Adam Lambert loses out to Lady Gaga for GLAAD Award

Adam Lambert is quickly working his way up to global superstardom, but sometimes, he just ends up facing some worthy competition. Over the weekend at the GLAAD Media Awards, the "American Idol" singer ultimately ended up losing out to Lady Gaga (who he worked with previously on "Fever") in winning Outstanding Music Artist. Other people nominated included Brandi Carlile and The Gossip.

Both Adam and Gaga have been major supporters of the gay community over the course of the past few years, with both of them doing their parent to give back. Adam did famously have a run-in with Out Magazine at one point, but that was largely due to the politics of representation.

Of course, Adam was not in attendance for the broadcast, as he is currently taking part in the Glam Nation Tour. The singer has the day off Monday, but on Tuesday he will be performing in Crystal Bowersox's hometown of Toledo, Ohio.

Are you hoping that Adam will pick up this sort of honor by GLAAD in the future?

I posted the following comments on the Examiner's page:

I am actually glad (no pun intended) that the 'gay' torch was passed to Lady Gaga this year. Radios won't have any more excuses for not playing Adam Lambert's music on the airwaves. Adam Lambert has a strong and DIVERSE following (same as Gaga). Both are incredible artists. Adam will also have more time to spend on musical matters instead of always being asked about the gay issues. Cannot wait for the recording industry's recognition of this unique talent. Just a matter of time!

No big deal here too. Gaga deserved the award because she's been so active in promoting gay rights. I saw a video of her in Washington early this year and she yelled at Obama and told him to move faster. It made me like her because she's risking so much for gay people. No wonder she has a huge gay fanbase.

So happy for Gaga!!!

I'm sure Adam will win a similar award in the coming years.

Just wondering, has Adam performed at any gay clubs yet?? I'm sure they'll love him.

Just slightly off topic, but did anyone on here see the incredibly fake and sensationalized kiss on MTV last night? If that doesn't prove that there is a double standard where gay male affection is concerned, then I don't know what will. Oh, and let's not forget little Miley's coming out party on SYTYCD. Wonder if their careers will suffer at all for their displays? Everybody go to ABC's comments under the article and leave your thoughts. Biggest hypocrites I've ever seen, except some of the people I used to sit next to in the pews as a child.

Did you mean Sandra Bullock? I thought that was a sweet kiss but you're right, there was double standard..definitely.

And Miley's been so strange lately. She's been....well, gay friendly all of a sudden. She said she wrote a song on her new album which she dedicated to her best friend, who's gay...

and then she changed lyrics to express love to a woman yesterday in London or something.

I don't know but I doubt they will get any backlash. Poor Adam was singled out.

I respect Adam for being who he is and not denying his sexual preference, but also would like to see more attention paid to the talented man and his music. He's very supportive of the gay community, but I don't think he wants to be put in an activist position as his primary job. He's a man of many talents who happens to be gay. The straight entertainers aren't prefaced as "the openly straight entertainer."I wish him happiness and love in his personal life, without having to always address being gay instead of his music, thoughts and interests that many care about.Gaga is great and desrved the award. Adam will receive many, hopefully the "Nobel Peace Prize" for bringing so many people all over the world to share a common love...him. funbunn40

I never got the Gaga fever until a week ago when I heard "Speechless". It was a beautiful song.

Isn't her new video coming out today?

Agree with you funbunn40...

and to me, the most ideal situation is for homosexuality to be accepted as 100% normal "whatevs"...because it is. I am not gay, have no gay children, I have a few gay relatives (that I know of) with whom I've never really had the opportunity to interact because of distance unfortunately; but from high school 'til now I've had 3 gay male friends who were 3 of the most QUALITY wonderful people I've every known in my entire life! (and not that it matters, but all 3 of them and 2 of their life partners are MORE conservative than I am, only one has a partner who anyone would consider {and I hate this word} flamboyant)... so in consideration of them, and also as just a plain and simple CITIZEN OF THIS PLANET AND HUMANITY, I think it's a worthy expectation to want for a person's identity as a quality human being to be measured on something other than sexual orientation. I kind of even hate the comments I've just written because they, again, somehow imply that being gay should be considered as special or different etc., and it shouldn't... for all gay people to live OUT, and therefor probably happier, lives is a real modern day goal for civil rights IMHO. Anyway, blah blah blah, didn't mean to go all preacy and political :)...just echoing other sentiments here that Adam just wants to be considered a musical artist on the professional front... just like Steven Speilberg is first considered a move director... etc., and I think that's great.

Adam does not lose , he has already won people's heart to those admire his talent. He's a true artist who follow his dream and manifestate his underline self. Dont you see, an award is not a matter anymore. What he need is the support from his fan , help him manifestate his dream by sharing the love he believe.

Well put 12:58.If we were all "Stepford " people , what a boring world this would be!Love the excitement and personality that Adam brings and love the honesty and goodness in him. Nothing better to look at!!! Btw, also love Gaga's "Speechless." It's hauntingly beautiful and showcases her beautiful voice. There is a video on youtube of her singing that song to photos of Adam, which is were I first heard it. funbunn40

But isn't Gaga a bit emotionless performer. I don't like Bad Romance, it sounds like an old witch singing. I prefer Britney and Fergie and maybe Gwen Stefani to these Divas.

MAN!! i was hoping Adam would win that award! owell next year!

OH funbunn40 - so well put yourself, when you say "love the...GOODNESS IN HIM". That succinctly sums up something I've been trying to put my finger on for months now... there's so much goodness in him! I don't revere him like a god or something, that would be silly, but I just admire the goodness in him. Well said right back at you (12:58 here). Well... maybe a sex god ;), but that's a whole different issue, lol.

Also, love Gaga's "Speechless" - there's a story involving "emotion" behind it actually Anon @ 1:31 - you should check it out.

Adam is an inspiration to all of us who want to just be ourselves and to live our lives honestly.Living life to the fullest is the greatest AWARD.. Thank you Adam for being such a role model

Speaking of MTV Movie Awards

Did anyone notice that when Christina Aguileia performed....She put a guy's face in her crotch and then right after that the two male dancers squeezed her boobs.....Video is on YouTube....not a word said about this.....and this is why Adam didn't apologize for his performance on the AMA show....double standard.

About the Kiss Sandra and Scarlette had..they have a long way to go to match that kiss.... Adam and Tommy had.......WOWEEEEEEEEEE

Anonymous said...

Gaga is a phenome. She is incredibly creative, and she can sing. Great voice IMO.

Nothing can match that passionate kiss between Adam and Tommy. Thank you Tommy for being so tolerant, although I'm not sure he had much of a choice! And the boys continue their sensuous flirtations in GlamNation. Interesting that guys have always been turned on by females sexually interacting, but women have never really been exposed to explicite male interaction. I find it a total turn-on and never thought I would.

Anonymous said...

No problem with this at all. Lady GaGa deserved it, plain and simple. Adam is getting and will continue to get his share of accolades as his music career unfolds.

Anonymous said...

Gaga deserving.

To Anon @ 3pm June 7th - I know riigghhht, total turn on (Lambert's sexiness is just criminal too, and that helps :)!).

To Anon @ 2:29 June 7th - regarding Christina's performance - yeah, I'm just starting to see this on the blogosphere. Part of me wants it to blow up in the blogosphere and Twitterverse such that maybe it makes mainstream entertainment news (or regular news even) and part of me doesn't cuz when considering Lambert's feelings, there's probably no desire to revisit it... but man, either way, it ticks me off! (and on a lighter note, holy frick I thought the AMA performance was HOT, lol. And it did have a cultural throwback reference that never got pointed out but was actually interesting).

Anonymous said...

I am female and that whole AMA was a turn on for me too....Adam is just so friggin HOT...It's just the whole package..his voice..looks..he's so emotional.....
that FYE video is HOT TOO...

I agree with some of you. But Adam should have won this one. If he is NOT supported buy his own community, it's NOT right in my book. Gaga is talented but since Adam is a NEW artist and could use all the support he can get, especially for the Gay community, he SHOULD have WON.
Adam NEEDS this one MORE then GAGA>

But, He is MY NUMBER ONE!!!!!

i don't get GAGA, i never did. i agree with anon 4:20 above, it is sad that the gay community does not support their own kind especially with a rare talent like adam. i would not like adam to be a gay activist, i prefer him to continually entertain all his fans by giving them spectacular shows and his beautiful music. adam, now you know who your friends are.

Anonymous said...

I love the way Adam lives his life. That is how he is an advocate to the gay community. He promotes love and acceptance. Yes, to an earlier poster he has entertained just gay clubs. The G-A-Y Club in the UK, the Gay/Lesbian Mardi Gras in Australia, one of the GLAAD Awards shows recently. There are more but I don't remember all of them.

I actually am glad that Adam did not win this award. He is not "The Gay Singer" who deserves the votes of all gays. He is a tremendous singer and entertainer who just happens to be gay. Gaga is huge worldwide and certainly deserves this for her originality and pushing the envelope in every way.

If Adam lost to Gaga, I'm not mad. I love Gaga. (not as much as I love Adam tho)

If there was an AWARD for just BEING WHO YOU ARE & LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST ... ADAM would WIN hands down ... no competition. ADAM brings MORE sunshine & joy into my life everyday just by BEING here in this world for me to FOLLOW. His music makes me so HAPPY that if I CAN'T listen to ADAM sing everyday ... I start to go through WITHDRAWAL just like a drug. THAT ... my friends ... has NEVER happened to me before! Gotta have my daily ADAM fix! (LoL)

^ Exactly - totallly agree!! That's why i've been signing all my posts "Adam Fix". Gotta have it! Every day!!

Gaga is a REAL ally of the gay community. It was reported that ALEJANDRO the video has so much homoerotic themes and gay men kissing eachother. The reason why it was postponed so many times was because the producers want to edit out the homoerotic themes. But GAGA insisted on saying NO to the censorship. She fights for the gay community all the time. That's why I respect her. Even though I'm straight, I feel that Gaga is HUGE aly of the gay community.

That's why Adam loves her too. He knows.

So why a gay icon is always a woman? I think any gay man can be with a woman, but they are more strict on what the woman is like, right? I heard this from a gay man. It can be the womans looks or maybe personality they are very strict about. It could be the Kesha, Mischa, Scarlett look for example..

Anonymous said...

Folks - an uber Lambert fan here - but Gaga has done a lot for the gay community - won't list it all out here, but you should research it if you find a couple minutes of spare time someday, she's deserving IMHO.

Also, to "Adam Fix" and "Anon @8:30" - on the whole "Adam is like my drug" thing - I hear 'ya :). You guys should check out Adam's friend Ferras' song "Rush" w/ a montage featuring Adam on You Tube - you'll see what I mean! I actually downloaded Ferras' cd "Aliens & Rainbows" a few weeks ago - so gorgeous!! Really great, check it out.

It's 6:31 June 8th here again - you know what else I was thinking, 6:07 & 8:30 have really good points... and similarly, I actually would not like to see Adam asked by press about this (the award, had he won) for the next 2/3 weeks of his tour! He's finally getting asked some questions about his music and his Tour, and I would hate to see Press that is granted access to him currently for the purpose of promoting his tour start asking him about this!!

Sometime in the last 4-6 months, I read some article or something where the author called Lambert the "accidental pioneer", or something very close to that - and I thought it was perfect! I think it's fine, totally absolutely 100% fine, that Lambert does not want to be an "activist", why should he, but he spoken previously about embracing this notion of being an "accidental pioneer" just by living his life the way he does, and I think that's great; what more could we want from him?!

Honestly, this peeves me, and seriously, nothing against Gaga, who is following in Madonna's stilettos in supporting gay rights. It's just that Adam, by his very existence, deserves more support from the gay community, and at least some seem to be more interested in snarking about him then applauding. The Out editor's finger shaking open letter to Adam reflects this attitude, as apparently Adam is also supposed to repeal measure 8 along with establishing a singing career. I am not saying you be a fan of Adam's just because you are gay, but the queer community seems to ignoring what REAL progress Adam's celebrity signifies.

Little 'tween girls lining up to meet him and squeeing over him and NOT CARING HE'S GAY is kind of a big deal in my book.

Sorry for the cranky post, but I've been mad about this for some time.

Anonymous said...

Adam being open about his preference and carrying himself without shame should be applauded by the gay community even if they're not into his music...

but no, they would rather ogle at hot straight celebrities (some in the closet) and openly mock one of their own forgetting that he puts up with alot for them and others after him

It's sad

It is all about his music and talent...not about the rest of his life and that is what he is trying to tell everyone...let him be himself and enjoy the wonderful talent.

Gaga is good, but Adam has all the chrisma and so full of life. Let's forget about comparing and enjoy which ever you like...I have decided after American Idol and him coming in second I do not pay any attention to polls or contests.

He hit the ground running and not looking back and I am going to run right along beside of him cheering all the way. I know it is important to them to be winners, but that is one thing he does not have to worry about. HE IS A WINNER!
