1. Kris tops Adam (season 8)
We're still trying to process this one, seven years later. Adam Lambert is one of the show's signature stars and still lands singles on the charts (as with last year's "Ghost Town"). But somehow, he was unable to top Kris Allen, one of the many beneficiaries over the years of fans' predilection for Cute Guy With Guitar (see also: Cook, Phillip Phillips, Lee DeWyze).

How did Adam manage to look so happy after a gigantic loss like that...I thought he was just trying to cover his disappointment but he actually felt okay for Kris to win. On hindsight, I think he loved Kris who himself was shocked and stammered: 'But Adam...' Adam had never said anything negative about the whole saga. It was the people who were hopping mad. I think he loved Kris as a dear friend and did not want to augment the shock/disappointment of his fans and Kris.
Well the US magazine got it damned right...the most shocking AI moment. I was really fed-up and seized watching AI since S8; only when Adam was invited back...like the Adam/Laleh Welcome To The Show performance, probably one of the best on Idol; I think Laleh made a stupendous debut, she looked so beautiful and pure in that princess gown.
Sometimes I feel Adam might not have given that terrific sexual performance of FYE if he had won AI; because as newly-crowned American Idol, he might just have thought twice about it. He did say it was done on the spur of the moment. Perhaps, psychologically he needed to vent out. But life has strange ways of paying back people their due. Finally, nothing against Kris Allen, a very fine soul, a talented artist.
