I've not commented on the leaked demo version of The Original High but the given background music made me look it up and directly compare it with the released album version.
Well, no comparison; anyone can sing the demo version but not the actual album version in which his high alto is very beautiful and the power in the 'high' note gives energy to 'high' with connotation to drug...though the original lyric...'As if the drug stopped working...' has been removed. I like this part...'Oh, I'm going to get there tonight...' perhaps that could have been incorporated into the album version.
Final analysis, The Original High album version is a highly plausible hit because of the variations and Adam's beautiful singing; also the accompanying score is so much more professional as opposed to the monotony in the demo. Whoever edited/polished it up knows what he is doing; did a mighty fine job. Release the album version as a single.
After listening to the demo several times......I find I prefer it. The tired, whispery, gravelly voice seems to suit the lyrics.
The demo is more 'personal'......the bare bones catch you.
I can see why, when Adam presented it, the producers said "yes, we can do something with this."
And they did, the finished product is smooth and theatrical....it's great and Adam's voice gets to shine.
But, I find I prefer those gravelly bare bones.
I guess I look at it this way. The album version is the one I'd maybe more likely play in my car and sing along, esp. with those gorgeous glory notes. It's slicker, more polished. The demo version is the one I'd more likely hear in a club while having drinks, maybe doing some "romantic" dancing. It's definitely grittier, sexier. I love both versions, but each one is for a little different mood.
I'm with Lam-My re her comments about "The Original High".
Both versions of this song are great. The demo version is sweet & dreamy but I prefer the album version - I fell in love with it immediately I heard it. Max Martin & Shellback produced a fantastic song. :-)
Fluttsp... Adam's singing is beautiful in the demo version, the tone, ease, vibrato; the constant, same accompaniment score wasn't so appealing. The song is about drugs, the lyric...'As if the drug stopped working...' has been removed. So my question now s why sing about drugs or withdrawal; isn't the real situation bad enough? So not sure it if is such a good idea to release it as a single, though I recommended it in my above comment.
