The words still carry a segregation feeling in the South were I grew up.

I've heard the word used as a way of saying white privelege. I'd rather not use and not offend someone. Not worth it.

It certainly sounds like 7:17 pm didn't mean to imply any racist connotations, but rather was defending Adam's paleness after a few of the comments above it. Kind of like "he is what he is".

If some people prefer the pale look, they have a right to feel that way. And others have a right to prefer a darker look. (I'm talking about attraction to people in general, not talking about Adam specifically.)

That said, it's interesting to note the other meaning of the phrase "lily white" to some of the others, based on where they live. I live in Wisconsin, and don't recall hearing it used like that by others, but I have actually used it myself when defending racist attacks by someone against another group when "they're not exactly lily white themselves". How about "fish-belly white" instead? Gives it a totally different connotation! Lol

I'm of German/Irish descent, and while I have brown hair & eyes and am not a ginger, my husband has complained about my paleness and lack of a tan before, so I get mine out of a bottle. ;)

There's plenty of discrimination in this country of all kinds but do we need to cling to and cite 19th and 20th century political movements, we have enough trouble with current wacky ideas (voter suppression). We have an alarming discrimination right now against poor people in this country. Poor of all colors. And I don't mean just the non working poor, some have 2 and 3 jobs and still can't survive without help. My church feeds breakfast to many who are on their way to a 12-14 hr. work day.

Tell the CEO's in this country to produce their products here in the USA, they will make a little less profit but we will have a middle class again!
