So as Idol prepares to embark on Act II (for better or worse), let's celebrate some of the best cover songs this ratings juggernaut of old has bestowed upon us. Here are the greatest performances from all 15 American Idol years, beginning with the most recent season.
Season 8 Adam Lambert singing “Mad World” by Tears For Fears How did Adam Lambert lose American Idol? Put little clap emojis between all those words because the fact that Lambert — a total ringer and maybe the strongest male vocalist Idol ever saw — lost to good-but-not-great Kris Allen still keeps me up at night. Anyway, his most memorable showstopper was his insanely good and nuanced take on “Mad World.”

Whew! Been gone for about 48 hrs. and tried to keep up on my phone, but glad to be back home! LOVE Adam's Mad World so much! It begins with such quiet power and then just explodes with that breakout moment when he stands up and lets it all loose. It sure as hell got Simon's attention. Simon gave his first ever standing O that night. Never get tired of seeing it!
I confess I watched most of Am Idol tonight. It was fun.
So did I ...but watched all. And enjoyed it. Hope they have some good contestants this year. Hope Adam will be on as guest performer...soon and often!
The more successful Idol is, the more we may see of Adam on it....fingers crossed.
I watched Idol tonight also. We were pleasantly surprised to be honest. The judges were actually good and a few contestants that were not bad at all. I particularly liked about 4 of them tonight... Will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Definitely hoping for Adam to be on there to perform.. and fingers crossed, with a new single.

Hooray for the Idol reboot, I too watched, the whole 2 hours and Iliked it! It's on tonight again and I will watch again, oh heck I'm going to watch the whole season! You know Glamily I heard it had 10 million viewers and was the TOP WATCHED PROGRAM last night!!! God luck American Idol for a successful comeback!!!
Ugh I meant Good Luck not God, but God luck would be great too. Lol
