--but some how they get backing and are on the radio! I think about singers like George Michael, Ricky Martin, Elton John and the list goes on---that did not "come out" until they were already big stars. And yet, Adam is so open and as we know so talented--doors keep getting shut in his face. I'm sure it must make him sad or angry--because he knows he should bewell known by now and have major hits!!! I don't know what it is going to take ---I pray that the new album will give him the exposure that he needs. He should have gained some new fans also, with all the radio promos. There is just too much prejudice and a lot of jealousy (among his peers); The "suits" do control everything---it is all so sad. We fans, who have embraced Adam and love him and his music, know that he will continue to do his best. I hope that he never feels like giving up--he will attain the status that he deserves!! His management needs to do more to expose him to a broader audience .Opinions are just that--opinions, but I have enjoyed reading all the loving words for Adam. I personally will always be a fan of his!

There are so many insightful comments about Adam Lambert and the reasons he has not reached superstardom in the music business. Hopefully with the release of TRESPASSING, those fence sitters and naysayers will finally understand what we as his devoted fans have known all along. Adam is the best vocal talent in music today and puts most of those other performers to shame with his confidence, charm, intelligence, and personal style. He has the "IT" factor and all of the international fans embrace him without question. Let's hope that with TRESPASSING, the rest of the world esp. America gets on the bandwagon to give Adam the accolades and success he so rightfully deserves.

I guess we will be "trespassing" into Adam's life with this new album and find out what he's been thinking and experiencing in the last several years since AI and the GNT. He has already told us so much about himself, more than we should be entitled to know. He certainly is an individual who marches to the beat of his own drum and will continue to do so even amidst criticism and prejudice. It takes a strong, self-confident person to be able to endure all that. Kudos to you Adam for being your own person and giving us music with a voice that outshines and outperforms all the others. Can't wait for this new album because I know it will be an overwhelming success.

Rolling Stone seems to finally view Adam giving him credibility as a solid artist. Asam having the respect of established musicians like Nile Rogers,Pharrell, Queen, etc doesn't hurt either. Adam has been diligently networking, building a solid foundation promoting his music and more mainstream identity. He's a solid, creative talent that in reality has paid his dues. He's much more than glitter and glam and it's becoming evident.

I started watching VH1 and other music video stations to see Adam and BTIKM. Now I never see his video. Instead, every new nothing nobody is being shown on TV. Some are so crappy they are totally laughable. That's one reason I was so happy with Kelly Osbourne's total support of Adam. I think that will carry some weight with the people (I hate to say this) who count in the music industry. But most of all, she seems to be a true fan and a friend. Why are so many people afraid to align themselves with Adam. I know everyone loves him but are they afraid to take a stand against the popular kids. I think Adam is right. It's still like high school. We just have to believe!

Just read that NCOE will be Adam's next single. Not sure how I feel about that one. I thought he would have selected something a bit more energetic and upbeat, but maybe NCOE will be more radio friendly. I've only just heard the acoustic version, so the final studio one will be a bit more appealing. I just hope that this next single does it for Adam or this will be another song that goes nowhere in the scope of what is being heard on the radio today. His current fans(mostly women of a certain age) will undoubtedly love it, but trying to bring in new, younger ones with NCOE could be a problem. Only time will tell. I also wonder what the concept for the video will be which seems so important in selling a song.

I think he dwells on the gay issue, too much, just use your beatiful voice for happiness not gay, your personal life is your own, not the worlds.

Anonymous said...

Adam get rid of Tommy Joe and you will be a cool kid, I promise. :)

Anonymous said...

Adam is not going to get rid of Tommy as part of his band. His success will depend on the songs he puts out and whether or not they will get radio play. Listening to the music has nothing to do with TJR and should not be an issue. Adam is different now in his approach to the music, his overall look and his stage presence. The glitter and glam is gone along with some of those outrageous moves on stage during the GNT. That was then; this is now with a more mature, stylish, self confident Adam and a new album. I wish him success with this sophomore album and happiness in his personal life.

Anonymous said...

9:14, how do you know Adam wants to keep Tommy forever? His fans are a nuisance. Tommy should at least tweet his fans that they should buy Adam's singles, because they likely fail to do so. They say they only like the acoustic NCOE and BTIKM with Tommy. So selfish.

it is sad but rap is in now I wish Adam would have collaberated with at least one rapper I think that would have help him sell I have three grand children sad to say but mostly listen to rap it won't last as long as rock or pop but now it is really big.

Anonymous said...

Adam has never like rap music, so doubt he'll ever rap tunes for an album.
The music video for NCOE, hopefully will be another Details for us gals! Please Adam, your vocals will rock our worlds seeing you in a love scene with a Woman.

A sweet, sad comment but truth in his words. He does not tell us of the doors that are slammed in his face, the coldness of being ignored and the phone calls not returned to his promoters. This is one of the few times in which he has let us in on the struggle he experiences. His brave face is always so beautiful and strong. When he achieves the level of acceptance and respect we all wish for him, no one will ever have had a more courageous journey.
