QUOTES (below) from the MUCH longer blog post explaining why this Adam Lambert performance is THE "best of the best" top American Idol performances of all time, in this man's opinion... Please go to the link above (and below so you don't miss it!!) and read the entire article. AND then watch the video below of "Tracks Of My Tears" from American Idol, Motown Week. Adam is brilliant and in my opinion, so is this blogger!!!

INTRO: Any greatest American Idol performance list that doesn’t have an Adam Lambert song ranked No. 1 is wrong. That’s really it. With plenty of ranked lists and clickbait slideshows coming for the final season – shhhhhh – if anyone puts out a “best ever” list that doesn’t have a Lambert performance ranked first they’re trolling for clicks and care more about their own reputation than doing credible work. There’s so much more than singing in a great Idol performance and this Top 30 list – which should have been done long ago but whoops, I’m lazy. Still got 30K-plus words on Idol. Anyone else with that on their resume? – wanted to take everything the show stands for into account. The best American Idol performance of all time has to be one that is a vocal masterpiece, came under pressure, provided a competitive edge and transformed how the show is watched. Lord Lambert’s “Tracks of My Tears?” Yes, yes, yes and yes. It’s the easy No. 1 choice.

But if you want proof of what makes this performance so great it’s the faux-Lambert moment. When he hits the “my smile is my makeup/I wear since my breakup/with you,” holds the note, then transitions into the chorus it was proof positive that no one, and I mean no one was going to outsing Adam Lambert. Lesser talents would have gotten a little too loud at that portion, maybe a little pitchy as they got to the higher octave. Not Lambert. He just nailed the perfect note. NBD.

Plenty of artists changed how Idol songs were performed. No one did it as subtly as Adam Lambert did in this 118 seconds of brilliance. It is, and will forever be, the best damn performance American Idol has ever had.

Oh, this is good -- "Tracks Of My Tears" was actually indeed my favorite performance of Adam's entire Idol journey. So happy to see this! Thanks for posting this lovely piece, glitzy! <3

I think that was his best performance as well, better than Mad World.

The truth is....EACH song of Adam's was a GEM of immaculate vocals and creative interpretation!

For me this one ranks at least as highly as Mad World. Actually I like it even more. I remember that it almost put me in a state of shock after Ring of Fire the previous week. I was ready to go to heaven after lol. Genius moment really. His tender vocals and the emotional connection... killer! It still slays majorly.

Right you are. Does anyone remember the marching band? I loved that.

It's funny because neither Mad World nor Tracks of My Tears would be my choice for favorite Idol performance by Adam. I'd pick A Change Is Gonna Come or Feelin' Good. Both showcased his vocal abilities and his style. As for duets on Idol, I don't think you can beat Adam and Allison's Foghat song Slow Ride.

I'm with you on "Feelin' Good", Artemis. My son made me a cd with many of Adam's Idol studio versions and I play "Feelin' Good" over and over while driving. I treasure that cd just as much as Adam's own albums.

They are all so amazing

I just cry like a baby when I heard his ballads

I think A Change Is Going To Come is also up there on my list. It was fantastic. That song alone should have made it a no contest item as to who should have one.

I wasn't an AI person, but happened to be at my daughter's house and they were watching AI when he sang 'Mad World'. I was hooked. Played it over and over again the next day and have since attended as many of his live performances that I could (afford). His performance of 'Tracks of My Tears' just confirmed my adoration of him, along with 'A Change is Gonna Come'. Yes, he ruined AI and I have never watched them since his amazing season. I tell everyone who questions my obsession with him that his voice 'touches my soul' and that says it all. I've never (and I'm not a young chick) been obsessed with a singer as I am with Adam and his amazing voice. Love him forever!

I agree with all the choices here but I have to add one more ... If I Can't Have You ... I can still picture ADAM standing there in that misty spotlight wearing that Fabulous Classy suit singing his heart out ... I believe Ryan said he was melting Paula into a pool of Abdul or something like that. That performance sent chills down my spine ... so GORGEOUS!! That was my one & only season that I never missed a show & I voted my fingers off .... ADAM is a Master Class Super Star!! Thank you American Idol for introducing me to this out-of-this-world Talented Mega Star!!
