"NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Troy Ritchie, Taylor John Williams prove to be clash of the titans"

Excerpt mentioning Adam Lambert:

"This is not to be a slam on Taylor at all, since his rendition of “Mad World” is very good. The problem this song runs into is that Adam Lambert did such an iconic version of it on “American Idol” so many years ago, and that to many will remain the seminal cover of the song. That probably will remain our favorite forever, but in separating that from what Taylor did, he carried the emotion well. He had a song that is more suited for hitting big notes, and if that is what Gwen is really looking for here, he will win."

This is the Mad World performance being discussed..(starts at about 2:15 in)

Now, on to Adam Lambert's Season 8 (2009), Top 8 Performance of Mad World, with Adam's intro and Simon Cowell's Standing Ovation for Adam's performance afterward..

And Adam's Season 8 Final Competition/Performance Night "Mad World"version...

Adam was killing it then and still is. I love to watch Season 8 just to see Adam.

I find it so interesting that someone like Pharell, who has worked with Adam, can say he's never heard a rendition of that song like that. All the coaches were so blown away by it. Is it just that they actually never saw Adam's performance, or is their memories that short?

I will always remember and love Adam's rendition of Mad World.
I know why he didn't win, we all know why he didn't win, but I think it actually didn't matter in the end, as Adam himself has said many tines. He got what he wanted, which was a platform, which has turned out to be a chance to be seen by Queen, who has given him a huge platform, so he really won after all, with bells on.

Pharrell didn't say he has never heard Adam sing that song.He said he has never heard a rendition like what he heard tonight of that song actually the beginning was a lot a like but the middle and end very different than the way Adam sang it Adam hit a lot of high notes. When I very first heard it tonight I was at work came from my desk thinking maybe Adam was on tv but NO the man that sang it on the voice did a good job but we all know Adam is a power house.

Wasn't Simon's standing ovation for Mad World his ONE and ONLY standing ovation on AI? I think so. I don't think Simon stood for any other contestant, before or after Adam. Adam LIVED that song. Simon knew it. Adam felt that song so personally. Simon completely got it.

The young man did an adquate job.
I am sorry, but no one in the universe can sing that song like Adam Mitchell Lambert; that is just a fact. Adam just blows the mind with his vocals. He just owns that song!
