I'm just gonna state the obvious- the recent rise in US Police Brutality and lack of judgement is disgusting. C'mon guys. WTF?

I know there are a lot of good cops out there but the system's fucked. Justice has been warped. What do we do to fix it?

By talking about it like you are, Adam.
We don't know who to trust these days Adam!!:) Right now, I'm just hoping that people be responsible for their actions!!:)

Maybe the world needs to have everyone watching everything going on all the time. I think it's kind of sad but this is the world we live in today.
Shut up Adam. Go back to singing. No one needs to hear your political rants.
law enforcement needs our respect. they put their lives on the line everyday. I think it is just attitude that is causing all the confusion in the world. Everyone is having a sense of lawlessness and don't want no one telling them what to do. It is very sad for the ones who don't break the laws and are punished for the ones who do. Justice is warped. Without the law, we are pretty much gonna be defending ourselves. I guess gun permits will become the norm.
I just wish that all those people bashing law inforcement could spend one night in the shoes of the brave men and women trying to do there jobs in very difficult situations. Unless you have walked in their shoes you have no right to talk. This is coming from a mother and mother in law of two very brave men in law inforcement. You would not believe what they see in these crime infested neighborhoods. Unfortunately the media never talks about the good work they do.
It makes me so angry seeing people trying to defend cops and law enforcement I mean yes sure, not all of them are bad. No one is saying that they all are. What people are saying is that is outrageous and terrible that black people, especially black childrens, are getting killed without any real reason (There are probably a lot of other examples but I guess this is still what most people are angry about)
Just a few of my thoughts on Adam's words, and the bigger subject.... For what it's worth.....
I come from a long term law enforcement family.. Grandfather, father, and my husband, while not an officer himself, works closely with law enforcement as part of his profession.. The vast majority are good, honest people, working to make this country a safe place.. Unfortunately, there are those who go over the line, for whatever reason..Whether it be from personal action, or implicit permission from higher up....
Adam was obviously speaking about the BIGGER issues & problems & concerns: places and situations like Ferguson, the unequal treatment of certain people.. Prejudice, discrimination, preconceived notions....fear, guns, violence... unequal treatment...
It's out there, and Adam's question of "What do we do to fix it?" is certainly the part that we need to focus on. I think we all have the same concerns to one degree or another, but speaking primarily for myself here..
Adam's dad Eber and his brother Neil were in a rather heated discussion between the two of them yesterday on Twitter about this subject, so I would rather guess this is at least one of the reasons why Adam may have jumped into the fray, so to speak..
And Adam being in Europe for the time being, where (we) Americans are looked at in puzzlement sometimes, about the things that happen here, perhaps spurred him on as well. Looking from the outside in, so to speak...
Sadly, no simple solutions..
But we can certainly join the conversation about what needs to change in order to make this a better and safer and more equal place for ALL of our citizens...
Adam is never afraid to speak up about issues outside of his music bubble. I adore him for that, and most of the time I don't disagree.
Jackie43, I also have multiple family members who are cops and I'm sure you have heard the same types of stories I have. You must know that not all cops are good and there are issues with racism and abuse of power. I must disagree with the part about the media never recognizing the good work they do. Positive stories happen all the time. But we also want real journalists to look for the truth in events even if cops are involved.
Because of the great risk and great power that comes with being a cop they must be held to a high standard for their safety and ours.
I also think it is time for the Justice Department to get involved in this issue.
Ron Singleton and the NYPD is more of a concern to me than Ferguson.
I knew someone would say just shut up and sing to Adam and we know just what kind if people they are.
Adam asking a very intelligent question about a sentence worth is far from a rant and you know that!
Adam like the rest of us has the right to ask opinions and question the injustices happening right now.
I will let GL and others who know more about these things discuss it they do a way better job than I do.

I think if a criminal uses force on a police officer, he has the right to shoot back. I hear that law enforcement will be wearing body cameras as evidence for the growing attacks on them. I also believe that a person working behind the counter of a conveinent store has the right to shoot a gun if attacked. It is going to get ugly, before the pretty. I just picture a scene from the Wild Wild West.
First of all, Adam has every right to express his opinion. I agree that Eber and Neil's conversation probably prompted him to send out that tweet. It's ok with me.
Police officers face situations each day that rely on judgment calls. Yes, some of them cross over the line into regrettable behavior. They often face people who will not show them any respect or follow any directions. It's not always easy to know what to do. Racism is still alive and well in the U.S., although we've come a long way. As someone who lives only a few miles from Chicago, I hear and see the frustration, grief and hopelessness that many people feel. It's been centuries in the making. It's not easy to change attitudes.
DRG, you are seeing it in action. I think a lot of us live in areas where the issues aren't as pronounced. Hoping we can all work towards a better society.
12:39 pm, the body cameras have been showing up usually after the police are involved in a brutality or unarmed shooting incident, not due to the cops being attacked.
Neil tweeted about a shocking abuse of power in Florida:

The story is from 2011:
17 Justice Dept. Investigations Into Police Departments Nationwide

Resisting arrest for a crime you have committed is never a good idea. It is tragic when a death occurs and the circumstances should be investigated. The outcome does not always seem fair, or be fair, but it is not an excuse for burning and looting. What good does that accomplish?
Only harm to the community.
What good does it do to keep choking a man when he is saying he can't breathe and then becomes unconscious. Officers are trained to use the least lethal method. Where was the stun gun or pepper spray?
It's not good when outside people come into a community and take advantage of protests to start looting.
I love when AL opens up a topic for discussion. It is great when people can be civil and discuss issues that are so important in our society. I am glad he recognized this and mentioned it. I think of Jessica Chambers and the torture she was put through for what reason? a selfish reason?? The person who did it shouldn't see the light of day. What will be the police role in all of it??? I think her father was a police. This girl died at the hands of a monster/monsters. If justice isn't done, it will be on the back of the law enforcement.
I include in my prayers all whose jobs is in serving and protecting the public such as the police, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses etc, etc.
It's a great vocation to serve others. But there's always a snake in every forest.
If only people give respect to authorities who are doing their jobs.
I wonder why other minorities are not in this situation as the blacks? If they are, I do not hear them complaining. Why???
