Actually, last evening was my first time watching AI right until Adam and Laleh performed WTTS, above-the-cut from the other singers.
Dalton's first song was a little off-key, to me. But his second song The Sounds of Silence took the stage by storm; very meaningful in relation to his intense background/feelings which he related of himself; with strong rounded vocals. He might have given Adam a run for his money with this emotion-packed rendition of The Sounds of Silence on the show.

This was my first AI show this season too. I wasn't particularly impressed with the performances of the contestants and then I was looking down at my iPad when I heard this gorgeous voice and said wow, this guy's voice is great!! I looked up to see it was Adam! :) Overall I wasn't too impressed with these contestants other than Trent and the woman with the HUGE hair although I did find her hair very distracting. ;)

I agree. IMO the best contestants are Trent(who is country singer from what I hear) and La'Portia (sp) who has a fantastic voice. The others are simply not special in any way. Dalton is cute but his voice is not rich in tone or even in tune a lot of the time. I say this as someone who watched them all sing on Thursday for the first time, so my opinion is based on voice alone, not on other factors. It would be nice for girl to win, I guess.

Love Dalton! But Dalton's voice takes a bit of getting used to, IMO. I think I've figured it out... he uses almost no vibrato when he sings, which makes him sometimes seem almost slightly off-key. But after listening carefully, I realize he's actually dead-on key, but he finishes it off with little or no vibrato, so the note doesn't "open up" the way we're used to hearing.

Interesting -- I hope a trained singer/musician will comment on this for me... for all I know, I'm full of baloney! That's just how it seems to me.

I think Dalton is really terrific -- certainly makes you "feel" a song when he sings it.

BTW -- I think that "hands down" LaPorsha (sp?) has the superior voice ... very likely iconic... if her career is handled right...and she is dedicated. She sings so easily! Her "runs" are so natural and silky-smooth. How lucky for her to make it to the last
American Idol!
