I suppose Adam is reaching out to LGBT people / gay men to be more forward thinking and be themselves using Freddie as example. In the 70's it was more covert, perhaps allowed for more leeway to be less retrograde as there was less open criticism/shaming but still spurned.
But it's less frowned upon now with people like Adam and others making their presence felt, putting their foot down and expressing themselves openly and freely; still uphill though.
