From Forbes.com
"Should We Evaluate Queen + Adam Lambert The Same Way We Evaluate Iggy Azaelia?"
EXCERPTS:
"The band Queen was founded forty-four years ago. It took a few years—and albums—for it to become one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. By the mid-1980s, Queen was breaking concert attendance and sales records."
"Last week, two original members of Queen—Brian May and Roger Taylor—launched a tour with Adam Lambert filling in for the late Freddie Mercury. Queen joined the likes of the Rolling Stones and ZZ Top in keeping their brand alive on the stage well into their fifth and sixth decades."
"Reviews of the performance were mostly ecstatic, but some critics have called for the band to create some new Queen music together, rather than reverting to releasing more albums fronted by Freddie Mercury. Does the reconfigured Queen need to make new music to be considered effective? At the heart of this issue is a question that matters not just for bands, but for any organization: Should we evaluate the effectiveness of a mature organization using the same criteria we use for upstarts? Do we judge Queen with Adam Lambert using the same metric with which we assess newcomers, like Iggy Azaelia or Imagine Dragons?"
"According to a classic study by management professors Robert E. Quinn and Kim Cameron, “Organizational Life Cycles and Shifting Criteria of Effectiveness: Some Preliminary Evidence,” the answer is no. The way we should define and evaluate the effectiveness of an organization depends on what stage of the organizational life cycle it is in."...............................
..............."In this mature phase of Queen, we should not evaluate them as we did when they were in their entrepreneurial phase. We leave discussions of innovativeness, creativity, and freshness of voice to artists who are just starting out. Instead, we evaluate Queen on their ability to adapt to the contemporary musical landscape and provide an experience that their audience values. And on that front, Queen + Adam Lambert have delivered."

this is a fascinating article. Thanks
A very informative article and I love the last sentence! A seal of approval for Queen and Adam from Forbes Magazine!!!

This is a great article. Adam should take notes to use this business model for his own name brand.
loved-the-article.
New on the roads blog says Adam Brian and Roger fly everywhere. 44 roadies on the buses.
I have seen Brian perform with the hip hop musicians and he adds a dimension that "kicks them up to another level" and he does it within THEIR genre. In Adam, the band has selected an innovator of sound -- not a imitator. They won't keep him if they don't create new sounds with him because Adam loves to break barriers. If Queen wanted just to present their catalog and the sounds of the past, they would have selected Marc and the imitator band. But they have chosen a young, energetic innovator who doesn't like doing the same things over and over and who does not "live in the past." So, IMO, sustaining QUEEN + Adam Lambert calls for creating new innovative music and being judged by new standards. I think Adam wants to make his own mark on music -- not simply to stand in Freddie Mercury's shoes. I don't know what QUEEN wants but they are certainly capable of creating an additional (more culturally current) catalog if they that's how they want to use their energy and experience.

This tour is something not to miss for Adam, but when its over, it should be over.
Once Adam's career as a solo artist is on track again and going well, an occasional date with Queen would be a special treat.
As much as I love them both separately and together, we don't want Adam to be known as "the guy who sings with Queen". That's not his ultimate destiny.
I thought Iggy Azaelia was a soccer player!
Thanks for the link to this very interesting article. I read the comments - all positive except for one guy who admits he's never heard or seen Adam perform. Yet he felt informed enuf to comment? Dont understand that reasoning. Good informative article. . . . Adamluv
Adam and Queen should never make an album together, I don't think it would work at all. Ten audience are fans of Queen and this whole tour is a very nostalgic feeling. They have accepted Adam as a great front man for Queen, but that all he is for this tour. Queen fans have said he is a great singer, in fact one of the best But I don't think there would be sell out crowds at large venues for Queen and Adam with a brand new album, that they have written. There would always be glamberts, and some Queen fans, but not the huge crowds, if it was not a Freddie tribute. Adam has to draw his own audience solo, with his own band, he will do well, but I doubt he will fill huge venues like Queen.
He is and always will be a great showman, but he has to build his own empire like Queen did, and many other older bands. This has been a wonderful experience, for him, and his name is getting out there and respected by thousands of people who had never heard of him before. That will be the greatest blessing he will get from this tour. When his 3rd album is released, I hope enough people will be curious enough to buy it , now that they know who he is, and will want him to tour.
I am also curious if this tour and the songs, might change some of the ones he is writing, to become more rock, than pop.

correction on first line, not ten, but the. I should have proof read it.
I feel strongly that Adam should focus on his career as a solo artist once this gig is over. Queenbert is a tremendous opportunity for visibility, experience, and plain fun, but Adam needs to keep establishing his own musical identity past that, and I have a feeling that Adam is pretty aware of it.
When he goes on tour with his own album again, I am sure, the style of travelling he has been able to do on this tour has utterly spoiled him. He will be going back to the bus, with his band. No more flying from venue to venue. Hopefully with a hotel room when possible between venues.
I know when my hubby and I went from tent camping, to trailer camping, there was no going back to tents. Then we had time shares, and that was the best, although we still used our 5th wheel in between. You can get spoiled very quickly.
