Digital Spy got an exclusive interview with Adam Lambert this week and managed to get a scoop:  Adam would like to be in the new Queen biopic although not as Freddie, but as one of his lovers.
"I'd want to be in bed with Freddie ... I think that would be appropriate at this point!"
(Updated:) The Freddie role is in the process of being cast the lead contender, as least from Brian May's point of view, being British actor Ben Whishaw:

This is probably the most open subject that Adam has approached. For the record I believe he's right, it's time this subject was front and center in a big movie. He's perfect for the part.

I think this role would be great for Adam. He has such a personal connection with Freddie, not to mention the professional one. They are soul-mates somehow. Brian and Roger have said that Freddie would have really liked and respected Adam. If this film ever DOES get made, I hope this chance happens for Adam. This will be a high-profile film when it does finally come out. Sure to get lots of press world-wide. Hope it happens for Adam. But I think it's gonna take a while. This film is having a rocky start.

BTW, the thought of Adam in a love/sex scene in a movie is a real brain and body-tingle. He is so sensual and sexy. Seeing him do a steamy scene is FINE with me! And that guy who will likely play Freddie is very cute. Guess he'll have to wear false teeth.

I was very surprised when quite some time ago I read Ben Wishaw was the actor considered for the role of Freddie. He seems rather slight and frail to play the very physical Freddie. However, he is a favorite of mine.......I have a penchant for English actors. <3

I would like to see Adam in the movie, it just seems to fit that he would be included. He wouldn't necessarily have to have a sexy bedroom scene, there are many ways of being a lover, without being sexually explicit. Probably some kissing, hand holding, and even just talking. Being a lover isn't all in bed, they really do lead a normal life too. It doesn't need to be a porn movie or xxx.

I am having mixed reactions to this. Yes, I think Adam would be a fine actor in the right role. But would this forever bind him to Queen when people think of Adam Lambert instead of his own single career which he is working so hard to build. Just a thought.

I personally feel this would be an incredible opportunity for Adam, to flex his acting skills..

Fingers crossed!!!

Kath, I respect your opinion, but performers have to take big opportunities when they present themselves. And this is a BIG one (if it does come true). I don't think this role would box Adam into anything. It just might show the world that he can be a decent actor, and maybe he would be offered other roles. If he can get this role, I say TAKE IT. Risk-taking can result in a big payoff. And this would generate a lot of media attention for him.

And just to add, lots of singers have gone into acting and done both quite nicely. There's room for it all.

Mixed feelings about this. I think Adam is feeling confident having just finished his scenes for RHPS. Maybe because Adam has been singing in Freddie's place, it's almost like he is too personally involved with the band, just seems IDK, strange???? It is a great chance for Adam to expand his acting skills, and I will definitely see the movie no matter what.

Not every film is a great opportunity, and a biopic of Freddie Mercury is not automatically a perfect fit for Adam. So much depends on the script, the director, the perspective. and whether the portrayal will center on Freddie the person or sensationalize "sex, drugs, and rock&roll" to increase viewership. Unfortunately most films about rock stars serve to titillate, not shed light.

Hopefully Adam's remark was more of a casual nature than serious, as he himself battles for focus to be on his music and not his private life/sexual orientation. His respect for Freddie would seem to preclude a portrayal as one of Freddie's lovers - which should be a minor focus in any legitimate film. So I agree with others - honor his legacy with his songs, not his love life.

Sasha Baron Cohen wanted to portray Freddie inn more if his sexual.life. Brian and Roger didn't like that
I don't think Brian and Roger will allow a film that focuses nainly on that.

The part Adam wants to play would be another miner part. This film is about Freddie's younger years in the music world, How he started probably before the group was called Queen. I doubt it will be centered on his private life very much. It might show his music writings, and going to parties, which might include a boyfriend, he also had a lady friend who lived with him for years. The drugs will probably show up too. I wonder if Freddie would even like this movie all about him.

Yes, this Freddie Mercury Biopic film concept has been on the table for quite some time. It was proposed by Dr. Brian May & Roger Taylor, who dearly loved and respected Freddie and wish to present his story realistically but also as something that would be a part of Freddie's legacy as a musician and as a friend and colleague, telling his story in a respectful and loving way .. After being in talks with him, they subsequently dismissed Sasha Baron Cohen as Freddie because his idea of portraying Freddie was too graphic, too down and dirty, etc.., focusing on the sex, drugs, etc., and not in keeping with their original concept. SBC did not endear himself to the men of Queen, as was voiced by Dr. May in a recent article.. All of this has been addressed and documented in the past couple of years..

Dr. May & Roger have stated they would like to produce a biopic of Freddie's story that is realistic and at the same time, respectful of the man he was, the musician, the good man, their friend, to celebrate his life.. I have faith that if and when this film is produced, it will be worthwhile and worthy of Freddie and his contributions to the music of the many years he was alive. And it could certainly be something that Adam would be proud to be a part of.. I also suspect that he knows much more than we do about the concepts put forth by Dr. May & Roger, and quite honestly I don't believe he would have even mentioned it if there was not a possibility of him being in the film in some capacity..

One more thought: for those worried that this will somehow pigeon hole or restrict or disrupt or sidetrack Adam in his pursuit of a solo career: Adam is and always will be a part of the legendary band that it Queen. What an incredible opportunity and honor for him to be in this position, now and in the future.. He can still have a solo career, something that he already has..and obviously loves. And we his fans, enjoy! And as @Dee R Gee said above, musicians, actors, etc., can have multi-faceted sides to their careers as a whole.. One person who comes to mind is Jared Leto.. He fronts the well known band "Thirty Seconds To Mars", and is an Academy Award winning actor.. It doesn't seem to slow him down in either area, acting or fronting TSTM.

I have every hope that Adam will have MANY opportunities along the way in his life, and this could be but one of them.. It may or may not happen, but if it's the right part for him, if it's offered, more power to him.

Excited by the possibilities for this lovely, talented man!!!!

While Sasha Baron Cohen may have suited the flamboyancy and physical looks of Freddie, he also represents a branding which does not include good acting skills or an impressive resume. He was an actor at odds with Brian and Roger, so it is a good thing that he has now declined the part. While this project still seems to lack an approved script, a notable director, a strong cast with good credentials, and has been bouncing around for years - Adam - stay away, not a good career move!

I recently saw Ben Whishaw in the movie "The Danish Girl". He didn't have a major role but he was OK. Whilst he has dark hair, he's not the physical Freddie type.

Actually quite surprising that Adam mentioned that he would like to be in the movie, and has had conversations about it with Brian May. These things are usually kept tightly under wraps, until all the papers are signed. There must be a strong possibility that Adam will be part of it, if they can come to terms about the part. I cannot see this as anything but an asset to Adam's career. Looks like Adam will have time if they get this off the ground. By September, as far as I know he has no commitments. He has talked about possibly working on another album, but has been hazy about it. Well here we go again, having to use our patience again, waiting to hear if it will happen.
